I still have my grandad’s shaving mug. It’s a heavy ceramic mug from Old Spice that he probably got for Christmas long ago with a cake of shaving soap and a brush.

A lot of those swaps mean it’s easier traveling, too. When you are bringing shampoo/body soap/conditioner/lotion bars instead of the liquids, you’ve massively reduced the TSA bagged liquids. Also, almost all the products can very easily be made at home too.

Just found your channel. I was enjoying it until I saw the kitty in your arms grooming. Then I really got interested. Thanks for all the great info in a nice comfortable presentation. Gotta love the kitty.

God damnit. Corporate acquisitions are the worst. They'll probably run an analysis and decide that all the plastic free products have to low of a profit margin and slash the offerings

I like to joke that I don’t use shampoo, and that I use real poo instead of, also saying that I never settle for a sham. Anyway I actually use bar shampoo, conditioner, soap, and dish soap. I have toothpaste tabs, but I also have several tubes of toothpaste left over from my ex. I am trying to use those up before I completely switch to the tabs; because, throwing things away before their usefulness is used up isn’t really sustainable. I use a bamboo toothbrush and native detergent. I carpool to work and ride my bicycle with a trailer to get anywhere in town. I have started a chemical free community garden in my apartment complex. I use silicone baking sheets. I use powdered laundry detergent. I mow grass using a push reel mower. I cut stubborn grass with a weed wacker, a form of sickle. I even have a solar cooker for cooking on certain occasions. I only use rechargeable batteries. I use leftover dishwater to water the garden. I have four tumble composters set up around the complex. I patch my clothes and those of my neighbors, so they can wear them longer. Do you have any other suggestions on what I could do to improve?

Great tips, Jacob. Another option for deodorant is to go deodorant free. After several weeks, the microbiome in your armpits stabilizes and you don't get a foul body odour. It becomes a natural odour after exertion -- I promise!

I don’t get why everyone makes these. Like how many people can make a version of this video before we realize that some people just won’t choose certain plastic free alternatives and it’s not usually because they don’t know about them but because most people shop regular brands at regular stores. Maybe you and all these others could make a video on how to email the plastic-using brands and beg them to please get rid of their plastic. That might actually make a difference and save everyone money because…. It’s up to the brands to divorce plastic. Some of these things like the toilet paper isn’t a cheap option for some of us that choose cheap and readily available.

This is why I think organized labor is so important. If one consumer at a time is making swaps and sending emails, it's not super strong. But if manufacturing and retail workers that create and sell these products were organized, they could make demands of the brands to make their products more sustainable. Especially in packaging and manufacturing, it would probably make people's jobs safer and less toxic, too.
