why arenanet discontinued raids at 30:22 ? is there anychance they will make new raids? I personally like to have high difficulty content to be challenged with... and ive read that strikes are soo easy that everyone completes them without any kind of effort... is there any hard pve content that feels like a challenge to accomplish?
Would love to see you do a "Lvl 80, what now" video, based on your experience and learnings on which aspects of the game to prioritize. GW2's open ended gameplay is its biggest strength and also its biggest weakness.
lvl 80, what now? Choose: PvP, WvW, Open World, Group Instance or Other. PvP: Enter PvP lobby, choose Elite speck you like, go lose in unranked, learn the loops, look up build, come better, go rank, have fun. WvW: Enter WvW, hope you already unlocked elite speck you liked, go lose and annoy people, learn the loops, join WvW guild, practice, come better, have fun. Open World: You do World event, hunt World bosses, Grind gold, afk farming and basically have fun. Ohter: Jumping Puzzles on every zone. Achievements to be completed. Masteries to be completed. Legendary item hunting. Doing the Story. Leveling all 9 professions to lvl 80 and unlocking all 27 elite specialitazions and much much more I didn't say. Group instance content: 1) Dungeons - 5 man group content that is old and only used to get Nightmare runes or Monk runes 👍 2) Fractals - 5 man group content alternative for raids and strikes. 3) Dragon Respons Missions - 5 man group content no one does in big map. I did them for masteries. 4) Strike - 10 man group content against single boss. 5) Raids - 10 man group content against multiple bosses. People usually choose either Strikes & Raids or Fractals. The two other are not usually ran. Tough it is good to do them all once. My recommendation Do both Fractals Tier 1 and Strikes Easy IBS (IBS3) if you want to get in to instance content and pick a Power build which is cheaper to comepy. You can start in full exotic and when you think you can do your rotation with good dps you can join Raid Training. PvP and WvW no idea. Open world and other you do you 👍 Doing story already leads you around the world and you can come to the content that way 😁 If you want challenge from PvE do all Fractal, Strike and raid Challenge Modes. That will entertain you while. (2500 hours later I still have not done all of them :< still missing Harvest Temple Challenge Mode as last one)
There's one thing you forgot to mention about the Personal Story: If you group with another player before entering the instance, they will enter the instance with you! At the end, they will be asked whether or not they'd like to receive the reward for the mission, and if they click "yes" they will get a class-appropriate item and XP - the same as they would have done if they had completed it themselves! So if you have a person who you game with regularly, only one of you needs to buy the Living Story seasons.
Thanks for the info. Me and my friend are planning on playing the game. But every mmo has a different mechanic on playing with friends/groups. Glad to read that we can level up together without worrying that only the leader of the group will get the rewards/progress through history.
That's only if they have the same personal story with you...like for instance humans who have same the options have the ability to progress their own individual lines If The hist has the same choices as those in their party. Also it's capped 5 for the story if you group up. But YOU can also join another's personal story even if you don't have the same choices and are not of the same race. But when the story converges for all races its about level 40-50. The group thing for the story makes RP really fun as well.
That was a very well done beginner guide. It was something I saved to my watch later in case I need to send some beginner resource to someone. I've been playing the game for years and I still get overwhelmed by all that is still available for me to collect in the achievement panel.
Great job on the video. I've been playing GW2 since the beta and I always hear people "It doesn't matter what race you choose" or profession. This is nonsense, if you're a new player and you hate the snow and you select Norn you're not going to like the game environment very much and may quit the game. The same with barren landscapes and the Char so it really does matter. Also, the Char jump with all fours and can really be tricky especially on jumping puzzles, Norn can be so tall that in caves you have camera issues, Asura can be tough jumping as well because they are tiny. Professions also matter some of them are very difficult to master and are only effective at higher levels so an Ele or Assassin might seem great to start with but dying over and over sucks, Guardian seems cool but you get so frustrated you give up the game. Don't be afraid to try different various professions in PVP also don't be afraid to kill off lower level characters until you find the right combination of race and prof. I hope this was helpful.
Crazy how armor and skins have a store associated with them but they let you change your colors at any time for free. Wonder if blizzard is taking notes…. Oh wait that would destroy like 70% of their revenue
Thx for this video, although I've played this game for years, on and off, since its evolution from GW1, I have often missed so much or just forgotten it. This was a nice reminder, at least for me, and with the inclusion of your other videos to fill in the missing knowledge its a real boon here. I'm still currently lost with all the variety of things to do and collect or actually for those "I need to do and need to collect" to continue to grow. I would like to progress, in a somewhat reasonable manner, but honestly I feel overwhelmed lol. The sandbox, anything goes, is great concept but unless one has grown along with the game over the years you can easily feel overwhelmed with all the new currencies, the multiple manners of acquiring gear, etc. And the older, dedicated player base, I believe, misses this simple point, sort of a not seeing the forest for the trees effect in the long run as they busily go about their daily routines and acquire their new legos and debate their takes on their current game mode's "meta" to continue their own personal journeys . . . Yeah, I'm now lvl 80 on several characters (7) only two here boosted with one more boost on the way, but alas poor as a church mouse. Whoopee, I'm starting the end game dead broke but then again, now I can continue grinding out a few more piles of silver and a gold coin or two, but now its in level 80 zones, so that's growth, right lmao. So, I guess what I'm really saying here is, pls, keep up the good work and community service even if its just to shine a tiny bit of light into this vast realm of ever expanding darkness, its much needed if this game is to have a future . . .
So basically it's free to play but it's an absolute nightmare to play with no dlcs. If you have no dlcs you got no mounts, fishing, specialisation, revenant and a few othr things. If you have no money, you can barely customize your character too. So realistically it's free to DOWNLOAD but pay to play. Also why is this game more confusing than WoW?
I just started playing a few days ago and am really enjoying the game, the structure and gameplay loop of the world exploration really suits my play style. In ff14 I hated that the world itself felt so empty and didnt care about the story at all, in WoW its alright but all i ever wanted to do was collect herbs and ore and ignore the gear treadmill
that theres no sub and i can log in whenever I want and whittle away at exploring the map is nice The most impressive thing by far is i have yet to see a gold bot. Not once, I have about 7 hours of gameplay so far
same here, never played ff14 but with wow it just felt to grindy if you consider that all your gear isnt viable as soon as the next patch/season/expansion drops. and as a mostly solo content player its extremely grindy to get higher gear. and dungeons/raids i always felt like someone is always watching me and as soon as you make one mistake you get flamed.
Awesome video, hope it will guide some new players to the game :) I’d love to see a video about the early struggles of new players: Item types you loot during gameplay and what to do with them, many new players are struggle to navigate in the flood of junk we loot. What to keep/vendor/TP/convert/combine etc.
indeed. Even veterans occasionally have to open the wiki to know if something is worth keeping ... imagine being brand new and having to deal with the enormous amount of currencies ( and the entire " chest in a bag ,in a sack ,in a coffer " lootsystem )
@@CaffeinatedDad It absolutely is! Been spending a few hours in the game now and this is one of the questions that popped up in my mind. Brand new player btw! Would love more more more content for new players, as I hope this could be my new goto game :)
Hey Caffeinated Dad! Just leveled a new Warrior using *mostly* the Character Adventure Guide that is on the list of Activities right under the Daily Tab on the Hero Panel! It took me 3 days. I was blown away by how quick it was.
Waiting for the last parts to finish my PC.. GW2 will likely be my first stop.. I've wanted to play this MMO for years. I'm not paying the subscription to play WoW, not for a game that looks 25 years old. Plus.. They removed /spit. I heard that bothered the OG's. Haha
I thinking if i should try guild wars 2, but i cant pay any expansion bc of my country economic dropping by day and needing to pay 100% of the price in taxes. It is still worth? or should i try to others MMOs? Not having mounts sounds really annonying
It's great for the trial period for sure. The low expansion cost could offer great pieced content. If money is an absolute no go then the core game provides great free content
HOLY CRAP i didnt know the 4 colored arrows on the bottom right of the map take u to diffmajor regions!!!! holy crap i always have trouble dragging the map all the way down to cantha and i was literally complaining in my head that i wish theres a "snap to region" option somewhere. jokes on me, its already there XDDDDD
Been watching your videos - Even as someone who's played all the way through Gw1 and Gw2 series, it's still a nice intake of information and your point of view's. Good video!
@@CaffeinatedDad , i do like it and even though im old ima try to get good with the tempest! i will say the whole looking around with right click messed me up for awhile. ive been playing bg3. but im used to it now lol
I've been playing GW2 for some time now, on and off I always back to play this game because I really enjoyed it, even I don't have any idea about the game at first, I bougth all the expansions, but the thing is currencies, achievements, crafting is very overwhelming, it fine for me but the thing is it's very hard to find these, and you need gwiki or I need to go to youtube just to look what I'm looking for, I hope they would update the UI for this, and make the exploration more easy and easier way to understand all this currencies
True! The game does a poor job at lending itself into what you are suppose to do. Essentially you have to seek outside sources to figure out how to play the game which sucks!
So the video is good, however i see one problem, you are overwhelming the new players Who see this video in the tutorial, my take would be, that you should Focus more on how you play the Game at the begining, exploration, renown Hearts, main quests, diferent wepaons, skills etc, being 15 mins into the video the new players Who see this video have not seen you explain the stuff that they are going yo take care and Matter in the begining such as those i mentioned before, instead you are trowing them a lot of infomation they do not care about in the begining, such as wardrobre, finishers or expansions stuff, its okay that you explain all of this since its in the Game and its features but those are things the new players not gonna Matter at the begining. Soz for my english
I understood you perfectly, very well spoken. Agreed, I could make them all into bite sized portions across many videos however the problem I run into is with youtube. Yourube values longer watch time in a single video. If I break smaller videos down into shorter segments, there's a higher chance they won't get as many views as compared to a larger video that houses them all. I understand your point however I see my hands tied atm
This covers most of your bases so understanding this gets you a good grasp on the game. But it's still a casual mmo so you can ignore most of this and learn it as you go!
@@CaffeinatedDad I played GW2 for about half an hour, on it's initial release. What would you suggest I do with my nearly eleven year old, level two, human guardian to begin with?
1:10 FALSE!! Asura and Sylvari experience the actual lore of the game that GW2 offers. Also, it's "Differences among." To add to the discussion of the classes, the Engineer can be made in a way that allows players who want to play this game but have a physical disability enjoy the game. i recommend that F2P players choose to play a Mesmer and Necromancer for their two character slots, and pray by an AH for Superior Runes of the Traveler. 5:55 Correction, starter instance for your characters race. 9:25 Transmutation charge, and while PvP is one of the main features of GW2, a player may experience getting their first few via map completion, especially of one of the race cities. 13:40 Hero Points (or HP's) for a F2P player unlock to interact with after a period of in game time played, i believe it's two weeks but not sure. However, F2P players can gain HP's other players activate that require taking down NPC's to earn. i believe HP's will also not show up on your map until said unlock happens. 18:42 F2P players CANNOT send mail, but can receive. 19:32 F2P players CANNOT use the currency exchange. 20:08 F2P players can sell most anything and purchase crafting materials, but are very limited on what can be purchased. For example, Zhed is the name of the Berserker light armor set. F2P players cannot purchase this. 20:24 F2P players DO NOT have access to map chat. 24:50 ARENANET made a restriction so F2P players have to reach level 20 before being able to access PvP. They got tired of new players playing F2P jumping into PvP just to "better examine" the character class they were interested in playing only to leave the map, because entering PvP set your character to max level regardless what progress you made. 30:00 i lost interest in your video. Realized you have a "2024" version which i assume ALSO ignores the limitations a F2P player will experience.
Just downloaded the game and didnt understand what to do. Watched like 2hrs of beginner guides and they were all fine explaining the ui and all but noone tackled what to actually do. Apart from you going even deeper into the ui you also explained the quest/achievement tracker and dynamic events in the top right corner which makes this by far the most helpful tutorial. So I guess up until lvl 80 and me being somewhat familiar with the game I'd tackle quests/achievements and dynamic events? Cheers!
Thank you so much for this! I started an Elementalist/Nord and have about 7 hours in at Lvl 21. Was starting to understand many of the mechanics, but wanted an in-depth explanation of everything to be able to fully jump in and know which Expansions to invest in. I may just hold off while I'm grinding through the F2P and buy the $99 pack, as I can see myself putting 200+ hours into this over the next year, but having mounts right now would greatly improve the gameplay for me. I guess I have a decision to make, but greatly enjoying everything else about the game so far. May just spend $40 and get what I want to cover me for the first 100 hours, as I still have ESO to jump into on my limited time LMAO
Legit there's soooo much you can get into in this game so understandably taking your time and easing into it is my recommendation. There is a mess of content in the game! I'm glad that you are getting involved! Especially with an elementalist! Glad I could help!
Awesome video!!! Thanks. I hope it’s ok to suggest/ask for a topic? Well, here goes… Could you create a video of how to best set the Options. Also, along with that, kind of a split screen showing the action on screen and below that showing the hand movements… showing how you use the keyboard and mouse to make what happens on screen. Don’t know if I articulated this very well but hope you get what I’m asking. I have a hard time using the mouse/keyboard really effectively especially in meta, fractals, and the you know advanced content. Thanks for you time!! And your videos are definitely the place I go to first when I need to know something, so thanks again!!
Man I had so much fun using my tag to fill up living story maps while farming them for legendary mats to make rings trinkets and backpacks a few years back. No dammit you will not drag me back into this game.
Thx for the work mate One question - what’s with the numerous pauses in-between words for this audio? Never heard you talk like that so far… it’s like the voice is AI generated or you’re trying real hard not to swear lol
Funny enough I write everyone of my scripts and typically just record from them. This video I narrated what I was doing in game which required multiple takes and sometimes goofy audio lol I do actually really appreciate that you noticed! It gives me faith that people do pay attention to the small details!
Thanks for the video its very helpful. I played a little of this game a few months ago and only just picked it up again and have been having so much fun. It's super overwhelming, but I've found some weapons i like to use and I'm just working my way through leveling and the story... I just got to level 54 :)
@CaffeinatedDad I'm really enjoying it. There are still a bunch of things I don't understand and my build has absolutely no optimisation but I figure I'll get to that eventually. For now I'm just having fun exploring :)
A question: If I'm a f2p player rn, can I use the trading post? Because whenever I try to sell or buy something it seems like I need to buy an expansion
I say my biggest tip is pick a class that you aesthetically find pleasing and find a play style that you like and that class followed by just going through the story. Like if you can get all the expansions. Unlock your mouse ASAP by doing path of fire. Pay attention to the story or just replay it later. And then after you unlock your mounts, play through the entire game story. In order you will learn so much about the mechanics. Really get to see the world and the mounts just makes the experience faster like I've been playing the game since released but I still haven't done like a lot of like the collection based stuff. Me and my roommate have been playing on and off since we were teenagers or the game came out when I was 22 but he was 21 and we still don't have legendary anything but they keep making it easier and easier for us to obtain our first legendaries now with the wizards vault stuff it's easier than ever. But anyways I'm going off track finish the whole story so you can experience the world and really understand what's going on with the mastery system and what's going on in the world and every time they release a new expansion it becomes drastically easier to do stuff in the older parts of the game. So don't spend too much time in the older parts of the game. Just go through the story so you can unlock all those tools. When I got a griffin map completion got much easier and then once I got my dragon it got even easier. And now it's a new expansion focusing on the dragon. Now it's easy for you all to get the dragon, but now the dragon gets like a new masteries that just makes it even easier. I keep seeing people attacking with their dragon without needing to land and I think that's incredible. I can't wait to get to that. I'm waiting on my roommate for the storyline so I can't just go jumping into the expansion yet
I think you highlighted a pretty good strategy, actually! Just get the mounts and experience the game that way. Sure it may be a bit non traditional but the convenience supersedes the slow pace!
Bro, I'm trying to get back into the game but what's overwhelming me is not knowing what to do and my bags being encumbered. Idk what's valuable and what's not.
I just started playing today, then discovered this guide! Talk about perfect timing, amirite? I've decided to main an Ele, going for the weaver spec once I get to that point in my GW2 journey.
I´ve just started playing it on Steam. I played the fudge out of early access, but for some reason completely forgot about ot, and therefore haven´t played it since. This series was really useful for me, for the reason mentioned above.
@Roachehh typically, you get a more challenging experience, elite specs potentially a mount but it removes some of the throttles of a free to play account (if that's what you are using) such as trade, wayypoints, and messaging
Thank you for this guide you made. I wanna try the game but i don't have much time to invest in an mmo right know and with all the content there is in this game it feels too much. But i think i will just enjoy the game and i won't rush anything. Thanks again 😉
I want to play this so badly, but only have a PS5 💔 Why do we get sh!t like Black Desert and not this masterpiece! 😭 I'm a very social person who loves to cooperate and play with others, and also love games that respect my time, do not BS me, and are not always about combat but also about adventure and exploration.
@@CaffeinatedDad They even dropped mac OS support, so I don’t think they had the resources. Maybe with NCsoft recognizing GW2 success they might reconsider porting the game to consoles. Right now, I’m considering options like the steam deck, but since I never play on the go, I’d rather not.
@@airmen_fresh for Ascended gear, if you have access to living world season 3 - Bitterfrost Frontier, you can collect Winterberries which can be traded for a few different ascended pieces like ring/back piece and I think accessory. The good thing about this is that you can collect these Winterberries with as many characters you have which makes it very easy to obtain some ascended gear. Id also consider a few world bosses that can potentially drop ascended chests which contain weapons. Tequatl, karka queen and triple trouble. You can also buy ascended trinkets from laurel merchants but with only core game stats. Lastly, if u have a level 80 character, start completing daily + recommended fractals. You can get trinket drops in lower levels and potentially ascended chests in higher tiers, not to mention good gold per hour.
I recently got hacked and lost my Chars. Because I’m a noob and still struggled a lot in endgame, I decided to look for tips and guides this time. Thanks for the help 😊
Not really although by completing the pvp reward tracks you'll gain tomes of knowledge which level you! Spvp is the only area where gear does not matterA
I bought this game 9 years ago..own almost all expansions bought on sales..i have quit this game so many times i literally just finished the base game story ..almost 10 years later. Every time i restart i get to a point where its soooo infuriating that i just rage and uninstall it. I like playing caster clases and while i enjoy the elementalist..having to constantly feel like im playing Dark Souls, seeing my hp drop in a nanosecond from 100 to 0.1% from EVERYTHING usually makes me quit again 😂
I have watched hundreds of "Intro to *insert game name here*" videos and this is leaps and bounds the best one I've watched. Very detailed and very informative and made the game look fun while doing so.
You seem to conveniently omit that all top tier content will be impossible for new players. Raids, challenge mode strike missions and fractals are all gatekept by elitist players demanding exhorbitant amounts of killproof which even mid tier players will never dream of achieving. And whoever thinks classes are (or even have been) balanced in gw2 pvp should be fired on the spot and never allowed near an mmo design team again. How is a warrior plinking for an average of 4K strike damage supposed to compete against elementalist and necromancer variants with 100% protection and stability uptime while pumping out 60k to 70k condition damage in a matter of seconds while holding said warrior in a permanent stunlock? Do you people even look at the numbers? Anyways, my tip is to buy a copy of Elder Scrolls online and see how pvp balance is done properly. And you could argue to do other content, but other than giving a few medicore world boss the occasional pedicure the game is essentially another boring AF mmo time sink. The idea of a personal story is great but again with far too much dialog its also boring AF. I dont think I'll stick around to be dissapointed by another expansion where exciting things are given then taken away again. Bladesworn anyone? At least hammer warrior hasnt been totally shafted again, but I'm expecting that incoming too. Gotta play memser, elementalist or necromancer otherwise Anet hates you. Anyway 'nuff said, bye GW2, player of 8+ years signing off.
No need, every 10 levels from now on since you bought the expansion will unlock the raptor, so if your lvl 40 and bought the expansion you should get access at lvl 50 if not immediately after purchasing( this was the case for my 2nd Account, raptor unlocked asap as I entered the expansion code) if you want all mounts you need to do PoF story to get the basic 4, raptor, springer, skimmer an jackal, rollerbeetle and skyscale are lw4, the turtle is from EoD
I stopped playing the original Guild Wars a bit after 2 came out because we lost some player base and lifelife, yadayada. Always wanted to play GW2 , put thousand hours into GW1 and all the expansions. I did it all , ran , cartography titles, guild battles. I just don't own a PC but I want to play tf out of it. I'd be willing to buy a laptop if need be lol
@jabkoprins7131 most of the mounts are behind the path expansion. Although you can also get the skyscale from secrets of the obscure, the most recent expansion
Guild Wars Original Feast of Corruption hyper-specialization: 1. Awaken the Blood: Increases the effectiveness of blood and curse skills 2. Soul Barbs: if the enemy is hexed they get damaged. 3. Ulcerous Lungs: the hex causes foes to have additional hp degen when bleeding. 4. Barbed Signet: Causes bleeding to foes. 5. Oppressive Gaze: Every foe suffering from a condition becomes poisoned and weakened. 6. Feast of Corruption: Every foe that is hexed gets hit with shadow damage and life steal.
I find it kinda funny how I've been playing for almost a year I think & have hundreds of hours on a character, yet I still watch beginners stuff - possibly because I enjoy them & like seeing all the options, possibly because I also don't know what I'm doing most days lol (I know what I should be doing, but when it comes to it, I just jump around on my mount lol)
@bloodbornepro2627 absolutely! Gw2 doesn't ha e a mob tag system at all, everyone gets credit as long as the person participated in the fight. You may have to dig a little for fractals (mini dungeons) or for raids, but strike missions (single boss instances) are usually constantly looking for people
now i question myself why i havent played this game way before i just payed 6 hours (straight) necromancer is really fun but id like to try the other classes :)
man i have just went down a guilds wars 2 hole with your videos!!!! I have been debating to start this game and so far your videos have been the best to watch and im gonna start it tonight
@@CaffeinatedDad I got a buddy who plays it a lot, I started last night and got to level 30 and loving it!!! Like you said take in the atmosphere enjoy the game, which may I say has made it much more fun for me
