This was the first hit by the Commodores after Lionel left for a solo career. Love this song. It’s a tribute to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson, another Detroit icon. Grew up on the music of the 60s and 70s and Motown. Have seen Smokey Robinson in concert anytime he performs in Detroit area. We were lucky to have this kind of music. 👏👏

Your older brother born in the 80’s! I won’t even tell you my age.😂 But old enough to have met Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson ( yes. I’m from Detroit) and I saw the Commodores in concert. They performed this wonderful song.

Please, especially Marvin Gaye. Lots of Four Tops and their Standing in the shadows of love, and for some real fun - the Spinners "Rubber Band Man", the live version

The Commodores were huge in th 70s. Loved them then, love Lionel still. Saw him in concert a few years ago and he sounds as good live as he does on recordings. Glad you love the music of my generation. I'm figuring your grandparents probably listened to them a whole lot! Congrats on your new channel.

Thanks Dixie! I once found my dad's old cassettes in the attic: there was Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, The Beatles, Elton John-- i was so shocked because my dad was born and raised in Africa! That goes to show how far this amazing music has reached 👏

Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson both died in 1984. Commodores wrote this for them. ❤
