in Peter's defense, asking Doom was SUPER worth trying. He would _absolutely_ save the ailing elderly aunt of one of his nemeses just so he could lord it over him every time after that. Hell he'd do it purely because Richards said he can't. He'd hook Aunt May up with like, life-prolonging cyborg enhancements that would keep her going long after the sun goes supernova.

I kinda wish there was a scene where Deadpool pulls Peter aside and say 'Pete look, your aunt is going to die but give it a year, five tops and then the writers will find some way to bring her back, this is something that happens to every superhero.'

The dumbest part is that half the people that Peter asked for help absolutely could have saved aunt may. Dr. Strange prances around coma wards healing coma patients and curing brain damage all the time, The Fantastic Four have a literal time machine , The list goes on and on. But for plot reasons everybody just decided they didn't want to.

Also, in the real world, A doctor does not just go "Welp, sucks for you" if you don't have insurance. They WILL treat you and do whatever is needed to save your life. You will just be in MASSIVE debt after you're discharged.

The thing is Doctor Doom has absolutely dropped everything to save the life of his sworn enemies loved ones, because it feeds his sense of superiority, since his whole thing is that he genuinely believes that he's morally right in everything he does, so asking Doctor Doom makes total sense especially if Reed said he couldn't help since one upping Reed is like crack to him. But yeah this comic arc was and still is trash.

"What would you do if you open a window Batman called you fat?" I don't think you gave yourself enough credit with this one. Seriously. Think about it. Just imagine you're just minding your own business in your house, the one place you're comfortable with your life. You get up to open the window and, out of nowhere, Batman of all people not only shows up, but takes a look at your disgusting, greasy, haven't-taken-a-shower-today body and absolutely *has* to tell you that you are fat. Like, he can't just keep it in. He's on the job, he's busy. He's not even in Gotham. He's just in Nowhere, Kansas. He's that far away and you are so repulsive that Batman himself has to drop everything He's doing *just* to tell you that you're fat. Can you even imagine?

This entire fiasco was orchestrated by none other than Mephisto himself to dwell in the pain and suffering of Spider-Man fans.

The main reason this storyline pisses me off so much, is because it is played off like Peter is being heroic by sacrificing his marriage to save Aunt May, when in reality, he just couldn't deal with the guilt of feeling responsible for Aunt May's death. That's why he was so obsessed with her having a "natural," death. So, the way I see it, Peter was willing to retcon his entire relationship with Mary Jane just so he wouldn't have to feel guilty about Aunt May's death. It's so infuriating, especially given that it wasn't actually Peter's fault to begin with. Plus, though I don't know much about comics, I'm pretty confident that Aunt May wouldn't have wanted Peter to sacrifice his marriage just to let her live another 5 years. This whole storyline is a tragedy

I think the most ridiculous feature of this whole situation is that Spiderman approached all these absurdly powerful people and *none* of them had a solution for this; the literal wizards just shrugged and said "nah, can't do it", even though Marvel heroes get revived on a monthly basis

I like how the comic that says "If you have to read but one comic this decade, this is the one!" requires you to *read another comic* to get the full context to a panel.

I think the worst part is there was ALREADY a plot about Peter accepting aunt may's death before this and the takeaway was "at least I have MJ" Fucked up

This whole storyline exists specifically to reset the character development Peter had at this point in time because he was married and some idiots didn't like that

Let's not also forget that right before all that happened, Peter met LITERAL GOD who told him accept it in Sensational Spider-man #40. Also Doom would've totally helped just to spite the fact that Richards couldn't save a single old womans life.

talking about spidermans punch: in the comic where doc oc takes over spidermans body, it is revealed that spiderman has been pulling his punches all the time, and is actually a lot stronger than we have ever seen. dude could obliterate someone in a single punch, so him going hand to hand with a fully armored iron man is pretty possible

While this was written by J. Michael Straczsynski, the whole premise was written up by then-editor Joe Quesada (the artist of this book and one of the "Marvel greats"), who never liked the idea of Peter and Mary Jane married and sought to make Peter a down-on-his-luck loser again at the cost of decades of character development and any kind of logic. J. Michael for his part is actually a very good writer but has a few stinkers on his belt, with One More Day being at the top of his most infamous stories ever penned--a story that was mostly Quesada's idea.

So what if he didn't have a daughter? He got to ride his bike to Harry Osborne's "tomorrow is today now" party.

this is why the new trend of making uncle ben and aunt may closer to peters parents age really makes alot more sense; it makes the death of uncle ben alot more tragic as he had more years left in his life to live that were taken from him, and it also makes the prospect of aunt may being in danger more suspenseful as she has more years to live.

Ya know, honestly, I can think of an immediate way to make this story better: Have it be Mary Jane who gets shot. He's about to lose her, and then, the Devil shows up and offers him the ultimate sadistic choice: Save Mary Jane's life, at the cost of losing their relationship, and even his memory of it forever, or turn down the deal, keeping his memories, but losing her forever? Ya know, an actual moral dilemma, a hard moral choice, instead of Peter selling his marriage to save his aunt who's gonna be dead in a year anyway. And now, Peter choosing to give up their marriage could be read as a moment of actual self-sacrifice.

You should've included in the intro "One More Day is even worse than that comic where Norman Osborn tells Peter Parker he plowed Gwen Stacey before he could" because at least that comic isn't canon.

Mephisto was like the most reasonable person in this story. And he was a satanic asshole. At least his motivations made complete sense and he was basically picking on people who were being super shortsighted and selfish. lol

I mean, Mephisto never specified they could never meet again nor just get married again, it was just that they would never remember anything from their marriage. They would've still loved each other right until that moment they got married, so there's literally nothing stopping him from doing that *and* saving Aunt May.

to be fair, canonically, Peter IS one of the strongest supers in Marvel. No, seriously. Punching Iron Man is not out of the question.

It's even more stupid when you remember that the afterlife is a confirmed thing in this universe. Hell, *multiple* afterlives, many of them being significantly better than Earth are a thing. Why would anyone who lived a good life and knew this give a shit about death beyond not being able to finish their Earthly business?

Tony respects Aunt May, a person he barely has any relation to or conversations with but does not respect her enough to give her any money to try and help her whats so ever. I feel functionally brain dead thinking about the logic in this book

Also, a common misconception is that the little girl would have been Mayday Parker, but she died as a baby in the ASM comics. The Renew Your Vows comics shows that it was actually Annie May Parker, as May is dead there, OMD never happened, and upon meeting Mayday Parker MJ is reduced to tears, seeing the daughter that they lost. But for some reason, in that comic, Peter... isn't.

This was literally just an excuse to break up Peter and MJ because someone felt their relationship was getting stale...

You know damn well that he’s wearing glasses cause he’s high as shit right now. He still manages to make the actual plot line sound 100x better. This is my fourth time watching this and it’s just as funny.

You know who was behind this? Joe Quesada. And he's gone to bat to defend it multiple times, saying that Spider-Man should bea swinging single the way he was when Joe Quesada was a child and people who want Spider-Man to be an adult married man want him to die. One More Day is an example of editors having too much power because Joe Quesada was chief editor and told the writers what they had to do every step of the way and they had to just work with his terrible ideas.

Author probably was the kid in school that never done his homework and when the teacher asked "why disnt you finish your homework" he probably said"my aunt was dying".

The "read this comic to find out what happened" is better used for things that happened before like "Hey I fought this guy before" "*Read Spiderman #34*"

As crap as the whole is, I do actually love Strange's speech: "I have lost many of those I loved ...And when I think back on them, I do not regret that I loved them, only that, in so many cases, I was not there to do what is perhaps the most important thing of all. I was not there to say goodbye". It, and the fact Peter went to Doom for help (Who would 100% help just to spite Richards *and* lord it over Peter), are the only silver linings in this mess.

I don't know if "One more day" is still the worst thing in Spider-man anymore. I mean, the writers of the comics have continued to keep Peter and Mary-Jane separate, and have cucked Peter by having her marry someone else, and have a kid with him. Meanwhile, Peter is still trying to get Mary-Jane back, and the rest of his life has completely fallen apart. I'm pretty sure that the writers of these comics hate Spider-man like they hate actual spiders, and are punishing him for it.

This comic is dumb as hell on all levels except two. 1) Dr Strange, other than leaving Peter alone with the Time Hands, actually feels like he's trying to get the message through to Peter than May is going to god damn die, and that's how life works, and that he needs to accept that. Hell, even MJ has a spark of that during the last day. and 2) God damn, Mephisto, and the way he's drawn is so fucking delightful. That panel where the daughter ceases to be and is replaced with him with that big smug grin is just the fucking best. Mephisto being a piece of shit and Doctor Strange trying to be as blunt as possible are the only great parts of this trashfire arc.

It should have ended with Ant Man crawling up Aunt May’s nose and then she just explodes, showering Peter in gore as Ant Man expands to normal size.

To explain why peter punched iron man, it's actually canon to the comics that peter NEVER goes all out against anyone. And he's actually one of the top marvel characters in physical strength. Not like Thor or Hulk, but he's definitely strong enough that if he didn't hold back he would put dents in iron man's suits with a single punch. This isn't just a hypothesis btw, it's shown in the comics that when he goes all out he can straight up rip most people apart. Even beefcakes like kingpin he beat to a bloody pulp without much effort.

I remember I was reading the comic about Spider-man becoming a high school teacher; I mixed it up with this one while I was halfway through it and got super confused on how Spider-man went from battling his old high school friend to moving into Stark Tower with Aunt May and Mary Jane. Glad to know that strange plot line was only a byproduct of my inability to read, I'm gonna go finish that comic now.

Fun fact: to really emphasize how big of a loser nerd-Peter was, he was shown reading Atlas Shrugged

Joe Quesada the penciler is also the chief editor of Spider-Man. It was his decision to force this story on the title. The writer wanted Aunt May to die and motivate Peter to move on and evolve before getting Dr Strange to mind wipe the Earth to forget his secret identity

It definitely would have been a far, far more powerful message for Peter to realize that 50 or so years with Mary Jane will be worth more than, at best, 10 years with Aunt May. It'll hurt to say goodbye, and it'll never quite stop hurting, but he has to move on. He knew this day was coming sometime soon, whether it was a bullet or cancer or a heart attack. It'd be a message that everyone can relate to-once you reach a certain age, everyone has had someone close to them die, and been forced to life on without them. Instead, we have Peter making pretty much the most selfish decision he could possibly make and gaining almost nothing for it-certainly nothing worth the price.

It utterly saddens me that J. Michael Straczynski (head writer of the early seasons of the spectacular animated GhostBusters cartoon) co-wrote this.

To be fair about the fake name and nobody else at the hospital recognizing Peter part, it makes sense that only a doctor would recognize him since I'd expect medical authorities to need to remember particular faces on a record. Most people wouldn't expect to see a celebrity superhero having trouble with hospital bills and Peter has historically had a fairly nondescript appearance. If Peter put on some glasses like Clark Kent, you'd be surprised how well that can actually work for a good while. Celebrities do it practically all the time, even Henry Cavill walked around Times Square with no one recognizing him. Everything else about the comic is absolute garbage, though.

Remember: this whole comic series was made to drive home the fact that Peter is literally not allowed to be happy or have children. That's literally one of the bullet points to making movies and comics for him.

It still baffles me how the higher-ups at Marvel (including then Editor-in-Chief Jose Quesadilla) unironically thought the Spider-fans were going to lap up the new (old?) post-OMD status quo.
