I have no idea why I decided to watch the entire 2012 Opening Ceremony at the end of April 2024, but here I am.

The industrialisation part is still one of the most epic productions for an opening ceremony how it ended with the rings as well gives me goosebumps 10 yrs later still

When people say what defines Great Britain and what does it mean to be British, I always say just watch the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. This was Britain at its peak. What a year!

This really encapsulates what it felt like to be British in 2012. I'm glad this will always be around to capture that mood forever. What a magical era!

Anyone watching in June 2024?

I have no idea why I decided to watch the entire 2012 Opening Ceremony at the end of June 2020, but here I am.

I'm guessing we're all here for the same reason.

Even after so many years, it still leaves me breathless... It's still the best opening ceremony for me.

Anyone else rewatching this after seeing Tokyo's opening ceremony?

The opening 34 mins of this gets me every time, just the most fantastic opening to an opening ceremony ever, the performances, Music, choreography and story told is just perfect. the lighting of the torch and the entrance of Redgrave through a crowd of the workers who built the park another beautiful moment. Underworld who did the music for all this deserve huge credit.

Admit it. We are all here for the Industrial Revolution part.

It was this Olympics that Inspired my daughter to become an Olympic Athlete, 4 years later her and I went to Brazil where she was a reserve. Its two years to go and I think Im gonna see her compete in Tokyo. I wish people would stop chopping onions in the room when I see this ceremony.

The industrialization scene is epic. Even though I'm not English, it made me emotional. The pain and labor of so many people... It's really touching.

November 2020 anyone? The industrial revolution scene still gives me chills!

I can not imagine that there will EVER be a better opening ceremony than this. The ind. revolution part is just insane, the fireworks are perfect, the music as the athletes arrive is great, Team GB entrance with David Bowie's "Heroes" and so many more things. I get goosebumps and tears to my eyes every time I see it

Just the amazing way everyone was so synchronised and they were all together. The music was brilliant and I still get goosebumps.

2012 really was the benchmark year of being British. Nothing will ever come close to the pride that swept through the nation during the games. Never forget the happiness on the streets.. Take me back

As someone who worked this ceremony , it lives on as one my favourite nights , I was outside the stadium helping people to get home , I missed it live , but watched it the next day , the smiles and happiness in people faces lives with me , I heard it , the music , it remains as my one of my greatest nights ever , I went to the pub afterwards and everyone bought me drinks , we laughed and cried , a moment of true happiness in my life

You can't help but sit up when watching this masterpiece. Love to all involved

The best opening of all time for an Olympic ceremony which contrasts so much with what is usually done, in particular thanks to a soundtrack that is just superb and a staggering staging. In short, a modern and epic opening ceremony. Respect.

내가 본 올림픽 개막식 중 최고는 런던이였다. 진짜 당시 엄청 충격적이였던게... 스토리텔링, 구성, 연출 모두 진짜 지금봐도 끝내주지만, 무엇보다 영국이 얼마나 문화적으로 가진게 많고 대단한지 너무 잘 보여줬었다. 따로 설명할 필요없이 전세계 사람들이 역사, 문화에 대한 설명이 없더라도 무엇인지 다 알 수 있었다. 진짜 우리 나라 쩔지? 이걸 멋지게 보여준 개막식이였음...

The industrial revolution section is still one of the most epic performances ever. The movement, the music, the special effects. It looks amazing.

I forgot just how many amazing beautiful songs were included in this. The kind you’d never expect to hear anywhere near an Olympics ceremony. Firestarter , Born Slippy.. and so on. Amazing.

The way the rings came together and the torch flames seemingly floating up to come together were the best bits IMO. Glad the torch designer/make ignored the "No moving parts" order!!

I'm an American and I remember watching this for the first time and realizing, to my shock, how much of what I grew up with and loved and assumed was American pop culture ... was actually British. Well done, UK. You really reminded us how deeply you've impacted our lives. Also, I don't think I've ever seen anything so simultaneously dreadful and inspiring as the Pandemonium sequence. The golden Olympic ring out of all that smoke and chaos. I thought it was very brave of Britain to acknowledge both the good and the bad that came out of industrialization, and very hopeful to have all that result in a symbol of unity for all humanity.

Sat watching it now,what a ceremony ,the forging of the five rings is amazing to watch when they come together the crowd the music ,Barry Davies narrating just awesome and of course Danny Boyles direction truly spectacular,makes my eyes water every time I see it

영국의 뛰어난 장면만 보여준게 아닌 그 뒤에 어두운 이면까지 수치스러움 부끄러움 없이 모두 보여준 개막식 오프닝이였다. 세계 식민지배나 수탈은 별개로 노동자 계급의 부각이나 여성들의 참정권 연출 모두 놀랍다.

Watching this for the umpteenth time. The industrial and rings sequence brought tears to my eye. So epic. So proud of UK. Best opening sequence ever. ❤

Opening industrial portrayal. Many years later still mesmerising, captivating, heartbreaking, exhilarating and spiritually rendering. Reflecting history and humanity at its most vulnerable and powerful, full of expectation, but with no certain outcome, like sport itself. As a Londoner living just a mile from the stadium at the time (and luckily with the fortune to attend a couple days events), I could relate to lots of the story and symbolism in this piece. I pray this important and iconic production and its anthem live on for decades, as a reminder (especially given incredibly dark times, worldwide, barely a decade later), of the unshakeable collective power of the people. Past, present and future. Heartfelt thank you and well done to all the creators and participants involved. Blessings.

I just watched all of the opening ceremonies from Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 here in RU-vid. All I can say is that for me, London 2012 is the best.

I still absolutely love how the idea behind the ceremony, Danny Boyle knew he couldn't surpass china's opening ceremony in size and scale, so instead he went for the idea of "inspire a generation", and the show in the end, turned out better than anyone could have hoped

Oh I remember sitting glued to the TV and getting super excited when my country's team passed by the podium.

The Industrial Revolution performance, which precedes the coming-together of the Olympic rings, always gives me goosebumps. Phenomenal music and performance. Perfectly executed.

This brings tears to my eyes 10 years on. Caliban, Brunell, the NHS, Dizzy Rascal, Olympics in East London and Danny Boyle in charge of that. Choreography, costumes, lighting, sound, everything on point. The Queen not telling her family she was involved. That's class. I was so proud then and still am of that moment (thank you Radio 4 for The Reunion) but...I won't spoil it.

Watching this Olympic games at 16 made fall in love with all sports and this opening is waw one of the most memorable ones I will ever remember for the rest of my life. Watch it Once in a while to remember that great summer

This is the best opening and Olympic Games ever , I remember when I was watching it with my dad after one year my dad passed away 😢

I remembered watching this with the family and being shocked how most of the things that I loved came from British culture. I already knew about Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Doctor Who and various other things. But I had an eagerness of exploring the city, seeing the statues, and hearing Big Ben ring. I realized that going to London was my dream and promised myself that one way or another I was going to see the city in person someday. Seven years later my dream came true!

I remember coming home from holiday the day the olympics started and seeing the hustle and bustle travelling through London. honestly can't think of a more beautiful moment of the world being united in London at that moment. It was genuinely one of the few times I've felt proud to be British seeing tourists of all corners of the world taking pictures and laughing together :)
