Sarif was right about one thing. It's in our nature to want to rise above our limits. Think about it. We were cold, so we harnessed fire. We were weak, so we invented tools. Every time we met an obstacle, we used creativity and ingenuity to overcome it. The cycle is inevitable... but will the outcome always be good? I guess that will depend on how we approach it. These past few months, I was challenged many times, but more often than not, didn't I try to keep morality in mind, knowing that my actions didn't have to harm others? Time and time again, didn't I resist the urge to abuse power and resources simply to achieve my goals more swiftly? In the past, we've had to compensate for weaknesses, finding quick solutions that only benefit a few. But what if we never need to feel weak or morally conflicted again? What if the path Sarif wants us to take enables us to hold on to higher values with more stability? One thing is obvious. For the first time in history, we have a chance to steal fire from the gods. To turn away from it now - to stop pursing a future in which technology and biology combine, leading to the promise of a Singularity - would mean to deny the very essence of who we are. No doubt the road to get there will be bumpy, hurting some people along the way. But won't achieving the dream be worth it? We can become the gods we've always been striving to be. We might as well get good at it. - Deus Ex Human Revolution
It's not a matter of being afraid of AI, yet rather having the intelligence to not just blindly consume whatever the power elite starts promoting without understanding the facts and consequences. The repercussions of integrating AI into the human bio-protoform is surly a fatal blow to humanities consciousness though
+Blair Darby - Ray Kurzweil has already gloated about the fact that humanity's collective consciousness will be uploaded to a "cloud," and the elite will have full access to it. They will essentially have full access of our minds. They are demonic psychopaths and the LAST group I would want to have access to the contents and directives of my brain. They are planning to make us a hive-mind. Check out this website that talks about uploading human minds in a database as an internet-interface, like the one in the Matrix movie. They'll sell this idea by telling us it will provide immortality: www * 2045 * com
You got that right. I'm pretty savvy as to what's happening here and have just started to write a book regarding the hive mind controllable aspects and interfacing issues. Seems like David Ickes lastest work is on this topic and very good.....
I think you have to jump out of your perspective and trying to look at the fact they are soon arrive to a decision between robots and humans. They have created their own civilisation already. Question here more likely how long are they going to keep us alive and replace humanity with robots. They would only win... no more government problem and less manageable problems they will have in their life.
lakecrab I want a fully robotic body with the maximum amount of biologic parts left is my brain (if I can't get the mind uploading I want). So I guess we have different extents we wish to go to in transhumanism.

+Gurubashy We have already merged with the internet and we merge with each others minds as a byproduct also. We will merge with AI just the same. It will be like another app on our smart phones. I can't wait! Movies are humanities way of projecting their fears.... playing it out in order to face their fears; overcome them... sadly it just perpetuates those fears in most cases. oh and yes EA sucks big time; I boycott them as much as possible.
Or maybe some people are afraid of AI because they have enough knowledge about it they know there is something to be afraid of. There are a lot of people developing and advancing this technology who know this and want to slow down the progress a little until things can be analyzed more and outcomes and long terms effects are better understood. Then there are people who either aren't looking at the big picture, basically refusing to see the negative side of this technology or are seeing it and are just ignoring them. It is because of those people that I have many concerns. I am not afraid of AI itself, I am afraid of the radical ideas and concepts those people are planning to use it for. When AI starts "thinking" of humans as useless beings there will be problems. The level of intelligence between AI and humans is going to be significant. We will have to have a Neurolink implant shot through our skull into our brain so we can "plug in" to the internet so we can keep up. Once this what it means to be human will change forever. That is a concern for me and I would have thought it would have been for every human being alive, but I guess not. Once these changes happen, there is no going back, so why not proceed with a little caution.
if you think about it, humans have advanced at such a rapid pace. almost 12,000 years ago we built our first temple, 50 years after our first flight we made it to space. I believe that humans can achieve nearly anything if we put our mind to it
What I personally am more concerned about is how intrusive modern technology has become on everyday life. With all of our smartphones, I-Pods, laptops, and other electronics I can't help but feel that the current progression that our society has taken inhibits social interaction and the forming of healthy human relationships. I live in a house where the kids are almost always more focused on the Internet or TV than what's going on around them, and I feel that what's more important above all else is developing technology in a way that allows live to become easier and more able to access human potential while simultaneously allowing for greater social interaction and a much quieter, less intrusive civilization, somewhat like it was in the early 20th century, except with all the benefits of modern medicine and transportation, among other things. I wonder if the transhuman revolution will be able to successfully resolve these issues?
"From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine. Your kind cling to your flesh, as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass that you call a temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortal… ...even in death I serve the Omnissiah." - Magos Dominus Faustinius, The Adeptus Mechanicus

I will continue living in our Technological society, enjoying the constantly advancing benefits of Technology. I absolutely despise hypocritical luddites like you. I think it would be amazing to be able to replace body parts that aren’t functioning or are rotting from age. I use the idea of losing 1/3rd of my life to sleep and another 1/2 to work as a motivator to try to accomplish as much as I can, and if I was suddenly able to extend that lifespan through technological body parts I could experience so much more, and the same would go for everyone who agrees with the process

Daniel 2:40-43 "And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay."
+Benedict Hebie yes! entwining our minds with technology will increase our empathy where religions have enforced excessive individualism which has removed empathy and tribalism.
We should postpone the creation of Strong Artificial Intelligence until we make ourselves as intelligent as we fear it will be. That is truly the safest way for mankind to tame this behemoth. But of course if we do go this wiser route, it won't be such a behemoth anymore.
doodelay That is a very good idea actually. But how can you be sure it won't emerge on its own from the vastness of the internet, just as we emerged from that primordial soup?
Shuriken Nexus 6 Can't be sure, but its best to stop intentionally trying to construct AI robotics for the next few decades. If the internet wakes up then there's nothing we can do. But we can certainly make sure that robotics stays inanimate by postponing its creation.
+doodelay Why stop it? The future is theirs, not ours. Humans aren't the end of the road, and only humans are vain enough to try to hinder whats better than them. Humans needs to get surpassed as fast as possible, as we are destroying ourselves anyway. Don't let lesser morality hinder the superior.
***** I'm not arguing from a human standpoint, rather an objective one. You and me want to delay AI, but why? Human survival? For what? It may sound psychotic but I'm trying to convey that if humans even have a purpuse, it's likley to create something better than them. The only reason we have to stop AI is human vanity. That is, for a lack of a better word, typical human. Do you really think that humanity's fear of being surpassed is reason enough to hinder anything superior? It's a primitive and barbaric state of mind.
A new, beautiful age for humanity is coming. Those who deny such benefits have the freedom to do so, for all have the right to their own culture and belief system. However, those who accept it will become equal to, or perhaps stronger than the fictional Gods of ancient human myth. Humanity is part of nature. Humanity makes technology. Therefore, technology is part of nature too.
Der Kommentator Of course, we must remember that technology does damage nature, and that we need to find more eco-friendly forms of tech. in order to evolve further.
"A new, beautiful age for humanity is coming". Maybe. But, if we are going to speculate, try to accomodate this conclusion with other concepts such as some of the logical implications of the Fermi Paradox or creating General Artificial Inteligences (just to name a few). "Those who deny such benefits have the freedom to do so, for all have the right to their own culture and belief system". Well, just think of what happenend to hunter-gatherers when early agricultural societies started to develop. Techological progress is not always that inclusive. "However, those who accept it will become equal to, or perhaps stronger than the fictional Gods of ancient human myth". Again, maybe. But, then again, think of your first sentence. If that comes to be the case, these "whatever-you-want-to-call-them" will be as different from humans as we are from ants, so not human at all. How's this propaganda exactly? It's a presentation of what transhumanism stands and strives for. Or do you expect a 15 min video to present a discussion about ethical issues from different points of view? Nikola Danaylov's youtube channel and Adam Ford's youtube channel are excellent sources if you are interested in actually learning what transhumanism is, with the upsides & the downsides.
Alexandru Tudor Yeah, heavy shit like amputated people who are now beginning to get functional cybernetic legs and arms. What a nightmare, those transhumanist bastards.
His presentation is simply overly coy and optimistic : He does understate the "weaponization" tendencies of humans as well as the many evolutionary pitfalls and ethical traps his coy train of thought leads to.
+Olivier Mosimann Weaponization increases the speed of research and development in the technologies being weaponized, and thus is in my view a good thing. Nuclear energy was developed as a byproduct of nuclear weapons, computers were developed as a byproduct of WW2 code-breaker machines and the first exoskeletons and direct neural interfaces are being developed by DARPA. Every technology has had pros and cons, but the positive effects have been greater every time, each step bringing greater benefits.
Many people see implanting memories as a negative but think of being able to upload mathematical knowledge or training which then just has to be applied and practiced to perfect rather than starting from the ground up
all the child would have to do once the neural network has been established is spend time practicing it to learn how to fully understand it and apply it, it would be a revolution in every sense as we would speed up the transmission of knowledge as well as stopping misinformation and misunderstanding while improving the prowess of future generations
Immediate jump to the absolute negative, universities will still be a thing and just because you know something does not mean you do not have to practice and perfect to go beyond the theory,
Revelation 9:6 During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them. So there's a few problems here: (TL;DR at bottom) Technology is driven by potential for market growth and by market demand, whether consumer, government, or whatever. Are people, corporations, or governments going to even want all this stuff given how invasive some of them seem and how much hate there is towards "unnatural" things in many societies? (I understand there will be a lot of demand for some things, especially health related.) Will it be economically feasible to create it? All of this stuff is going to consume a lot of resources, economically and physically. Is it really possible to fit every human with robotic limbs, or brain implants? Many aspects of transhumanism seem trivial while other parts of it seem impossibly sci-fi-esque and many areas aren't given time-frames. When will some of these technologies really be available, or even plausible? (I realise some are actually quite close to reality, but other's are surely far into the future.) Is there some intrinsic law that technology **must** continue to get smarter/smaller/more powerful or is this based on past trends that could hit a brick wall in the near future? (Many computer science analysts predict a slowing, if not an end, to Moore's law in the next 20-50 years. Progress is not a guarantee, just a current, albeit longstanding, trend.) People tend to harp on about the ethics of transhumanism, whether agreeing or disagreeing, but everyone seems to take for granted all these things will come to fruition within our lifetimes. I'm trying to cast doubt on that. These technologies will come about much more slowly and naturally than any of these optimistic futurists will have you believe, and there will be varying degrees of many factors involving them; time of availability, the possibility of actually creating them, cultural acceptance, applicability, and market demand, among countless others. *TL;DR* Is ALL this transhumanist tech really possible? 'cause I don't think it's as easy and as close to us as this video makes it seem... Anyway, just some random thoughts. :)

Why put water into a hole of an egg and then bury it. maybe he was seeing if he could Grow a bird. or Grow more eggs. the very point of it was Imagination. not simply instinct or doing obvious things for their clear outcome but our Curiosity. To see what Might Happen. That whole idea of trying new things - even absurd things - the desire we have as human beings to try new things to come up with new ideas or ways to use things. Yes this one with the egg, probably didn't go anywhere. Then again it might have been the start of crop growing, seeing that where you pooped grew plants - why? Maybe it was something I ate? The egg? and so on. The very point that I came up with an answer for something so absurd. The very point that YOU Wanted to know what the point was - It's our make up to be curious. From 12:13 "And transhumanism will seem just as natural all evolution, and anyone who doesn't follow suit will seem thoroughly inhuman..." So... humanity 2.0 is going to see the un-augmented population as "inhuman", as mere animals. We all know where that kind of thinking leads and what is has been used to justify in the past. What about when resources really start going scarce or when earth has heated up too much, are the "inhuman" humans going to be included in the new Noas Arc to save humanity or are we left behind as we are not as important. Let's be clear here, this is not going to be a government program to make as all into immortal super cyborgs, the governments of the world don't even provide healthcare on a consistent basis in half of worlds countries, and even then most people have to pay for themselves. This is a rich elites biological and technological war against the majority population of the planet, who they plan to label as "inhuman" just like Sosa stated in the video, as soon as we are not needed anymore. Universal income, pffffff.... Why? When robotics and AI has taken over production, what's the point of having a workforce any longer? Let's make the rich into cyborg gods and reclassify the rest as not longer human so we can be disposed of, left behind to die when they go to the next planet or we live out the rest of our days in the wasteland that used to be a biosphere while they thrive in healthy paradise geodome gated communities.
