Congratulations! It’s a great result. More importantly though, I think you are someone who will apply their passions and energy to whatever you do, and that’s the real measure of success. All the best!
Great Job, Max! Back in 2009 VTAC sent us a text message, was a good thing since I had shit internet 😂 To anyone who needs to see this, your Year 12 score is not the end of the world, no matter what your teachers say. You won't be flipping burgers at Maccas forever if you get a shit score. You can still get to where you want to go. I got an absolute garbage score, got into uni the long way around (via TAFE) and I have a job that I love. I have done so much better in tertiary education than I ever did at school. I didn't even end up needing Year 12 to get to where I am now. You can skip Year 12 if it's not for you. TAFE is not an inferior option, don't let anyone convince you otherwise. Be kind to yourself and do what is right for you.
Very wise words Siobhán, thank you for such an awesome comment! ATAR is definitely a number that shouldn't define all Year 12s, and I think we still have a long way to go in regards to accepting the incredible range of options on offer. I know many people even at my age who've gone through TAFE or another alternative and commenced careers that perfectly suit them :) Thanks again
Great effort Max to do so well in a new study environment. Now that the distraction of Year 12 is out of the way, I'm looking forward to you resuming the serious business of making train videos! 😉 Some suggestions: a 2021 update on Metro tunnel; bike vs train heading north of Jewell station on the Upfield line; secrets of the lost Warburton line (could do a whole series on country lines which have become rail trails.)
I'm currently a year 12 student and I am so stressed about the ATAR score I might get at the end of the year. I'm only 3-4 months away from the external exams. I just hope that the external exams go well, so I can hopefully get a decent ATAR score. This is going to be so epic.
I admire your bravery in doing this live. Having enjoyed your videos, I can't believe how nervous I was about your results! So happy for you. With the challenges over the last 2 years, it's just great. Apart from all the train videos (please find time to continue them), looking forward to hearing what's in the future for you Max. Have a great Christmas and New Year. And thanks for the enjoyment you've provided so many people in 2021 as well.
Thanks heaps David! You could probably tell, but my heart was beating faster than it ever has haha and I'm happy it did. Now the focus is back on the trains, I want to create least 30 videos next year of pure greatness haha, I love sharing the love that transport can bring. It can easily be more than a boring commute, and that's what I want to explore in Melbourne, and beyond :)
Currently watching this on the Glen Waverley line bro. All the best for the future and would love to see you do some videos on the Brisbane train lines when you get the chance. Take care.
Congrats mate! Atar release was 5 years ago now for me. I think it was 78 but I can’t really remember. Now for uni, which I found much harder than year 12 (not to try put you off haha). Hope you get the course you want and when you’re back in Melbourne hit me up and we’ll walk the outer circle line or something.
CONGRATULATIONS MAX!! What course are you thinking of doing? If you want to do something relating to transport, I’d highly recommend the Bachelor of Design majoring in urban planning at Melbourne University. I just finished my first year of the course and I absolutely love it!! It gives you the backbone for understanding how public transport and other modes can be integrated into urban areas and might help you in planning out and working on certain train and tram line extensions and improvements. All the best for VTAC applications 🤞🤞
Congratulations. Hope we get to see more content from you soon. Maybe Melbournes tram lines history? Your work is amazing and you’ve taught this older bird so much about Melbourne and her rail lines. Thank you
Just off note. If you’re wanting to see the pile of trains that used to be on the metro lines, the ones which were discontinued. They have piled a heap of them in Geelong Norlane Train Station. People have graffitied the living daylights out of the sides. Plus a few burnt out carriages. They are being sold to scrappers and slowly being taken to be crushed and boxed for offshore soon.
Well done! (92 clap horn) I am in northern hemisphere (HK) so I have finished first semester in uni. I had a slow start but I will recover by the next semester! I am still doing crazy LRT and MTR runs over the holidays!
Congrats Max! Amazing job! Awesome message to future 12 years too. Now hurry up and get back to Melbourne for uni........the people need some Train Man videos!!!
Great Job! I'm in Year 9 Next Year so I have a little bit before I have to stress about this. But since I don't know much about the system, why are you registered in the Queensland One? Did you secretly move without telling us? No Matter what, That's a Great Score and I can only Dream of getting a Score that good. (And hopefully I will in Year 12.)
You'll smash it mate, enjoy the last years :) I did indeed sneakily move up in January, I didn't want to scare you guys into thinking I was leaving the channel
As I posted elsewhere don't stress yourself out, there's alternative pathways to most degrees these days. Maybe even save yourself some HECS and do a diploma as a bridge into second year uni!
Haha, bit belated but that was awesome! Congrats, man! This is going to be me in six months :''') It's so nerve-wracking with everything being so close and so far away
Max, congratulations on getting a 92! I'm in year 11 going into year 12, and wow you did really well. Also considering half of your subjects didn't scale well either. But yeah I do Methods, physics and business too, any tips for those subjects, or resources you're willing to share?
Thanks mate, I appreciate it :) ATAR Notes is free and has a load of content for Business specifically. I don't specifically have tips for those subjects or any really good notes for that matter haha, but I would just make sure during the year that you use your class time as much as possible, to ask even the smallest questions to your teacher. If you hate that teacher, either feel free to see another one, or head onto RU-vid as there are so many great Methods and Physics videos on there. Good luck 👍👍
1) Don't stress, Year 12 is so much better and more enjoyable than you think 2) Work with friends to study, they can answer your questions, you can answer theirs 3) Like I said in the vid, ask teachers and schedule times to work through stuff you don't understand, even if you're uncomfortable, it will be SO helpful and I wish I did it more 4) Work every night for a tiny bit of time, even looking through notes and making points of things you didn't get in class 5) Don't work a job more than 15 or so hours and leave time for yourself to enjoy something outside of school Lemme know if you want more whats your name? dont have to answer
Because your up in QLD, you could make videos on some of the trains over there. Such the electric tilt train, sprit of qld, inlander/westlander, spirit of the outback and more
Well done mate. 92 is a great score. You will be able to do quite a lot in UNI with a score like that. I'm going into year 12 next year so thanks for that good advice at the end of the video. Merry Christmas.
Thanks Nicholas! Seriously, don't stress about it. It is so fun if you let it be! Just do a little bit of work constantly rather than cramming for tests and you'll do fine, that's the only advice you need, DON'T CRAM STUDY :)
My family wanted to move up like many others because of covid and the weather haha. I just caught in the middle of it and didn't get time to react. I wouldn't change a thing so, this year has been incredibly fun!
Oh cool, thanks for letting me know. Yeah a lot of people moved to Queensland this year from Victoria from what I've heard, my family wants to move up in a few years or so. Weather's much nicer there. Hope you can still film train videos though. (I'm sure you've already got some you're waiting to upload anyway.)
@@the_train_man. …remember your own advice. Make time to enjoy the uni lifestyle, it’s not just about studying. It seems you have found the recipe for success in education. Would I guessing correctly of thought you will be studying visual media? If I’m correct, also consider doing some Business subjects if you have some gaps in your day you want to fill up at uni.
Well, it was a toss up between visual media and a bachelor of design, and I opted for the design course. This is mainly because I'd love to move into city/ rail infrastructure planning in the future in conjunction with my channel. You never know though, I could end up hosting documentaries for the rest of my life and I wouldn't be complaining :)
Congratulations from a 1967 Commie (Commonwealth Scholarship winner - to Melbourne University, for a B. Comm.) (KymY (72) - a CPA and AGIA (ACIS) - in Darwin)
@@the_train_man Cool, I’m doing QCE year 11 this year. I did a vce subject in year 10 (business management). This year I’m doing English, General Math, methods, Chemistry, science in prac and social and community studies. From your experience is the QCE system better or worse out of curiosity? And in addition can you make a video on how you approached the year 12 PSMT?
Congrats... what are you going to study... - engineering (civil, electrical or transport), GIS, stats or is it non-train related. I know you don't need uni to be a driver or guard.
My two options I'm looking at: Bachelor of Design (Looking into city planning, urban design) at Melb Uni or Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Monash Leaning towards design as engineering doesn't seem my thing. Would love to have a job that focuses at the human aspects and functionality of projects, collaborating with an engineer to create something special, like a new railway line :) Thanks!
@@the_train_man So I was kind of right. I studied urban design for a year or two at uni (before I switched to arts). There is also things like architecture, landscape design as well as urban planning. This is why I love playing games like sim city and I still love trains and infrastructure. It sounds like a great option Geographical information systems (or spatial science) which is sort of in between design and engineering. It looks at satellite imagery, maps and remote sensing it also links into environmental sciences. Civil Engineering at Monash - master of transportation systems.... bet that course caught your attention. You would need to be really good at maths and physics and have a brain that likes to problem solve and be a bit hands on. Did you see the SBS documentary on 'sydney's super tunnel' there is lots of career stuff in it. The bit on the Hills areas of the network in the north west is particularly relevant. There was also one on the 'super sewer' being built in London. I'm sure you would have watched all the various 'crossrail' documentaries. The one on the Mumbai Railway is totally claustrophobic and scary. Careers with STEM is a good site for getting relevant info. futures city shaper job kit, (website and youtube) construction and projects (youtube)
Well done. ;) I would have bet you were Victorian given the amount of coverage you've given the rail line down here! edit: ah you moved lol For those that are disappointed with their score, I think kids put themselves under so much undue pressure to do well in these. The fact is even if you flunk but have the aptitude most degrees have alternative pathways so it's really not the end of the world!
Well done Max. You deserve the great future this will no doubt bring. In fact, you might score a job here in Retardistan, (Queensland) as CEO of Queensland Rail Passenger services. On second thoughts no, you would be over qualified. Im sure you only need Primary School pass to run QR Passenger, given how pathetic the last 4 CEO's have been..haha. But all congratulations to you on a job well done. And your honesty and maturity in this video will inspire many others. Excellent work.
I would love to become the CEO of Queensland Rail Passenger Services. No job is too big for the future and I would love to help improve an already cool system in my opinion. Thank you for your kind words as well :)
