Love your Pokémon Anime guides bro! BW era sucked for the anime imo. For one, Ash and Pikachu got a "reset", Ash acting really dumb at times here and Pikachu getting K.O'd by a lvl 5 Snivy(this is the same Pikachu who tied/defeated a Latios, a legendary in the Sinnoh league not that long before BW started. Iris was annoying at times but she was similar to Misty who was annoying but grew on me as the show went on. Another tie with Iris/Misty was Iris wanting to be a Dragon Master, Misty wanted to be Master of Water Pokémon. Iris's team was pretty decent though, her Anew was adorable and powerful for a first form, Excadrill was her secret ace for BW, very strong in battle, albeit disobedient at first, Emolga was mischievous but loved her sisterly bond with Ash's Snivy, and then there's her power house of a Dragonite. I remember the community raged when she got him but luckily it wasn't obedient at first and needed time to warm up to Iris, but he did, he was her strongest pokemon. Cilan was okay as well. He had a campiness to him and a very likable personality. He was basically the new Brock but his team was garbage. Pansage was cute but wish he evolved it into Samisage(this grass monkey is cool), Stunfisk was...meh and Crustle was there, his team was so underwhelming compared to Brock's rosters throughout the Gen 1-4 animes. Ash got done dirty in this region's league and I'm sure it must've p*ssed off those who loved his performance in the Sinnoh League.
This era gets a lot of hate. But the villain arcs and ash trying a team with more than 6 are refreshing twists. LVL 5 Snivy V Pikachu will live in infamy
the video is two hours long so the original cut of the audio was probably almost double. that’s a lot of audio to edit! mistakes happen, and i know from experience that it’s super easy to miss alternate takes of lines once in a while. i cant imagine how much time this series has taken him, especially if he’s doing it all on his own:)
I think I speak for a lot of people here, and I want to say thank you for all the time and effort you have been putting into these. It has been so much fun watching these and I can’t wait for the others ❤
It makes sense for the movie where Ash teams up with Zekrom to be the "canon" version of the two, because Zekrom represents ideals, and Ash is as idealistic as they come.
This has to be the most forgiving or optimistic take on Ash’s Unova journey I have heard. The most I hear what others say about this section of the anime series was mostly negative. Kinda refreshing to hear or point out the positives.
I give him credit for it cause he’d sure as heck do a better job then me. It’s generally hard for me to overlook the fact that as an overall character ash kinda degenerates in the unova area, at least when it comes to his battling and I’d imagine it’s the same for others.
My biggest complaint is them rebooting the show in a sense. Ash is 10 (despite the show mentioning him being on his journey for more than a year+), Ash seemingly forgets type advantages and strategy at the beginning, doesn't remember how to actually catch wild Pokemon, etc. It's even more upsetting when he still remembers his past adventures and they even mention moments from earlier regions.
@@swarley39I will never understand why they’re doing this, I mean I understand, but it’s so stupid, games have new characters anyway, there’s literally no downside to have ash normally progress, it only creates weird plot moments that bring down the overall story, and imo the anime is suffering the same fate as games, fans really deserve better than this.
What I can gather is that Ash's Unova Journey while taken on its own is actually very entertaining. Ash's team has some strong growth and he catches more Pokemon that he usually does in other series. The focused storytelling also really helped avoid the long drag of Sinnoh, which while was great for character building and attachment, was terrible for wanting to see Ash get his badges and compete in the league. Additionally, the after journey seemed just as good. The drawback seems to be Ash really seemed reset back to his original personality from back at original journey episode one. Losing to new trainers, not using the clever strategies he had learned throughout Diamond and Pearl, and once again not using any of his old pokemon in any form. It felt like a huge step back for his character instead of a step forward. The companions were interesting in their own right because of their new dynamics. Finally: Fun fact I play and extra in this season of Pokemon, as the Rocket Grunt who gives Jessie and James the Suitcase in The Trubbish Squad. It was a really fun experience.
This was when I stopped watching the Pokémon anime, so everything from here on out this is completely new to me which is exciting. I'm always happy to see when a new episode of this series pops up because I know it's gonna be a good watch.
There's so much Pokemon I've never seen because I fell off after Kids WB came to an end but love the job you've done with watching all these episodes from the anime and giving your thoughts on them. As a kid, I remember watching new episodes of the show as late as 2005-2006 or so. Cheers, Jordan!
The weird approach to arcs was more a necessity of real life tragedy than a deliberate creative decision. During the first season it was building up to a Team Rocket vs Team Plasma arc with the TRio stealing the meteorite but there was a huge earthquake in Japan and earthquakes were part of the storyline so it was scrapped. The episode preceding it was later in the dub order. Fun fact, we haven’t seen Earthquake or its variants used in the anime since the end of the Orange Islands.
The Black and White era was one of my favorite of the anime series. It included several episodes or series of episodes that i really enjoyed. Thank you Jordan for all you do for the community! These videos are so enjoyable to watch and relax to.
I tried watching Best Wishes right after marathoning XY&Z, which I adored. I had to stop at the first gym, because it was so frustrating how contrived the battle results were. This'll be an interesting listen.
I tried watching XYZ but I just couldn't do it (I didn't like Serena, I didn't like how Ash became a pseudo-shonen wannabe MC or how Greninja was always stealing the show) so in the end I only watched the Korrina arc, the league (Lol) and team Flare arc.
12:00 There lays the best Ash mon of this series... Sandile. Be still my heart. Such an awesome callback to Squirtle that only ends up upstaging both the OG Water type and even Sceptile for coolness factor with an endearing personality and a rare trait of wanting to be Pikachu's rival.
Some may disagree but I really like what they did with Team Rocket with the generation of the anime. They’re still goofy but way more intimidating and successful at what they do this time around which in turn makes there appearance in this series all more exciting.
AKA, the mini-reboot! You can tell this was scheduled to be one at some point early in development. It also introduces to the biggest mystery of any of the Pokemon anime seasons: where the heck are Iris' parents? She doesn't talk about them, she apperantly loves to interact to Pokemon like she's tarzan, like...is she an orphan? Are they dead, what?
@@mesousagaby740 You are right! The game and anime lore don’t match up most of the time, so it could be a completely different story. I like your Tarzan comparison so that’s my new headcannon!
Ill say it, and Im not sure how many people will agree. I didnt like the Black and White part of the anime. I would even go far as to saying I heavily dislike it. It was my least favorite and I always skip it when I re watched the anime. But just because it's my least favorite does not mean that I was gonna miss out on this video. I love your pokemon videos and I cannot wait for Kalos which next to Sinnoh is one of my favorites.
This has been yet another fantastic addition to this series you're making, and I'm so excited to be a part of it! I also very much appreciate the coverage of Ash's journey as someone who's hardly watched the anime since gen2. It's a lot of fun seeing how everything has played out since then.
Jessie and James being serious was disappointing but Meowth's arc was really neat and his reveal of the plot is kind of epic (despite being predictable). Pikachu looked straight up ready to murder him, and I'm sad that didn't come back. I wonder if anything would have been revisisted in the Rocket vs Plasma special.
@@ridensroom6957 That doesn't excuse it since they could have just let one of Ash's companions do the dex evaluation since..I dunno they're not native from the previous gens instead of insulting the intelligence of long-time fans.
I never made it to the N episodes in this generation, and man, I'm kinda bummed about it. I'm not a fan of N in the games, but this N seems WAY more interesting.
Little trivia for the victini movie. Golurk was shiny in one version while a hydreigon was shiny in the other. Both were released in events tied to buying a movie ticket.
This series gets shat on a lot cause of Pikachu losing to Snivy and Ash's very weird "forgets basic shit" quirk very early on (both of which are dumb granted) but overall I always liked tge BW anime. My favorite parts are all the rivals and those side tournaments. Love seeing Iris and Cilan have their own foils in Georgia and Burgundy.
I can't rock with it because his team is overall quite weak and their move pools aren't very good. His Unfezant never even learned Aerial Ace until it fully evolved and most of his team is unevolved; I just felt like so much potential was completely wasted
Pokemon BW definitely had some issues, but plenty of fun moments that I was able to enjoy my personal favorite moment was Ash & Team Rocket learning why they couldn't be controlled by the Beheeyem.
This is hands down THE BEST way to rewatch the series as a busy adult with not enough time to devote to a full rewatch. I have been hitting refresh on your channel for so long waiting for my next dosage of needed nostalgia lol.
Unova is when I first fell off from Pokémon, with Diamond/Pearl being a series that I really loved and me just hitting that age where I wasn’t as interested in Pokémon. Funny enough though right as Unova finished up though I decided to get Black 2 and it sucked me right back in. So the Unova anime is small dark zone of Pokémon that I kinda just skipped over somewhat haha
These videos have been great. I stopped watching seriously around when Hoenn started and this series has really made me regret that. Thank you for making this and putting so much work into it, it really shows.
I love B&W, probably my 2nd fav Pokémon series after Sun and Moon. They really refined a lot of the formula here, with just a slight well done change in the normal story structure.
Quite possibly my least favorite thing about this season of the anime is that Ash’s final gym battle wasn’t Iris/Drayden, a potential emotionally resonant battle, and instead he fights Roxie who was just shoved in for Black and White 2 promotion
I didn't like the BW series but did like the Meloetta and N arc and Charizard returning but most of Ash's pokemon in the BW were disappointing and I had so much hope for Snivy but it fell flat. But on the positive note the series finally show cased the move attract. Love the Emolga bits and her rivalry with Snivy.
I have loved these so much! These videos r such a perfect way to calm down after a busy day! I would love even more a yugioh version, U TEASED IT AND NOW IM HYPED
This was the point in the show where I slowly fell off of watching, I probably only got halfway through the black and white show so I’m excited for this and the next couple videos to see all of what I missed
ah yes unova or as I like to nickname it "ash ketchum off season". the snivy defeat, the elesa decable and of course his most humiliating loss in league history to a complete idiot thankfully he bounces back and comes back strong where he goes next taking one step closer to his ultimate victory. not that unova didn't have good points the meowth temporarily joined the group story line was pretty well done culminating in the angriest we even see pikachu the little mouse wanted to murder that cat for his betrayal, due to the horrific events of the year this series hit we lost out on team plasma vs team rocket but the plasma arc we got was pretty okay, dawn's return was great even if iris rubbed off on her a little too much plus a proper ecounter between ash and giovanni and giving team rocket a true villian story
MAN, Black & White was such a "1 step forward, one step back" show.....On one hand, we have the great things: new revamped artwork on Ash & the characters, a new male companion who's actually COMPETENT(love when he actually beats Trip in the tournament), Ash having a revolving team w/ reserves in the Box, Team Rocket being competent for a change(this'll be addressed in the cons...), the Battle Club tournaments, the interesting Rivals for each character, etc.....But then we get to the Cons, with resetting Pikachu's powerlevel, the wonky Gyms(some were good, others were....well, ELESA.....WORST GYM BATTLE SINCE THE KANTO DAYS), Ash's team not being too impressive overall in power, Team Rocket REVERTING, THEM NEVER AIRING THE TEAM ROCKET × TEAM PLASMA SPECIALS....!!! (Will never forgive that), Trip bein an underwhelming Rival, CAMERON(WORST FINALS RIVAL EVER), etc.
I just love how the writers didn't even bother hiding the fact that the decolar arc was just a filler arc to pad out the anime until XY were released (while also being a tease for it). The N & Meloatta arcs were the best bits of the BW era.
Hm, while I can understand where people are coming from with this Series, but personally I liked it and thought it was very interesting, You covered this very well, i will look forward to see your coverage of the Next Series.
This series is so good! Thanks for taking the time to go through the ENTIRE series to put these videos together. One thing I would suggest to do as an improvement would be to change the "who's that pokemon" and other commercial segments to whatever they were from that generation. It would help feed into the Nostalgia for that season.
I won't be able to handle the whole Kalos Flashback. This was peak Pokemon for me(Loved the Games, loved Anime, Ash's Team etc.) . Everything fit so perfect and then came Alaine and the League Final... Man still fckn blows to this day.
Joke of the century! But in all seriousness, black and white are my all time favorite games so saying I was eagerly looking forward to this video is an understatement. The last few months have been rough, but your videos helped me a lot. Thank you Jordan and keep up the good work!
I kinda forgot about Ash's Oshawott. But he did feel very close to a character like pikacahu by having his own control to appear and how much focus he has. It is nice, another pokemon getting a lot of time whom isn't pikachu.
So far, the Pokémon anime series on this channel so far is 9 hours and 37 minutes. There’s still 3 more parts to go. So by the time they’re all out. It’ll be even bigger than the 12 hour survivor video. A new record for this channel I feel coming on.
I adore this series SO SO much! Pokémon is my special interest and seeing you channel your love for it into these videos has been a treat and a half. I can't wait for the next one!!!!
this was around the time i stopped watching the anime, as ash just forgetting basic things (things which we've seen him help OTHER TRAINERS WITH) and generally regressing as a character was way too frustrating for me to keep watching, especially after the growth he saw as a trainer in the hoenn and sinnoh seasons. nice that i can finally experience more of the show after having given up on watching it lol
