I think people that call this one of the worst shows of all time haven't seen much television, it's nowhere near as awful as the likes of say The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer or My Mother the Car. I honestly have a soft spot for this show for how deranged it is. I can say plenty of good things about it, for me it's combination of live-action and animation was done pretty well and most of the voice-acting was solid enough, the most bizarre thing about the show to me was why Craig and Robin were suddenly recast as a completely different nationality, made no sense to me and i felt like their new actors weren't as good and they stuck out like a sore thumb considering everyone else from Re-Animated reprised their roles. There were some legit funny moments and as someone who does enjoy the tween-coms on Disney Channel and Nick this show is right up my alley. Team Toon had a similar concept and aired on CN UK but was only ever seen in the U.S. on Netflix and after it got removed from there it was considered lost media until I actually managed to find all the episodes(someone in the UK was kind enough to grab them for me).
for me the most interesting thing was the stuff about the ad boycotts where did you find that info. i heard the execs didnt even want to do CN real but they needed new content for the fall lineup since several animated shows were ending.
On paper, Out of Jimmy’s Head had a decent premise, but its execution left a lot to be desired. One way I think the show could have worked would be if Jimmy was able to see the cartoon characters thanks to him being a descendant of a famous cartoonist instead of him literally having the brain of one.
I think the show also could've broken that rule by having the other characters interact with the cartoons for the sake of a gag or joke that never acknowledges how the other humans can interact with them.
The movie said they saved his ‘personality gland’ I’m no biologist, but I’m pretty sure there’s no such thing (and if it is, it’s probably called something else)
@@akganimationstudioproducti3779Fun fact: Google says there IS a gland in the brain called the pituitary gland that's located in the frontal lobe, the area of the brain known for controlling personality. The gland is apparently known for affecting things like hormones, which can affect your emotions. So, the movie was kind of on point in terms of the brain works, at least in surface level.
Cartoon network really pushing this series as the next big thing and their attempts to compete with nick and Disney in the live action market really were interesting times. The late 2000s cn was wild
And also a dark age for them. They lost their soul and original selves trying to beat Nick and Disney at their own game when they could've stayed on top by making good animated programming like they have then and now.
There was also Team Toon which despite being made in the USA only ever aired on TV in the UK on CN UK, it was on Netflix in the U.S. for a few years but was lost after it got removed from there so I had to track down the episodes myself.
I distinctly remember my local fun center having a large plush of the alligator character from this show, that hung from the ceiling next to the indoor playground. It’s the only thing that stuck with me about this show.
Sometimes I think this show and movie would of work if they took a page note from "Who frame Roger Rabbit?", where the cartoon characters co-exist with real people. Jimmy is still a middle school kid who get bullied and belittle by his peers, but dreams of become a famous director/actor while working with his favorite cartoon actors. Appleday Pictures is having a power struggle between Sonny and Golly Gopher each of them wants to run the studio differently and Jimmy gets involved with it after a situation happen.
It's like the network was so embarrassed by it's complete failure that any physical copy of it is a rare find because why produce copies of a show that failed hardcore for you.
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 It'll be nice to know what the full series was like but till someone finds every bit of footage of OOJH the clips we have are going to be it.
There was this toxic friendship in the show that the writers could have addressed better as a little explanation in my example Jimmy is meant to been seen as selfish for abandoning Craig in favor of his new life, but Craig has treated Jimmy so horribly for his own selfish needs that it only makes Craig come off as hypocritical for calling Jimmy out. By abandoning Craig, Jimmy is pretty much doing the right thing.
A good point made but too bad the show never did this at all and Craig is one of the many reasons this series and Re-animated are so hated years later.
The change to have a laugh-track in the series is honestly pretty funny seeing how the show already had those music tracks and sound effects seen in other multi-camera kids shows (like Ned's Declassified or Big Time Rush for example) This makes me wonder how many other multi-camera shows have laugh tracks, as usually it's the single camera ones that have it.
Back in the 70s, 80s and 90s most American and British sitcoms had an actual studio audience (which is not the same thing as a laugh track) unless the effects of the show were seen as too complicated. For example the show Get A Life with Chris Elliot had a laugh track, while the British sitcom that inspired it, The Young Ones, had an audience. For The Young Ones the production team had 2 days in the recording studio (less complicated audience sitcoms tend to only have one) where they would get all the difficult work done on the first day and have the studio audience recording on the second day, with the audience watching the pre-recorded parts on a monitor. Though sometimes they would add extra laughter if they thought the audience reaction was unsatisfactory for some reason. We don’t have many audience sitcoms left in the UK anymore either, and we’re poorer for it in my opinion.
I’d never seen Out of Jimmy’s Head when it was on Cartoon Network, but I remember seeing one of the CN Real shows. Now looking at the history of it, I can see why this show had negatively impacted the ratings and how CN Real came to be.
I actually remember watching this Show on Cartoon Network, and MAN its been a LLOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNGG TIME since I saw this show. I remember the Talent Show Episode, the Slumber Party Episode and that Toon Ghost Episode.
@@jadedheartsz Its weird how this became Lost Media, even though I had memories of this Shows being seen on TV so many times. I did mention some of the Episodes I remembered.
@@Spacething7474 which arguably the biggest mistake had been made before the show even premiered with the marketing campaign for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie that resulted in bomb scares and while Boston arguably did overreact big time to it that campaign wasn't that well thought out.
No wonder a actual physical copy of the show or TV film are rare to come by because it's that much of a embarrassing failure for the network they would leave it buried and forgotten in the sands of time.
Hey Roger Rabbit, I forgot to do my homework. Can I use yours OK, but don't make it look obvious Or Mum can we see Roger Rabbit in Movies Mum: No Sweetie it's too scary. we have it at home,
Roger Rabbit, Space Jam, and Looney Tunes Back in Action are the only few Hybrid animated films that actually have a damn on how their characters and world worked.
Something to note about CNreal, it’s programming was made up entirely of reality or game shows, genres that do not have the same staff as traditional narrative television, which is quite advantageous when there’s an ongoing writer’s strike. Just something to chew on.
Back when it came out, I saw one episode and thought it was pretty boring as a 5 year old. No wonder why it lasted one season, plus I felt so sorry for the voice cast more than ever
18:56 Tinashe, the Black Girl who replaced the Asian Girl, has become a successful pop star. Not exactly Zendaya huge but she has a fairly big following...
I think people would throw out their TV sets out the window than record a second of this show. As much as it's a embarrassing trainwreck for CN having it preserved so people can know what not to do with a show like this.
@@PipeGuy64BitThat Is Why They Made This Lost Media. Everybody Who Hated The Show Didn’t Care About It Being Lost, As They Purposely Never Made Recordings, Hell Cartoon Network Even Tried To Get It Lost Forever, However, Recordings Were Made, And Later Found, And Someone Even Found A Press Materials, And Screener Kit DVD, Meanwhile, Someone Else Found A Region-Free British DVD From 2011 That Only Had The First Three Episodes, And Someone Else Even Found Yet Another DVD, But It Only Had 1 Episode.
Sadly this forgotten show/movie lives rent free in my head for how much it pissed me off. Though the idea of a kid getting schizophrenia from walt Disneys brain is interesting..
@@Spacething7474 agreed, people get bent out of shape over them. And the only reason people get mad is because Cartoon Network backed themselves into a corner with their name
It was honestly only in america. I used to spend a lot of time in Mexico and cartoon network had a good amount of succesful live action shows over there. For example they had a show called CQ. Which was similar to neds declassified in terms of it was a middle school show.
I know I’m going to get hate, but I have a weird enjoyment for this show. Also, I hate that this series is nearly completely lost. Just as a matter of principle, I think it needs to be preserved just because everything deserves to be preserved.
nah no hate from me I too have a weird enjoyment from this show from how insane it's universe is, it says a lot that Jimmy being able to seen cartoon characters isn't even remotely strange compared to how bizarre the show's universe already is to the point where it barely stands out. Like I loved the manic energy this show had, the episode where everyone competes in the school for some crazy laser tag battle royale elimination match(or something like that)was my personal favorite for how crazy it got with all the multiple levels to the school and everything.
Honestly I always liked this and its tv movie pilot Re-Animated (though I prefer the series), and I found none of the live-action shows on Cartoon Network to be bad (in fact several of them I'd say are pretty good!)
@@jadedheartsz i think dude what was happen was pretty good too, but most of the scripted live-action stuff (out of jimmy's head, incredible crew, the high fructose adventures of annoying orange) are my favorite cn live-action shows.
I actually loved this show growing up! I'm 22 years old and I even remember specific scenes like yesterday. Rewatching it after the lost episodes were leaked made me realize idc what people think OOJH is funny. Specifically the dad is really well acted & has some of f the funniest parts
As a kid this show felt like a poor man’s attempt at Ned Declassified. Which that show felt like a cartoon made in live action. But Ned’s had fast pacing and editing to help with that effect and make it work. Jimmy’s head everything is just awkward
I think this might be one of the only few live action CN shows to air outside of America. It's clear that their international networks wanted nothing to do with these shows lol.
In Romania the only US live action shows we got was this and Level Up. We didn't get any of the crappy CN Real shows or what came after them, but instead we got completely different live actions such as My Spy Family (sitcom, it wasn't bad tbh), The Latest Buzz (first season only, canadian sitcom, also alright), M.I High (first season only, spy series I barely remember anything about it aside from it airing late at nights before new episodes of Chowder and Total Drama Action), and Sarah Jane Adventures (first 2 seasons only, really damn good but it felt so out of place on the network it's insane, some of the aliens looked like they came straight out of horror films) We also got some Ben 10 live action quiz shows and some Scavenger Hunt show in 2017 nobody watched.
Funny thing about Out of Jimmy's Head, it only made it to the UK was on DVD, in a Pound shop of the first three episodes. We never bothered airing anything from this franchise, or anything from the Live Action era.
You should do a history of The Jetsons Movie, since it has quite a bit of making trivia, from the controversy of replacing the original Judy Jetson voice actress, after she recorded all her lines for the film, with pop singer Tiffany, to George Jetson’s voice actor literally dying while recording his lines…… To Mel Blanc’s final performance. I’d love to see your take on it
Pre CN Real live action stuff is an absolute trip. Until I started seeing videos about CN live action stuff, I was convinced I Mandela Effect'd half my childhood. Anyway, that Fried Dynamite music video has lived RENT FREE in my head for almost 20 years.
I was shocked that the animation was done by Renegade Animation… I remember them being the studio for Hi hi Puffy Ami Umi… which is weird they were dropped since they were also a CN show…
This series along with the 2006 Reanimated movie and the Boston Bomb Scare marked the beginning of a downfall that Cartoon Network never really recovered from.
Weird how the time only time that Out of Jimmy Head was on tv it was on reruns on Canal 5 from Mexico years ago. Flanderize characters in only one season after the Movie/pilot: *That's Silly!*
Out Of Jimmy’s Head was CN’s 2nd live action show since 1996’s Big Bag which was in partnership with Cartoon Network, and The Children’s television workshop, which was also Live action with animated cartoon segments, and was a preschool show. I mean I didn’t mind Cartoon Network doing something completely new, but the problem was they already did it before, despite the live action show had premiered, it really didn’t sat well with audiences. Stu Snyder who was at CN at the time wanted CN to compete with Nickelodeon and Disney.
This movie is to thank for why we started getting live action in Cartoon Network, and there are some reasons for not liking it (like, how does an alien sister fit in with the theme of the world, or how a brain transplant wouldn't kill Jimmy), but if there's one thing you do, it makes me see these bad movies in a whole new light. Even if I still don't like it, I view it differently.
I was hoping to see a video about this sometime! Thank you! While I understand the flaws now as an adult, this still remains a guilty pleasure in my book. I hope you're doing well!
Honestly, now that I think about it, Out Of Jimmy's Head was trying to be a show similar to Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. Goofy sound effects, having lots of energy, having this live-action/caroony nature, which is ironic as that show didn't have any animation involved (except when the Fairly Oddparents appeared in one episode), and yet that show was super beloved. I think it's because it was one of the few live-action shows to have two 11 minute segments, and that way it can cram as much as possible without being too much. OOJH, however...yeah, it tries to be a 22-minute show like those other sitcoms, and it might have been way too much. Also, good God, using a laugh track doesn't even make sense because it was one of those sitcoms that didn't have a live audience to begin with.
Live action shows don’t belong on Cartoon Network. It just doesn’t seem right. Out of Jimmy’s Head could’ve worked under different circumstances, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
Ok good. I thought i was having a fever dream when I watched this. Also, I totally remember crushing on jimmy and his sister. Dunno why i liked jimmy but yancy def can still get it
When I look back on this show, I feel like it missed the point of why these kinds of shows worked. In something like, say, early Fairly OddParents, the weird thing is supposed to make a kid's boring life more interesting; if the boring life is already weird, the weird thing becomes redundant. Knowing it was a deliberate decision kinda makes it worse to me? Now it feels like subverting a template for the sake of subverting it.
I remember watching the Re-Animated movie when it aired, and even as a dumb kid, I thought it was the single weirdest thing I ever watched in my life, but not in a good way. I never finished it and still have never finished the film to this day.
i loved both the movie and the show when i was a kid. looking back, yeah it was awful, but everytime i saw it on tv i would watch it. i have a lot of good memories about this show
In the same case how i waited for Johnny Bravo to end so i could watch Ed, Edd n' Eddy, i also waited for this show to end so i could watch Star Wars the Clone Wars.
points for experimenting with doing live action content (This and CN Real, which I heard : Nobody likes) Cartoon Network but yeah its best you guys stick with Cartoons
i'd like to see one on Team Toon as it's a very strange example of a show made in the U.S. that only aired on TV overseas, like Jimmy's Head it combines live-action with animation and most interestingly it features a very young Meg Donnely. It only aired on TV in the UK on their version of Cartoon Network and wasn't seen in the U.S. until it was dumped onto Netflix.
18:24 I’m worry about future cause of that ! Also I kinda attract to the alien sister , I was weird as a kid and I still got the theme song stuck in my head
The only time live actions shows work on CN are the ones on [adult swim] because outside of the budget they NEEDED TO MAKE AN ACTUAL COMPETENT SHOW and being on that block gave them much more liberties. Thanks to that we got Joe Pera talks to you, The Eric Andre Show, the most known show of them and the cult classis children's hospital.
At the time, I was REALLY jealous of these tween sitcoms getting more attention than cartoons. (It also didn't help that they were so bad that they made 'Saved By The Bell' look like 'Citizen Kane') However when you're Cartoon Network, A channel that prides itself airing animation, and you want to compete with networks that aim for A mainstream audience, there in lies the problem. Cartoon Network could've (and should've) stuck to their guns, but sadly, they gave in, and I will admit that at least ''Re-Animated'/'Out Of Jimmy's Head' tried to have animation in it, but the premise, and the execution fells flat on it's face. Mr. Enter, and Rowdy C already covered this.
Honestly, out of all of the live action shows they produced, Level Up was the most decent one. It wasn’t a masterpiece by any means, but the actors looked like they had fun going ham with what they were given.
Please Media Mementos do a respective on the series Tower Prep it’s actually one of the Live-Action shows Cartoon Network made that was actually good since it was planned for a season 2 but sadly we never got it and I still hope we get it someday it would be cool if you can talk about it🤙🏼
At first i thought this was just cartoon network trying to play catch up with Disney channel and Nickelodeon around this time 😂😂 was more excited for clone wars ben 10 bakugan and new episodes of Naruto on Saturday nights
This show is the embodiment of Bile Fascination as listed on TV Tropes to me- like objectively it's hot garbage, but I look at the base idea and everything that went wrong and I can't help but be FASCINATED by it and imagine a world where things went slightly better and it was good. One idea I saw forever back was that Cartoon Network should've used characters from their existing lineup instead of creating the Appleday cast, and ngl i think that could be a pretty cool show! Admittedly licensing would be hell, but what kid HASN'T imagined they're best friends with their favorite cartoon characters, whether it's having them as an imaginary friend or just daydreaming about being their pal?
It was weird how CN had something good and then made it worse when it could've been better. Honestly, the show reminds me of other shows that combined live-action with animation, where there could've been potential for other shows like that to come with quality, but we got what we got.
Watch Roger Rabbit, Space Jam or Looney Tunes Back In Action instead! Hell, I’d also rather watch The Adventures Of Rocky & Bullwinkle movie over this!
10:38 The reason Paul Left was because the Network wasn't very happy with his voice range so they had him do an episode for chowder instead of returning
Adam Pava made a twitter post after Paul passed away and mentioned that the network was hesitant with him and people were driving him crazy in the recording booth trying to find a voice for Golly.
Oh, This Thing Quite Literally Made Cartoon Network Look So Bad For Even Creating Live-Action Shows In The Fucking First Place, That They Tried To Get It All Lost, Yet 15 Years Later, It Became Found. They Were So Close To Getting Their Own Selves Killed, As They Were Embarrassed By Their Own Actions.
I remember wanting to watch Re-Animated when it came out, but I always got stuck going somewhere with my parents every time it came on. Hearing a lot of people saying it wasn't funny made me skip it.
