The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

My personal explanation is that there's been way more than 9 "aedra". We know that elves lost their divinity and immortality over generations, the same is likely true for the races of men. This means that between the time of the Aedra and the races we have now, there's likely been countless gods or godlike beings. This could easily explain why the interpretations of Aedra is so different. If this was true then the Aedric gods we have now is a compilation of generations of godlike beings that's been forgotten, the 9 there's left now is the ones that wasn't forgotten and likely true aedra (aka the ones that took part in the creation, Talos being the exception) - but the way they're interpreted isn't true since they've been given aspects of the forgotten godlike ancestors of the cultures associated with them, and its warped the gods themselves since they mainly get their power from the people worshipping them (this means that if the empire believes auriel to be akatosh then he is akatosh when he responds to them, although he was Auriel first). Edit: to add to this, in this explanation something like Sovngarde is explained as the Aedric realms working like the Daedric ones. They can change it to suit their whims. The difference is that Daedra doesn't get power from worship, so they change it to suit their personal whims and entertain themselves. The Aedra on the other hand changes their realms to suit their worshippers. This means Sovngarde exists in the same Aedric realm as any other afterlife associated with Lorkhan. In the same line of thought Akatosh/Auriel has multiple different realms set up inside his sphere each associated with a different worshipped personality. This makes perfect sense if we assume that worship is the most important thing for an Aedric god. They need to be everything they're worshipped as, thus they need to shape their Aedric realms to suit that need. In short the Aedric gods are literally playing masquarades to keep their "decendants" happy and to stay empowered, if they ever stopped playing any of their assigned roles they'd be weakened substantially since they'd no longer receive worship be it in a positive or negative form (as is the case with Lorkhan).

The Aedra are always forthcoming, they observe, indirectly gift and most importantly: grant redemption to those smart enough to recognize their actual influence over Mundus. Lorkhan granted Nirn mortal life and then divinity to those foolish enough to have tinkered with his heart. Stand assured, they're powerful.

Okay I have a question. What makes Mundus special from the Daedric planes? If you're a god, and you can make your own planes of existence without sacrificing your power. Why would you sacrifice your power and imprison your self in Mundus? Unless there's something special about Mundus. What is the bait for the trap? Also why did Mundus drain power from the Aedra, but the Daedra can make planes without it draining their power?

Recently I've come across a mod on Nexus - I don't recall the name - that introduces ALL of these gods into Skyrim SE. At end of prologue, you get to select a patron God based on your race selection, each one requires certain behaviors to gain favor. Gaining favor increases a single passive bonus (Active Power). At 100% or higher favor you gain a special Lesser Power that costs you favor points. Yes, you can raise your favor over 100%. For instance, I started an Orc who worships Trinimac. I will post the mod name later, when I get home and can look it up.

Stendar is one of my favorite Elder Scrolls gods just because of how his interpretation tells you so much about the culture. To the Nords he's a god of ransom, because that's more merciful than putting prisoners to the death in a culture focussed around raiding. To the elves he's the "apologist" for Men, which tells you a lot about the Aldmeri view on mercy.

I think it's somehwere in-between, as most things are when it comes to legends/myths/rumors and history. Lorkhan probably *_did_* tell them that they would become lesser, but he didn't know just how much lesser, and undersold it, or else they didn't understand how badly it would effect them until they underwent it even if he did. Either way, one faction goes "he warned us this would happen" while the other gets pissy and says "you didn't say it would be like *_this!_*" because now they can feel pain, weakness, etc. It's one thing to be told you'll lost some of your power but have children who can breed - who can by sheer numbers make up for that power over time. It's another to lose so much power that you suddenly feel pain, are tired and need rest, and can't even go to some of the places you used to wander with impunity and enjoyed because now your weaker body cannot even handle the elements. "Being weaker" didn't mean to you then what it does now, because you failed to fully comprehend what it means. Like a child moving out for the first time who forgets to buy a plunger until the day comes that their toilet is clogged, the Aedra were left in a jam because they didn't think about every single possible side-effect.

So I have a few thoughts you might want to look at. First off is the trinimac to malacath debacle. If Boethiah were able to draw trinimacs cotributions to creation out of nirn (or perhaps even revealed there werent any) then he would effectively have philosophically “cosumed him and made his lies known” and subsequently his followers disillusionment with him and acknowledging he was “not their ancestor” or “daedra” made him malacath. His followers who remained true to him and acknowledged him as father in spite of his daedric truth, philosophically “covered theselves with the dung” and became orsimer

Then skyrim came out and I am still playing it which reminded me that oblivion and Morrowind existed o I have played all of them more times than I can count and have read every piece of literature in the books of Tamriel. I got the gist of it. So basically, whatever the mortals worship the most will become the most dominant personality of the god. And when they are in such a personality, what they do does exist. So when Lorkhan was worshipped as Shor, and he did such things as create Sovngarde, that worked, but when he was Lorkhan, we did his crazy stuff. I think the fact of a "Core" or "true" god makes sense, to make these contradictions. Which means maybe these gods that we worship, aren't even close to what they actually are. They're just whatever is closest. If this is the case, I believe a game that tells you, or shows you the most primordial form of a god, would be insane, as it would tell you who they really are, and not a front they put up.

The power of the Aedra was not destroyed, it has been transformed into Mundus and the people and beasts in it. People can exert the power of the Aedra through the combined worship of them.
@mike-0451
@mike-0451 Год назад
That still doesn’t explain the being of all beings, including the daedra. The being of the mortal races and the aedra are the same, even if you might say that men were “created” by the aedra. It is the case that all beings owe their existence to existence as such, which surpasses all things by being their innermost self and absolutely beyond them. Existence itself (being) has already accomplished itself and needs nothing other than itself; so the question becomes this: what are beings then if being needs nothing of us to be what it is? The answer is love. Only love can go without reason or need. Only love is purely positive, needing no reaction because it is a gift.
@jakeand9020
@jakeand9020 5 лет назад
It's not really that complicated IF you can grasp that, for the Aedra, time is not linear as perceived by mortals. So, the same Aedra can be two beings at the same time, as mortals consider it, but if time is not linear than it wouldn't be the "same" time at all, or, perhaps, ALL time is the "same." Either way, the important thing is time is different for Aedra, thus they do not fall into the limitations linear time imposes on mortals. In this way, the Aedra could be more powerful than the Daedra. In short, the Daedra are "trapped" in linear time, while the Aedra are not. This is evident in that (no way I'm spelling it right now) the Daedric guy of knowledge dose not know the secret of the Skaal until AFTER the Dragonborn gets him access to it. Also, there is evidence that the Aedra can determine the future while Daedra cannot.

After watching all this, if anyone in-universe wanted to know "how thinks actually are" then one must try and ask the Daedra or the being the left part way through the world-creation process. I feel there is another set of being that likely we're there but didn't destroy themselves (fully) or are just talking advantage of the new real estate and new sources of power (worship, politics, knowledge, etc.)

Probably the best comparison you could've made is Greek vs Roman pantheons - it's not *quite* as complicated... but it's definitely a similar idea - they're the same core beings, but the specific personalities differ depending on whose belief is more widespread.

The Gods take on the form and personality of how people worship them as a way to gain credit for their deeds. If they do not get credit, they do not get worship... and that means they don't get power, and their influence will falter. It really isn't that they have multiple personalities, they just fill a role. They take on a form that will be recognized.

TES has such fantastic lore, imagine if they could use it to actually write a fantastic main quest.

What if instead of multiple personalities, what if theyre all true because each version is a part of a large family, auriel is the elder of akatosh as his older brother etc.

Maybe the belief in Sovengard made Sovengard. The worship and belief of the people empower and bring that thing into reality.

Do followers of those faiths violate the uncounscious aedra by forcing them to take on their prefered version of them?

If the Aedra took part in the creation of Mundus, does that make Talos a Daedra?

curious as to what everyone's opinion is, when asked about the Dawnguard priest. The one who believes Arkay speaks to him. I want to know if you believe he does speak with Arkay

🤔🤔🤔🤔 well maybe the souls goes too what it recognises for example you play as a Dragonborn and although you play as let’s say a high elf but Alduin sees only Sovengaurd (sorry if I misspelt that) so in order to kill him you need to go too the aspect off the afterlife that is sovengaurd. Like me am a heathen I will go to Valhalla when am dead but a Christian will go too heaven but our Gods are one in the same just I would see Valhalla as something that makes me feel more at ease, if I died and woke up at the pearly gates I would freak out and feel that Odin promise off Valhalla was false and so would would a Christian if they woke up in Valhalla. So the universe would give us what makes feel more at ease if you get me?

So basically the elves are dualists. Sithis is a Satan-like character to them while man sees him as being a good (necessary) force worthy of respect. Elves are dualists/magians and men are non-dualists

I really think you should get into Religious comparison, you can tell from this video that your brain works really well for the abstract, which is fucking awesome! I think you would be really good at understanding the abstract mythologies of ancient religions! Also think you would love it! I aint saying go be a massive religious bloke, fuck that! haha But yeah, i just got your part mentioning split, and if you can understand the depths of that and how it links to religion and pantheons of gods, you would make the best youtube channel for religions! Keep up the good work man!
