I think something that sets Denji apart in his "perviness" is unlike other "pervy" male main characters, Denji isn't a sex offender. He actually respects women a lot and doesn't cross any boundaries. He's just lacking in the social skills due to his upbringing and it bounces off nicely because a lot of the characters lack in social skills. Unlike a lot of shonen where the women are just viewed as objects by the male lead often leading to assault.
Yea at first i didnt want to watch it because of that thought it was just gonna be pointless sex fest but not Denji actually dosnt try to be a sex offender and respect the boundries its really nice to see
It's actually not 9/11. The anime takes place in 1997. There was a bombing of the World Trade Center that took place in 1993 as well where the towers didn't fall. The anime purposefully has old cars and flip phones because it's 1997 that it takes place in. Speaking as someone who lived through both attacks, although I was 7 when the 93 one happened, lol.
@@fernandourrea6738 you realize... I said nothing specific right? Most would assume I'm referring to the fact that the story takes place in a different universe, as such a different history. By saying I'm spoiling something, you're drawing attention to what was meant to be a subtle comment. Thanks. A lot. Really.
@@tonywilliams6294 [edited to remove possible spoilers] you literally said [spoiler]. An anime only has no reason to know or suspect anything regarding the cause for this change in the timeline. I wouldn't have said anything if you'd just said [spoiler], but specifying it was the [spoiler] is just super unnecessary and not at all "subtle" like you're trying to say it was.
@@batnick4998 I may have bias since I read the CSM manga in a single night while blasting heavy rock, but that manga felt like doing four lines of coke, run onto the street and break into an abandoned office building to do wheelies with the office chairs, whilst the anime felt surprisingly more somber and cool 🤔 they're both good but personally would stick to the manga
They don't pretend that pervy motivations are heroic or brush it aside cute and quirky. It's relatable, and Denji does slowly grow as a character and as a good person, but it's not a joke like in some anime.
I just gotta say: Denji is extremely relatable as a protagonist, he’s sixteen and his two biggest goals are eating a good breakfast and copping a feelski, and because of best dog Pochita’s sacrifice he is able to achieve both of these.
Also, his whole motivation is based on his past. Everyone else's lives sucked, but they have NO IDEA what Denji went through. They want revenge, or money, or power, but all Denji wanted was to crawl his way up to bare minimum.
I'm headcanoning that Denji really likes Bill Nye the Science Guy now. The show was actually airing when chainsaw Man takes place anyway, (1993-1998, csm takes place in 97)
The soft little "... How'd I do that" at being right about it being a lollipop in denjis pocket annihilated me, it was almost innocent in how genuine it was
He could have just assume she has a contract with a devil, it's pretty common in this universe, also power has horns, every devil in human body has some corruption that marks them, not just the eyes.
@@williamwolfstein6170 but thats the thing only the demons/possessed, makima and Power, have odd eyes Even his favorite girl has normal eyes and hers was taken
WARNING: Do not watch this compilation while consuming any form of food or drink or in any form of darkness, as you will be subjected to copious amounts of dark humor, slightly well-adjusted humor, and horrifying images that may induce night terrors or nightmares. Viewer discretion advised.
Denji's perviness comes across as sad and pitiable in a way that few other anime pull off since it stems from his extreme lack of any kind of comfort or stability as a child. He's a boy raised on a pop culture's idea of what a boy should want. He knows how to follow his id to things like tasty food and hot people, but doesn't really get trust or loyalty or kindness or empathy or basic human softness which shows how hollow the perviness is.
The reason chainsaw man is such a good series is because denji is a hilariously relatable character. He's sixteen, lived his life under a rock, and his two motivations in the early stages of the animanga are copping a feel and eating a good breakfast. These motivations change and evolve as Denji learns more about the real world, and himself. It's a really fun (read: interesting and depressing) story about one man's growth as a person now that he knows "freedom"
I loved Denji's perviness despite usually hating the various ecchi tropes in anime because the show is dead serious about it. It's not something reluctantly tacked on to attract additional viewers who only come for the fan service, now it's an essential part not only of Denji's character but of his character progression and even of the plot itself. It's kind of the reason why it generally didn't bother me in Kill la Kill either (although there it was more about themes than plot).
I feel you! I fell in love with Himeno almost immediately, and was so excited to see more of her, and then that episode happened... 😭 Still, I love the way her storyline was told.
Chainsaw Man has been peak entertainment for me and I've loved this reaction series. I'm so sad it's over and I hope it gets a season 2 that you react to
@@tristanmargellos2919 fr, if they like katana man they'd definitely love antagonists like Santa and quanxi. Pretty much none of the characters have completed their character arc either
You are supremely overselling it. It is an incomplete story, at least in the anime and so far what we have adapted is just what the entire csm fandom considers as the extended prologue. We get higher highs than this later. Don't get me wrong. It's still a good anime, but definitely not peak. solid 8/10.
I still can't decide if I am hyped for next season or if I am fucking dreading seeing anything more from Chainsaw Man animated. On one hand, Reeze and probably Yoshida, I think. On the other, getting closer and closer to the fucking end of part 1.
i was watching this video and the entire time i was like " yes! YES! he gets it!". great reaction man, also W taste for simping for himeno. it's kinda sad this season is only 12ep cause you would've love the hell of what's coming next
After finishing season 1 i couldnt wait for the rest of the manga to get animated, so i ended up buying the entire collection and read it all in 3 days, then downloded a manga reader app to catch up on part 2 since the new volumes havent been released in english yet. I havent put in that much work to consume any other media series ever, thats how damn good chainsaw man is. When i finished part 1 i turned to my friend and just went “this is, without a doubt, the best series i have ever watched or read in my entire life.”
@@WinterPains Doesn't Beastars notoriously fall apart in it's second half? I liked the anime up until the end of season 2 where I felt the story jumped the shark.
Bro I read the whole thing in like 2 days. On Sunday afternoon, I was just sitting on my bed listless realizing there was no more CSM and I had nothing else to look forward to (this was before Part 2 dropped)
If the rest of the fiends are normal punchy punchy anime characters then Galgali is fucking Star Platinum. Not to mention besides being fueled by one of the most common fears he also retains memories and human emotions and morals from the body he took over. Also he gave Kobeni an ice cream so in my book he's 10/10 the best
Just know you have seen literally NOTHING YET……the fights to come the craziness will be there AND they will have huge emotional context . This shit is child’s play I promise you
You’re reaction to makima getting absolutely blasted on the train was good enough to get a like form me 😂😂😂. Read the manga man that’s all I gotta say…..you ain’t seen shit yet. This ip is fucking insane
24:32 that's the thing; the manga has even more trippy stuff going on . the endings are what's closest to it imo, but I still like what they did with the show.
12:15 im ngl i actually wish it was even brighter with like fluorescent tones to it 24:13 i love the oversaturation and waiting for the other shoe to drop vibe too but in fight scenes specifically having them be even more hyper would have been kinda fun imo
I watched the entire season as it aired and then started reading the manga but I can’t even explain how much I am enjoying this video! You’re awesome! Glad I discovered you from the @OtakusAnonymous podcast.
Fun fact about the intro. "Makima was feeding Denji a parasitic insect known as the Leucochloridium. It wriggles its way into their host and renders them absolutely helpless against predators. It becomes a mindless zombie, with no will of its own." Kind of like Denji. p.s. love the content Danny. If you ever step into the Manhwa world, you should read Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint.
I think the pervyness works because it's not actually fan service. It's not done with the intention that it titalates the intended audience (usually young boys for the usual form of the trope) and instead it's part of Denji's character and part of the narritive's overarching themes about desire and happiness. Like food, lust is a natural appetite. Denji's perviness is as serious as his love for food and I can get behind that. The other thing is that Denji's sexual desires while prevalent are not his entire character.
Honestly, a lotta the "fan service" scenes made me uncomfortable, which I think was their intention, the power scene is weird because romance and platonic relationships don't go together, the makima scene screams grooming and manipulation, and the himeno scene is pedophelia to the point of being creepy
@Ilikesweatymen134 Yeah, the Himeno scene is especially uncomfortable, but that's what makes it so great. I really love this show for actually having the courage to go there. It made Himeno's death one of the most impactful deaths for me because of how unsure I felt. Should I be sad that she died? The fact I'm left with mixed feelings is awesome.
@@DefinetlyNotACrocodile 16 is legal, lol, what pedophilia are you taking about. Plus, he looks alder then he is so being attracted to him won't be a pedophilia no matter what his age is.
Danny, Im so glad you love this anime. Its one of my favorites easily and all the notes you had on it were simply perfect. I really really hope it gets a season two one day with as much care that went into season one.
E1: Your reactions were so hekkin relatable E2: I'M LITERALLY WHEEZING at your reaction to the nut shots XD E3: The vibe, color palette, and ost is 100% why i love this show so much- ... well, that and Power. E4: Your reactions to the Leech Devil and Fox Devil are fucking GOLDEN E5: Actually, it IS A COMMENTARY on the objectification trope & she IS being manipulative. E6: "it's like an algorithm specifically designed this girl to steal my heart" YOU & ME BOTH E7: Yeeep the barf episode's gross E8: The captions for Himeno's last words were actually slightly off; she didn't say "you can cry for me" she said "i *want* you to cry for me" and that fucking HURT ME. E9: "the worst case of The Squishies ive ever seen" Y'know, that's what ima call it from now on; thanks E10: Kishibe? More like KishiBAE, AMIRITE?! No but srsly i love this dead-eyed drunkard. E11: "Bro ur death is gunna be a literal disaster lmao" Ah, Future Devil, never change you silly tree geezer XD also the shark [aka seapuppy] is named Beam E12: To be honest, i don't know if the songs are the same, but i know i love them and i love Himeno and i love the Nut Shot Contest and i love Power and i love this whole fucking show.
I’m not a very big anime person, but the concept of this show alone was enough to get me to watch it. A man who kills demons by transforming into a half-man half-demonic chainsaw monster is just so unapologetically metal and I mean that in the best way possible.
This is by far the best react video I've seen of Chainsaw Man and I've seen a lot of them! You had me out of breath laughing and smacking my table throughout most of this video love it!! ❤
I didn't cry at my Grandpa's funeral and I haven't cried for his death once so far which made me feel terrible as I was the only one at the funeral not crying but I did cry once (yes at the funeral but not because of my Grandpa being dead) when my Dad and his brothers were on the podium talking about him and for the second time in my entire life I saw my father crying with every fibre of his being (the first was when he got the news)
Don't blame yourself for your feelings. It's not something you have control over. It's ok if you didn't feel like crying. Maybe your relationship with him was different than theirs, maybe your emotions were/are bottled up, maybe you don't externalize emotions much. But whatever the case, never blame you for your emotions. Just... Listen to what your emotions say.
I had the exact same feelings in the exact same situation. When my grandpa died I didn't cry at the funeral and wondered if that made me a bad person or a weird person, but my dad crying shocked me to the point where I nearly did (cause he's your average manly man) So, yeah, this comment and that part of the show were extremely relatable
The hotel segment was amazing whenever you see him go up the stairs to go a higher floor and he comes up from a lower floor they just see him and go. Huh....Well fuck.
I should point out that in Japan the age of consent is 15. So legally speaking over there what Himeno did to Denji is acceptable, still messed up as all hell, but she didn’t actually break the law(the comment in the morning after scene was in reference to molestation as you correctly summarized)
To my understanding, age of consent means a minor age above 15 yo can consent to sex with another minor, not with an adult. Adult hooking up with a 'consent' minor is still illegal Hence why Himeno herself said she could be in jail if sth had happened that night, emphasis on her phrasing of "with minors"
Yeah you're right. It's a common misunderstanding but age of consent talks about when teens can have sex with other teens. In all first world countries it's illegal for anyone over the age of 18 to have sex with someone below the age regardless of the age of consent.@@kullaratt.9336
Day 4 of asking you to watch blue period, it’s a really cool anime about a guy who’s never been interested in art finding out how he can learn it and eventually meeting other artists and working to get into art school, it’s got drama trauma and a hint of romance Danny do it!
Danny Motta I absolutely loved the the adventures of sonic the hedgehog reference you made there! I like Sonic too! Your videos are always so fun! And you are very very cool too! I hope you enjoy the rest of your week! Thank you for always making my day with your videos!😁!
I think this was only in the rus dub (honestly not even sure it was, maybe my mind is just making shit up) but after Kobeni tried apologize to Denji she goes something like "am i really trying to apologize for trying to murder him?" and i don't know why but i loved it. Update: that line was in the sub as well, so yeah i think that was a really good moment for Kobeni
Bro, I love episode 1’s design of Denji so damn much. He looks so fucking rad and I love him more than his actually design for the show. Idk what it is exactly, but he looks so much better pre-chainsaw man powers.
Your reaction to this Anime is exactly what mine was when I watched it. It's absolutely the most incredible Anime I've seen in a long time... If not ever. Seeing these snippets again is truly making me question Bungou Stray Dogs being number 1. It's almost like my loyalty to Stray Dogs, preventing me from fully admitting it lol
I don't think we're going to get a season 2 or any new content for Chainsaw Man for the foreseeable future since MAPPA is packed with shows to animate, also the working conditions have been far from decent for their employees for quite a while now and if that continues, it's highly likely it might lead to the downfall of the studio.
This was the first anime that made want to read the manga mostly because I didn't want to get spoiled I just recently got the last five volumes and finished reading the manga and its SOOO good I can't wait for the movie for the next arc to come out and you react to it because a lot of crazy stuff happens
