The nosing glass looked to be the best although I am going order some Riedel Spirits glasses.Glass thickness is ultra important for wine brandy cognac etc so it's hard to think that's somehow not important for whiskey. Compared to even my low end wine glasses the Glencairn is super thick. The design is nice and traps alcohol nicely. Look forward to more reviews
Great quality whisky is great from any glass... I use only old style crystal lowball glasses and never have difficulties in identification of all the aroma components. In reality different glasses are just different traditions... Nothing more but nothing less! Cheers!
Brooooo!!! You know your shit! 😂 Lol! I didn’t realize there’s a serious etiquette on all of those whiskey glasses? Lol! I’m learning something new everyday man! Keep going what you do bro! I love this video! Let’s goooo! 👏🏾🤘🏾😂✨
As a beginner I really appreciate a video like this. It really helps me and gives some guidance. I saw the NEAT glass at my local liquor store and will pick it up soon. When I do nose from a Glencairn glass right now the alcohol does burn. Seems like the glasses I got from the Chive are rocks glasses. oh well. Again Thanks for this video.
No problem! I appreciate you watching. The NEAT glass is a really cool glass, especially with higher proof whiskeys. Let me know how you like it! Cheers!🥃
Hey! Thanks so much for watching the video. Really appreciate the kind of words. Honestly life just got too busy to keep up on it. Whiskey reviews and the whiskey videos Were some of my favorite things and I loved interacting with the whiskey community. My wife and I had another Child and I recently got a new job that has been a lot more intensive. I am hoping to one day be able to get back to it but but if I do it would just be Making videos when I have time. my love for whiskey and the community hasn't stopped. I still watch all the guys and girls all the time!
I can see you have been hit hard with the Whiskey bug! All of a sudden you probably look back at your bar and can't believe you have so many bottle! Yup thats what happened to me... :) Thanks for posting these videos. Oh Yeah..........Glencairn is my fav
For the record that is not a true copita. That is the Amazon/spanish Copita. The official Glencairin Copita that is used by master distillers all over Scotland like Jim Macewan and Richard Paterson is a similar shape to the basic Glencairin yes, but it does not bulb as dramatically and the mouth of the glass does not flare out at the end like the Glencairn. This concentrates the vapors even further and increases the potency of certain smells. If I did not know the difference I would have gotten vibe from this video that they're the same thing, but one has a stem, when in fact the same spirit will smell distinctly sharper and more defined in one glass. The copita is definitely not a starter glass. Other than that detail, great video dude!
You have missed ONE critical factor in the Glencairn. Its bulb takes exactly 60 ml. Lay it on its side and the whisky remains in the bulb. Roll the glass, and it will move in an arc around its heavy base. There is NO SPILLAGE of whisky!
Well hell, what happened to the old fashioned heavy based tumbler rocks glass? mixed drinks?I dont need a note. I know what good bourbon/whiskey smells like. I just need a frickin glass, to drink my drink.i dont smell, or spill. Dont need that other crap, just a good ol fashioned glass for drinking.
Just got some glencairn and a snifter glass. Always heard a glencairn works best with some single malt scotch but I want to try them with bourbon and rye. The snifter works good with beer too like eisbocks imperial stouts more heavier types of beer which is why I got it because I love beer too but I'm curious how it works with whiskey since it is more of a brandy cognac glass.
I’m confused, you said that on the wider opening whiskey glasses that it doesn’t shove as much alcohol vapor into your nose and would allow you to pick up on the subtle notes from the spirit, but then said that you would never want to use the rocks glass to get the notes of the whiskey, even though it has the widest mouth of all the glasses. Does the straight walls of the other glasses have some magic effect on the way the aromas get released? Not trying to be snarky, just honestly curious.
The short answer for me is yes. Depends on the person but for comparison between and rocks and Canadian whiskey glass I tend to get more aroma out of the latter due to the bulb and curve of the glass. I use a rocks Glass more often at the end of the night when I'm just sipping not thinking. If I want to try to analyze the whiskey just a little I usually go for the Canadian. I think the bulb kf the glass and rounder shape can enhance the aroma as compared to a rocks. Just my opinion tho
Thanks for this video. How do you like the Kentucky Bourbon Trail glass? I'm considering it over the Glencairn due to the fact that it is not crystal and is machine washable....
I myself drink all high proof stuff out of a Glencairn. It just gives me overall the best of what the whiskey has to offer compared to others I've tried
@@Bourbinsane hopefully before a year passes we'll be able to export our own. I will keep your channel in mind when we need honest reviews. Would you say the first 2 glasses are good for high grade alcohols?
Great vid! So, the Canadian Glencairn glass is meant for a rock(s). I’m a Canadian so I’m allowed to say that Canadian whisky, in general, is not great (it’s getting much better). I guess the idea is that with a rock it dilutes the whisky a bit and makes it more palatable. I use those sometime with an ice sphere.
Juvale Set of 4 Brandy Snifter Glasses for Whiskey, Short Stem Wine Glass Set for Bourbon, Cognac, Brandy (13oz) a.co/d/6JsiVtu This is what I use for snifter glasses. For conac, brandy, etc
@@Bourbinsane I like it. It seems like it goes down easier because by the time it hits my lips, I've already inhaled it for 3 or 4 seconds. Because of the curve of the glass my nose is in before my mouth.
Yup, this was addressed in a previous comment. Corrected in the description, but cant alter the video unfortunately. I was always an awful speller! Thx for watching! Cheers!
Ya I need to pick those up too. I have some Aged & Ore duo glasses which are similar and I talked about those during my whiskey glass live stream. Cheers buddy!
@@6977mixman absolutely agree. I dont have the tumbler but as far as the glass goes I prefer to use it for cocktails than neat personally but it is a nice glass for sure!
Thanks anyway! I’m looking for something with a little character which is why I liked the subtle indentations of the ones on the video! Take care and keep up the good work!
Bourbinsane with such high proof drink it pushes overpowering alcohol vapour to the top. It works with wine because wine is only 12% and the vapour is carrying the aromas without burning your nose. With whiskey, maybe roll the glass but don’t go swirling it roughly.
also look at this one...quite nice too, larger bulb than glencairn, slightly more volume/ gourmetwarehouse.ca/glendale-tasting-whisky-glass-6-5oz/ i have this and the glencairn...i'm now seeking for a nice classic tumbler for whiskey sampling. love the waterford but $$$ ...this one from riedel is nice too gourmetwarehouse.ca/spey-whisky-tumbler-set-of-2/ there is analyzing whiskey and then there is enjoying whiskey. i am hoping to get a glass that can allow for both. bottom line to your video did you actually do a side by side comparison with the whiskeys in each one? that is what counts the most
Somehow missed this comment, I apologize, yes I did taste them all side by side during one of my Live Streams. I will definetly check out those glasses you linked too! Cheers!
instead of sitting there opening all in the video, why not just go over each of them instead. What a bloated way to keep the video longer than necessary
It is Glencairn Glass--not Glencarin [sic] as your pop-up and your pronunciation indicate. Also, the shape of the Neat Glass is not "very unique." There are no degrees to unique. It is either one-of-a-kind or it is not.
In humans 80% of taste comes from smell.. if you don’t want to taste something, then just chug it down and don’t smell it, but if you want to taste something and really experience it then sniff and smell it.
The first 2 are for mixed drinks, the 3rd is a neat glass, the 4th is useless, and 5th is a novelty, the 6th is too large for neat and too small for mixed, the last is ok, it can double as a wine glass, if that's what rocks your boat. There are good neat glasses out there besides the Glencairn, but these are not it.
I always thought the NEAT glass is actually used in some tasting competitions, while Copita/ISO glass is what used in Whisky blending labs (and can be cheaper due to greater proliferation in second hand)? How do they taste for Bourbon, Scotch (namely Islay), and Irish respectively?
