I agree whole heartedly while I'm not super into well super hero comics. They dont really gotta be a competition one of my favorite comics publishers, Dark Horse Comics, famous for stuff like Hellboy and The Umbrella Academy, also regularly localizes and puts out some banger manga too like berserk, or mob psycho 100. Which is something i never see folks bring up for some reason lol.
There's a lot of anime elitists in the comments. As someone who recently got into anime, BOTH are good in their own way. Plus there's MORE THAN MARVEL AND DC.
I think the thing that turns me off most from most manga is certain humor or tropes, most notably the pervert tropes and how they portray female characters. I used to love Doraemon but hated it whenever Shizuka got sexually harassed. Same goes for One Piece, over time the female characters had less prominent roles and just became grossly over proportioned eye candy while the writing deteriorated and pacing got worse. Also the general trend how some fight based Japanese comics rely more on linear power scaling and simply "training" to get stronger (sometimes it being a complete asspull) rather than using your head. I really liked the Disney XD Dub of Doraemon because it toned down a lot of weird pervert stuff from the original, though the current Doraemon 2005 series in Japan also toned it down from the comics (though not entirely sadly). Additionally, seeing One Piece Live Action on Netflix was a breath of fresh air as it was nice to see Nami do something again other than how post timeskip she is just a walking pair of boobs who gets some fights cause she got Zeus from Big Mom (rather than ya know, honing her own clima tact and natural abilities). I'd get more into Chainsaw Man but it looks too unhinged for me to continue (didn't a recent chapter Denji get jerked off for 20 pages straight). Marvel Comics currently is having a complete identity crisis with its characters with many writers who just don't care about the characters. Krakoa era the X-Men became unrepentant killers (even moreso than the last decade) and Professor X straight up made a dude kill himself. I don't like how so many superheroes at Marvel have just become quip machines or morally bankrupt spiteful jackasses if not both. Also abysmal pacing is something I dislike. One Piece now has 150+ chapter arcs for example. Egghead has been dragging on for far too long with too many cliffhangers. X-Men books in the modern age spin off into 9 concurrent titles which is insane. Back in the day One Piece had like 7-20 chapter arcs and X-Men used to have whole arcs that were as short as 3 issues.

Yeah I think reading comics from just the run helped me better. All the #1 within like 2 years was confusing for me at first though. Plus a lot more comics like invincible, spawn, savage dragon start at issue #1
It's always a good idea to start where a run starts. Makes it way less confusing and a lot more enjoyable because they usually explain the important stuff that has already happened.
@@niceguykaizI do think it might help to have a “season” for books like say there’s a new Thor issue #1 but it’s the 7th #1 so it would be labeled Thor season 7 issue 1. But then if you have the mighty Thor that would be it’s own until there is a second book title that so it would be the mighty Thor season 2
Manga are comics. The debate is based on quality of content and right now American comics are a dumpster fire. You should check out some European books and see how they make CURRENT American comics look like bad indigenstion and a passing fart. Love the characters, but can't help who writes and draws them.
I agree that there are a lot of bad comics, but 70% of manga is also dogshit filler. Don't pretend that there are only good manga, but not comics. There are still good comics, and still bad manga. Trust me, I've read a lot of bad comics and manga
Of course there is bad manga, I don't know about 70% but by and large Mangaka are producing better comics than Marvel and DC currently. Times and trends change, I imagine American comics will rebound when more people start making their own for lack of good content which is what is happening now.@@niceguykaiz
Except Manga existed centuries before comics and arent comics, while comics have multiple issues, and characters bounce from writer to writer and dont ever seem to end while taking years to compl a single event or storyline Mangas are usually drawn and written by one person and always end, and instead of having to sift through issues manga are released in volumes with complete arcs that end within a few years, Manga and comic debate is far from stupid, ive been wanting to get into comics all these reasons made me give up, i was easily able to get into manga. Plus American comics are going through this terrible Leftist gender ideology pandering crap, DC has put out nothing good and all they release are batman issues which even that is getting old, Manga depending on the author delivers captivating and creative storytelling with elements of fantasy type magic systems and character development expanded outside the superhero genre, Along with actual enjoyable and exciting characters. Plus Japan and their manga publishers are always looking for the next thing, if it’s popular enough it continues and can even get an anime adaptation, if not it’s dropped, here they insist on gender swapping, race swapping characters, constant reboots, and tie in multi versal events with characters who never die or stay dead long, hiring bad writers while not seeking out young creative story tellers, if Japan had this same mindset we wouldn’t have stuff like Hunter x Hunter, Attack on Titan, Demon slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Wild Strawberry, Tokyo Ghoul, Bleach, Naruto, Death note, Monster, and other manga written by authors who were given a chance by many different manga publishers in japan, comics and manga industry are night and day in practice, sure they’re bad manga and comics and good manga and comics but what makes each of them Good and bad are not the same at all.

Just out of pure curiosity, I don’t know if you’ve ever talked about this kind of topic on your channel before, but if for some reason, somehow someway manga and comics got along and decide to do a crossover what would be the best or most fun crossover to happen, Dragon Ball and Superman, MHA and X-Men, JoJo’s and ghost rider, chainsaw man and Hellboy anything on the table. Probably Mob Psycho and Spider-Man. The comedy style between the two is really similar, and I think Peter would have a blast hanging out with Reigen and Mob

Manga have been better than comics in the 80s , or 90s or 2000s. It's not a new thing But the more recent global popularity of manga has created this new trend..even though it's not really new. Manga has always been a more superior form overall. Comics were always limited and restricted
While I have definitely read more manga than comics (I don't really think I've read a comic fully at all outside of browsing a few pages at my library or something) and I think manga is a little easier to get into, the notion that one is better than the other is fucking absurd. And while I've looked at and liked way more manga and anime related content, I utterly hate when people treat it like there can be nothing wrong with it. I'm sorry, but COME ON MAN. You can't tell me that the Shonen genre isn't just Japanese superheroes, and, I'm sorry, but while I do like a fair bit of Shonen (Dragon Ball and Chainsaw Man come into mind), I do not think I like them all that better compared to superheroes of the West. I'm gonna be honest chief I prefer most of West's Superheroes over most of Japan's by a landslide, because while I haven't read a comic, I've seen a lot of their adaptations and holy shit, are a lot of them good. Because yes, while I like Iron Man and Goku, I prefer a Captain America over a Deku any day. Like, I'm sorry, but in the West I've got hitters like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Spiderman etc. These guys have different genres of stories they can tackle but Shonen is just largely the same formula where we have a dumb as bricks protagonist getting powers and fighting villains. Yes, Comics may not have as much variety as Manga and there isn't as consistent a starting to ending point, but if you think Anime/Manga beats everything Comics has then you have a clear bias, and likewise it is the same for those on the other side. I just don't know why people can't get along. I've been a fan of superheroes since I was a kid and a reason why I got into Anime and Manga in the first place is because I saw Dragon Ball and went "Oh shit, this Goku guy's kinda like a superhero!". There is a fuckton of overlap between the two yet people act like there is a giant ass division when realistically they're not even that different. And half the people who say one is better than the other either has not read a Comic and/or Manga or watched it's subsequent adaptions (which is how I'm exposed to most Comic Book an Anime/Manga related media). Both also have a fair share of problems, but saying one is better than the other while completely ignoring the problems of your preferred medium is not the way to go chief. One is allowed to prefer one medium over another but don't just dismiss it's problems like it doesn't exist.

I don't understand the argument for Manga and Comics because they're just THE SAME FUCKING THING. Like, it's not like one hardware is running better than the other for two different consoles, it's literally just a bunch of different stories from different countries. You might get a Manga that's very much like a Comic and you might get a Comic that's very much like a Manga. Either way, both are still stories. Comparing them doesn't work because of the fact that stories have the potential to be literally anything from any country.
big difference between a superhero and a hero. Manga are more consistent than comics as well. That's why manga character's are better for debates. Hell, even anime is better than comic books animated shows and movies.

Manga is more consistent which is why I do prefer reading them, however that doesn't make all of manga better than comic books. I have no doubt that there are comic book runs that are better than some manga. Also, every anime being better than some comic book movies or animated shows are a blatant lie. I'm sorry, as much as I love anime, did we ever get an Avengers: Endgame from it? On the animated side of Comic Book adaptations, we have Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes, Spiderverse, or some of the animated Justice League shows. Yes, Manga/Anime is more consistent and consumer friendly whereas Comic Books are more prone to have their adaptations do the heavy lifting for them, but that's not always a bad thing. Especially since creating new continuities can create new takes on beloved characters and universes. Why can't we have both? While I would love to have a Marvel or DC adaptation that would focus on bringing the Comic Book stories to life in the same vein an Anime does for it's Manga, lord knows would I want something like Dragon Ball to get a new adaptation that gives us fresh takes on the characters and stories that, in all honesty, haven't been as good as they were back then.
People tend to forget... superheros are just ONE OF THE sectors of manga as a Whole ..I bet you never heard of Seinen Manga...maybe reading 2-3 of them might help you understand why manga's win by a landslide
