For everyone to take in, here is the definitive accounting of my bones guitar. Many of you have been thoughtful enough to ask about it. I hope you don’t mind spending some time learning about it…
Quick correction: the hardwood shop I mentioned in California is called Austin Hardwoods.

Hey George, somewhere in that story is another bones guitar that Christopher woods made for you that I bought from you in 2014. I don't know if you remember, but you even got the two stickers for the head stock and sent them to me. Before I refinished the head stock I striped the paint off of it and what did I see but the initials G.B. under the paint job. It's a fun guitar. The only changes I made to it outside of the paint on the head stock was a copper tone block, and a brass PMS which both made a big difference in improving the tone. Happy to see your still playing!

@@SDesWriter The build is complete from scratch. My being a lefty put me n the customer order category. He has different levels of builds he offers but the highest detailed version is custom order right or left handed. You can customize your build anyway you like as in pickup brands, location, add neck pickup, lights in fretboard, custom frets and inlays…list goes on and on. My build out the door with George Lynch Dokken Stenciled flight case will be $4,500. He has not completed it yet but is in final stages. Check out his website and you can spec one out.

George is on my Mount Olympus of guitar players. (Rhodes, Lifeson and Clapton are the other 3) I met Lynch once at a clinic at Skip's Music in Sacramento. They say never meet your heroes. In this case that could not be more from the truth. George spent 2 hours longer than scheduled for the clinic, just hanging out with the attendees and LEARNING FROM THEM. It was an amazing experience. To see a guy, SO well-known and respected asking hackers about their techniques, who they follow and why, music theory, improvisation and so on. Humble like you would not believe. He stayed until every question was asked, every photo was taken, and every autograph signed. I had him sign my Charvel M1 and 30 years later it sits on my wall as a treasured memory. This was a great story. Full transparency, I am SOOOOO jealous. I remember seeing the Bones for the first time (George's) and wanting it so bad regardless of if it was awesome or played like a 2X4 with strings. Thanks for the vid sir. Excellent presentation and all the nuts-and-bolts guitar nerds want to know!

I’ve had several wonderful interactions with George as well. Kind, humble and patient. I was very fortunate to fall into the company of kind, generous folks who helped me realize that particular dream guitar. I am grateful. Thanks so much for sharing those awesome memories. Reminds me of when we had George in-store at Pink Guitarz in ‘97. I picked him up, 30 min away, in my own car. I have never been so intimidated. It was totally unnecessary, of course. Tale care! I’ll see you out there… 🙂🎸👍🏻 G

Awesome guitar! Really obvious from even just a quick glance that a ton of work was put into it, it's gorgeous. I am finishing up building my own version as well, got a rough CNC'd body I put a few months of Dremel and paint work into. Mine looks nowhere near as accurate to the OG as this but I'm happy with it. The hard part for me was during research I noticed George had 2 guitars back in the day and the carvings are different between them (mainly the hands), I chose features from both to make my "version". The bit about Hal stealing your photo is absolutely hilarious to me. Despicable.....yes, but now your guitar has even more of a story to it haha. Keep on shreddin' man, love seeing your videos since I discovered your channel

Can't go wrong with a JB59 in the bridge of any guitar. That was a good choice.

@100chuckjones 6 месяцев назад
I have a JB59 that was wound by MJ in Seymours first shop back in 1981. It is possibly my most prized possession. It has resided in my 03 Strat for around 15 years now. That particular guitar is wired similar to EVH. 1 pickup/1 volume knob, wired to input jack. It's not a versatile guitar but for metal and rock ? There is nothing like it.

Sorry, I deleted my first comment after watching a bit more of the video. I was 17 and in a band the first time I saw this guitar. I fell in love immediately. Every magazine article I ever saw about George and the bones guitar in it or on it…I bought it. Now…the very first one did not have a reverse headstock. That one is used in the video for It’s Not Love. After that…everyone I’ve seen since…is reversed. Now…did they change necks, or is it a completely different guitar??? I have never been able to research that. I asked that question years ago on one for Chris Wood’s videos but never got an answer. Regardless…the CW models made today ( I think they are still available) are amazing. I stopped playing years ago due to other projects and things going on…but I always wanted one. Thank you for this video. Edit… I have a close up, detailed photo from 1987 of a bones guitar and the neck is NOT scalloped. There are still a lot of pieces to this puzzle I would love to find out.
@gbalulis
@gbalulis 6 месяцев назад
The guitar first appeared with a non-reverse headstock and a strat type of bridge (see the “It’s Not Love” video). That’s because the guitar wasn’t totally finished. John Garcia rushed a mach-up final assembly so it could make it on camera for the video shoot. So, it was the same guitar with temporary neck. Ultimately, however, the skull - jigged on as a piece of wood that John Garcia had in his driveway as a tire stop for his boat - started separating from the body (or cracked). This resulted in George retiring the guitar. John then made the little seen “Bones 2” guitar: a much less dynamic carve, flatter in nature, that was almost a far cry from the original. That guitar appeared in the “River of Love” video if I am not mistaken. I came by this information by Craig Rundels, who is an absolute authority on this topic. He should make a coffee table book about it! Thanks for watching! 🙂🎸

That's a really nice job done on this guitar! What was the reason for choosing maple as the body wood, do you prefer heavier guitars, or did it have something to do with all of the extensive carving done on it? I remember seeing pictures of the original in magazines when I was a kid, I thought it was the coolest guitar ever! And it sounds like Hal Leonard owes you some royalties! Lol.
@gbalulis

Hey there! Thank you, first of all. In talking to Craig, the maple lent itself better to the detail work. At the time, I was also into the brightness it brings to the tone of the guitar. Take care! 😎👍🏻🎸 G
