Cultural assimilation and melting can definitely be an interesting mechanic although bare in mind with the pretty confirmed pop system I think if anything we will see assimilation instead of hybrid cultures

Formable are a weird one for the ranking since even end tags can switch culture groups, so honestly including them or not including them is a debate on its own.

@@LemonCake101 fair enough, although I feel like if you're including things like English/British reforms from missions that are associated with the one obvious tag associated with that culture group, then it would probably be fair to assume an individual culture within a group if the tag associated with it is head and shoulders obviously better than your other options.

@@boulderfrogboulderfrog6512 I mean I did say in the disclaimers; my cutoff point is basically 'is there another type of tag you play in the area' and for Baltic there is Livonian and Lithuanian cultures hence two. Is it arbitrary? Yes, but I have to pick a type and try and be as consistent as possible with it.

I am honestly assuming a culture assimilation mechanic similar to say Imperator Rome, but remember my guess is as good as yours.

I'm not sure about universal assimilation, but I assume some melting pots, migration, etc will happen. Also, smaller minorities are just gonna get ignored, only the dozen or so most prominent cultures will get a pop. Everyone else is invisible to the state.

That's true to be fair, its a neat ability but very... fringe.

I mean the first thing that comes to mind is Mughal assimilation, they can have literally every culture accepted.

I mean the issue is an Isabella event or American culture getting a +10% nat tax event for 10 years is in the grand scheme of things honestly not enough to move you up a tier. Especially when half of those have tag requirements too.

@@LemonCake101 I was somehow convinced that being Iberian culture group increased the weight on Talented and Ambitious Daughter -_- Maybe it's some other good female-themed pulsing event and I didn't make it up. But I think cultures do sometimes change little things like that, you see those things browsing through events. Not saying it should've been in this video and would've changed a tier, just that it would've been nice to have a wiki article about it

Basically the idea is 'how good is HAVING x as your primary culture is': so I guess difficulty of switch isn't considered. To address your point though, I don't value a Horde flip that much, its quite a niche ability and a lot of the time you are better of just starting as a Horde.

Yeah, army costs do add up after all. But yes, the proximity and access to English channel is part of the premium real estate I refer to.

Controlling the whole group only matters for one age objective, or really obscure missions, so I would like to think its not really that relevant in the grand scheme of things.

@@LemonCake101 well, if we're ranking them based off the dev amount (among other things) you should consider how hard it is to access that dev. dev outside my borders is dev that isnt helping me. im not saying that germany is no longer S tier, but that some of the lower ones can be placed a bit higher since you can get all of the dev a lot faster. except the native american ones since theyre still incredibly bad.

@@nathaniel1207 True, but dev outside of your borders is dev you can conquer easier, since accepted cultures core faster have less unrest etc, so it kind of does help you outside your borders in that sense.

@@LemonCake101 i guess. i was thinking of what would make me choose to play a nation of a culture group. i love austrian and prussian missions and buffs, but playing in the HRE is deeply frustrating. so i tend to steer away from doing multiple german nations in a row

@@nathaniel1207 that's very fair: content based on missions and general game feel though is very different to culture groups, and I was trying to rank them in terms of their power level based on those things alone.

Oh fair, the gold mine locations are more of an afterthought to be fair: As for the Tibet horde trick, its cool, but in practise I don't see myself using it since if you want to play a Horde, you can just start as one most of the time. It is useful for more exploity stuff for sure though.

That's fair: I did consider in the planning but I don't think they are impactful enough to move anyone around. At best, they give you naval buffs which overall are still pretty irrelevant.

I mean: I don't think Iroquois is a goal in terms of formables, unless you are playing a native American. Otherwise pretty much, I mean I am not sure why you would want to form things like Kitara or Gazikumukh though.

I mostly mentioned the things I did because they went unmentioned, even if they wouldn't actually change the overall ranking. If other culture-groups get their formables mentioned, I felt it only fair that others did as well, regardless of their strength (although Nubia is pretty good). For Circassia and Gazikumukh, it just felt odd that they got left out and made it seem like the Caucasian group only included Armenia and Georgia.

@@Elfangor567 I mean in fairness when it comes to lists like this it does come to down to personal preference: I know I have played an Ireland game where I didn't form GB for example, and it also comes down to the fact that for example regarding Gazikumukh I was not aware they where a formable.

@@LemonCake101 my hopes are that project caesar makes them interesting Which I think is one of the reasons for the earlier start date, giving the new world time to be on their own without constantly worrying that you're just preparing for the inevitable arrival of the europeans

@@gafeleon9032 Honestly I am a bit worried for the new world in terms of content. It may end up with 'more time to prep' but I can also very easily see a world where instead of AFKing for 50 years waiting for Europeans to arrive, you now have to AFK for 150 years instead.

@@LemonCake101 Not always, but it's frequently useful (common way to get Eat Your Greens for example, which is still a top 2-3 achievement in terms of difficulty), and AFAIK it's the only way for a non-tribal government to attain it.

@@TheMelnTeam I guess that is a shout for eat your greens if you really want to go for it with a Horde, that's fair. I don't think there are other ways of becoming a real horde to be fair, Mongol Empire does reset you back to a Horde if you lose it on the way but yeah there's not many ways.

I believe that is Armenian tag/missions, which are insanely strong for sure, but if you are playing Georgia or something else in that group (granted there isn't much) you aren't getting those buffs.

@mj405 now it is 1, before in the first patch it was 2, also you need to complete 3 missiona for nobility which is roughly 15-20 y max, and if you can maximize your reform progress growth you can unlock military gov reforms quit quickly. I'm crapp6 player but I was able to do it around 1550s. So more experienced players can do it way early

Ok I will be honest here this shows my lack of knowledge I was not aware that Vietnam could sinosize to be fully honest that’s on me. I did play them ages ago and AFAIK that was not an option back then. That’s on me, and that ability bumps them up quite a few tiers.

I mean yes, but that is incredibly specific, and is more of a buff to the Angevin Empire and less of a buff for the culture group itself.

@@LemonCake101 I mean since you are Orthodox, you should be able to get it by 1500 with PWCR and if you delay, Poland and the Balkans usually has a crazy amount of dev which means its kind of worth it IMO. You're only going to dev post 1550 as Russia anyway because its p much inefficient to dev with Tsardom as Russian Empire gets the dev cost.

That's fair enough I guess, although in practice I find colonial tags tend to hold on to their colonies pretty much always, so I find conquest of those is always done by nicking it from Portugal for example.

@@LemonCake101 on the upside, tanistry is just an upgraded elective monarchy, with its additional morale damage bonus. Forming ireland aswell gives you a unique parliament (although, it's effectively the exact same as a regular parliament with a unique name)

Thing with colonization, is if you kill natives you can get it to primary culture, so that is a nock down in my opinion from that. But yeah, their trade node is quite nice overall, and to be fair the uncolonized provinces should have been considered, for sure.

Latin doesn't deserve S tier. Malay does, however. Has 50% more dev than latin and sits on some of the most valueable trade goods in this game. There's even 3 coal provinces in there for good measure - 3x as many as the latin group.

Sorry if I already responded to this, I typed a response and I think RU-vid ate it. If this isn't a double post: Well, do you want those changes? No really. This hard nerfs England for example, meaning their optimal play becomes 'go Celtic' every single game. Ottomans are hard nerfed and have a lot less reason to go into Arabia, so their best bet is basically 'open Italy'. As for lategame tags getting culture conversion, with how culture conversion works in Eu4, that seems very bandaid solution wise.

about grouping turkmeni, azarbaijani, and turkish i think it'll not good idea. if you talk about language yes they speak relative languages but if you talk about culture they have not too much common things. i mean turks' food, azarbaijani food, turkmeni foods are different, their costumes are different, their histories are different, their phenotypes are different, their behaviors are different, their songs, their music instruments are different, their legends, folk tales are different. even they have common things it is because influecing from another culture specially farsi culture.

I see it, but my issue is every Slavic Campaign isn't always a Muscovy Campaign, and while you can pick all those up, its quite a bit of effort compared to China/Germany just starting with those.

@@LemonCake101 Albanian is not South Slavic in real life (they are their own culture by language), but they're in the same Culture Group as other South Slavic cultures because of pragmatic reasons (because having a separate Culture Group for 3 provinces totaling 15 development is really silly). But that aside, the primary reason I brought it up is because Albanians have a really long standing beef with South Slavs, or rather Serbians and Macedonians (a Bulgarian/Serbian hybrid people), and by beef I mean mutual slaughter and discrimination/assimilation (depends on how you look at it, mostly perpetuated by Serbians/Yugoslavs during Yugoslavia). Most Albanians would object to being a representative of South Slavs (the people who were responsible for a lot of their suffering), and most Serbs/Macedonians would object to being represented by the Albanian flag, due to their own issues with them, particularly concerning Kosovo and Eastern Macedonia, where a lot of Albanians live, and where a lot of separatist sentiment is present, with Kosovo already being a fully independent and sovereign, but semi-recognized, country. Apologizes if you were already aware of the history, but I am just trying to warn you of the potential emotions you might stir with something like this, and whatever angry comments and hurtful words that may follow.
