Hello and thank you for watching the video! Please leave a like and comment if you enjoyed the video and consider subscribing.
Star Wars Fan Animations produces high-quality adaptations of Star Wars Books, Comics and Games. Our focus is on the Expanded Universe ("Legends")
Animation is time consuming and expensive, so supporting me on Patreon or buying me a Blue Milk "Coffee" on Ko-Fi, will be instrumental to hire and maintaining a team of professional Voice Actors, 3D Artists, Composers, and Sound Designers to produce at a high volume, and at a high quality.
While all videos are free to watch on RU-vid, fan films cannot be monetized since I do not own the copyright, however, through Ko-Fi and Patreon you can help fund the adaptations of your favorite Star Wars stories! And you get all kinds of exclusive benefits as well!
So please consider becoming a patron, or buying me a Blue Milk "Coffee" on Ko-Fi; every amount helps to make the adaptations better, faster, and longer!

There's also a sampler edition of the novel that was a premium item in a UK Nintendo magazine in the 90's. And there's a range of shirts, including one with Xizor. There's also officially licensed posters of the cover art. There were official costume items, specially of Xizor. A strategy guide magazine from Electronic Gaming Monthly. A baseball hat. Several bookstore displays. A bookmark. A San Diego Comic Con ash can that previews the comic. A coffee mug and official key chain. All the tie-ins to the Topps cards. An official series of tie-in cereal boxes with related art. The reference book "Secrets of Shadows of the Empire". And there's the full range of promotional posters for all the above. Truly an expansive multimedia project.

Thank you. VERY AUTHORITATIVE. My hope/theory has been: Shadows Of The Empire has never been reissued as part of The Essential Legends Collection, because it's not part of The EU...because Filoni and his Team will reinsert it back in to official canon. However, I'd be fascinated to see what kind of quality, evocative new cover art We'd get from a SOTE Essential Legends version.
@starwarsfananimations

ELC covers are hit or miss. Some have great art (even if I prefer the originals) others, like Courtship of Princess Leia, are MASSIVE downgrades. I still don’t prefer the legends banner on them, but there’s been some good new art to come out of them

@Little-Oshawott-2010 29 дней назад
Why is this not included in the new canon?
@starwarsfananimations
@starwarsfananimations 29 дней назад
Because of Disney hubris. They have their own version which is called War of the Bounty Hunters, which is primarily told in comics. Outlaws crosses over with it a good deal from what I’ve seen. I can’t speak on Outlaws’ story, but the comics were pretty mid imo, the only cool additions were Valance and Domina Tagge from the Star Wars ‘77 comics. Domina was much better in those, but I liked to see an expansion on Valance who only appeared in 4 issues of the original comic
@a_fine_edition2746
@a_fine_edition2746 Месяц назад
Are there any major differences between the various editions of the main novel? Also, does the “Bounty Hunter Wars” trilogy factor into this multimedia project at all? I was considering starting on those books soon, but I was under the impression they were happening more or less concurrent with Shadows of the Empire.
@starwarsfananimations
@starwarsfananimations Месяц назад
The text of the novel is identical in every edition except the junior edition which is condensed and more PG, less PG-13. BHW kind of works as a prequel and sequel. It cuts back and forth from present day (starting with Boba escapes from the sarlacc still during ROTJ) and “then” which takes place shortly after the Battle of Yavin. There’s almost a cool quadrilogy of sort that it forms starting with the “then” of BHW, picking up later with Tales of the Bounty Hunters during ESB, followed by SOTE, and then ending with the “present” of BHW. Xizor plays a big role in BHW’s “then” sections, and the “present” references SOTE and TotBH a good deal. There isn’t any overlap, but you’d definitely get your bounty hunter fix reading all of it. If I had to recommend a reading order I’d say SOTE (including the comics which exclusively features all the BH stuff) TotBH, and then BHW.

@@starwarsfananimations Thanks for all of the useful info! I really appreciate it. I was actually considering reading TotBH first, so this just clears things up a bit more. I've already read SOTE, but maybe I'll try and find some of those comics to fill in the gaps!

Hey, good video. Only thing I'd point out is that the Marvel comics don't tie in to SOTE at all. SOTE is designed to fit snugly into the gap between the two movies, and was written with the intention that it covers the totality of what happened in between them, bearing in mind the fact that EU continuity editors did not consider the comics to be part of the continuity when this multimedia project was written, and it's very ambiguous as to whether that ever changed, despite the comics being added to Chee's holocron and given a label.
@starwarsfananimations
@starwarsfananimations Месяц назад
While it’s true that SOTE was not written with them in mind, they actually work incredibly smooth and later on in guidebooks the connection was solidified in EU canon. In SOTE it’s mentioned there’s a 3 month gap where no one knew where Boba was and the heroes were looking for him. In the 77’ comics, we see a good deal of that search but they never find him. SotE ends with the Bothans being in possession of the DS II plans, but in the 77’ comics, see how after deciphering the supercomputer, they got the data back to the Rebellion just before ROTJ. Though they weren’t intended to work together, the do in a very wonderful way!
@Douglas-zt4sx
@Douglas-zt4sx Месяц назад
@@starwarsfananimations What guideboks solidified those issues into EU canon? I've looked in new essential chronology, EGTW, and ESR and I can't see anything like that.
@starwarsfananimations
@starwarsfananimations Месяц назад
@@Douglas-zt4sx Fenn Shysa, Tay Vanis, and Shira Brie (probably the 4 most important Marvel 77’ characters between the ESB and ROTJ) are all referenced in The New Essential Chronology, with a specific section showing how the Death Star II plans got from Koth Melan to Tay Vanis to Luke Skywalker. In addition to a lot of magazines such as Gamer, and Insider, and are mentioned in several of the West End Games sourcebooks. All 3 characters also got brought into other novels/comics and their Marvel 77’ history either foreshadowed or referenced (Republic Commando, the Rookies comics, NJO and Legacy of the Force being prime examples
@Douglas-zt4sx
@Douglas-zt4sx Месяц назад
@@starwarsfananimations oh fair. I found the Tay Vanis mention now in Essential Chronology! It really shows how the EU was co-opted in later years by people who wanted to make the Marvel series c-canon. Pena and Handley especially (Pena wrote an essay in 2000 that made it clear it was an ideological crusade for him). I don't think anyone can read SOTE and not see it's intended as the totality of everything significant that takes place inbetween the films. I don't think Lucy Wilson would have approved of cramming everything in. The other thing to remember is that when an event is referenced in C-canon, it's only the individual elements of those stories being referenced that become C-canon, and not the whole issue. All Marvel comics remain S-canon, which is the Holocron term for how they were in the 90s (free to ignore and contradict apocrypha).
