I live east of the Portland area, and virtually nearly everything that I have seen in this video I have experienced for myself. I am so proud that I live here, even though I am still reluctant to encourage people to visit Portland at this time (I think that things are getting a little better now). Interesting fact: in all intents and purposes, the Lewis and Clark Expedition were the first people of European descent to discover Mt. Adams, but they confused it with Mt. St. Helens, which was already discovered and named by Captain Vancouver, when he saw it from the mouth of the Columbia River. Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams are pretty much at the same longitude but 30 miles away, and the Lewis and Clark Expedition would have easily confused it with Mt. Adams. It was left off of the maps that they brought back for that reason. It was not until the 1830's when more white explorers and settlers came to the area that it was named Mt. Adams after John Quincy Adams, who was President of the US at the time. On the return trip up river, William Clark and some of the expedition went several miles up the Wilamette River to Willamette Falls, in present day Oregon City, Oregon. Supposedly, they went to the top of the hill and saw another snow-capped peak farther south, and named it Mt. Jefferson, after Thomas Jefferson. It is the only major peak in the Cascade Range that the expedition named. Thank you again for another wonderful video and Merry Christmas!! Greetings from Clark County, Washington, just below the Columbia River Gorge!! :)

Mornin' Robert! I've driven The Gorge several times, it's great to re-visit it with you. Watching these episodes takes a long time because I'm constantly pausing to check out the locations on Google Maps. Too bad you couldn't make it to Palouse Falls, it's really spectacular. It may seem odd, but seeing Herman The Sturgeon is the highlight of this episode for me. He's been a "bucket list fish" of mine for years if you can believe it. Until Friday's chat, happy trails!

Very Nice! I somehow always feel elevated to a different level after watching your videos on Sunday morning. I especially enjoyed this video since it covers Oregon. It's the one contiguous state west of the Mississippi that I have not visited. It was also very nice to see the Joso trestle at the beginning of the video. Since you've mentioned you are a bit of a railfan, I'd like to mention the "Railfan Dan" RU-vid channel. He does some amazing drone videography (Is that even a word?) of trains in the Northwest. I loved the series. Thanks again for your work.

We traveled that area a few times and love the spots you visited. The wind is always terrific. The last visit we stayed in a hotel in Hood River with river view of Bingen. (Next time we will be in Bingen in our Airstream.) We left for Mt. Hood and found ourselves in a sudden snowstorm and had to make a quick exit. We aren’t destined to see it in good weather as you did. Thanks for your beautiful video!

Another great video! An interesting fact about the bridge at Lyons Ferry. It was relocated from Vantage, WA when the new bridge which carries I-90 over the Columbia River was built. On my second visit to the Lewiston-Clarkston area I headed west to Portland and went over pretty much the same route as you until the Tri Cities, Washington area. You headed south and I went north towards I-82 and then south towards I-84. I need to do Hwy 14 on the Washington side again soon! I did the Oregon side up to the Bonneville Dam a few years ago. Definitely need to revisit that area again! When you drove into Portland you should have stayed on the Washington side until closer to Portland where you could crossed the Columbia on a free bridge! Loved seeing Deschutes Brewing in Portland again. Another place I need to check out again soon! Looking forward to the finale. I know it will be a lot of places I have visited in the past.
