The Complete Process of a Praying Mantis Hatching

Over the last month, my praying mantis egg cases (oothecas) have been slowly hatching. I recorded some close up footage of the process to get a detailed view.
It's amazing to see these tiny fragile looking creatures emerge, fully equipped with spiky legs and ready to begin their first hunt.
The species is Miomantis caffra, native to southern Africa. Freshly hatched, they start off at around 5mm in size. Fully grown, they reach around 3.5 - 4.5cm.

Thanks man. It was my first time seeing that fluid movement as well. Never had the proper lighting to record them last year, so quite happy I managed to capture that.

Yup, its an amazing process. To think, all those little delicate legs and spiky bits are all crammed into that tiny capsule of an egg, and still somehow manage to emerge looking so flawless.

I had 10 or so egg cases. I let the majority of them go in the wild and only kept around 15 nymphs. I'm not sure how many hatched in total.

@@dappie7109 Yeah, its tricky to intentionally catch them hatching, specially the type that hatch all at once. This specific species hatches in small batches each day, so I had multiple opportunities. I also had about 6 egg cases to work with which helped. Understandable if he missed the process. Thanks for explaining.
