I like how the one collective positive about this season is Dawn. In such a divisive season, it really speaks volumes to how well received her character turned out to be.

Lighting’s reaction to Jo’s “I’ve never kissed a guy” is my favorite joke in the whole season

The best line this whole season was in episode 2 when Sam goes, “you know me and you have a lot in common”, and Dakota responds with, “how could you say something like that to me?”

I feel Scott intentionally making his team lose would have worked if his strategy consisted of kicking off competitive, and smart characters leaving the people he deemed to be easy targets to make the merge and final 2 a cake walk

Woo okay! I finally finished the video so now I wanna say this. As someone with NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) they accidentally made Lightning probably one of the best representations of it from the final episode alone. I remember rewatching it recently after having forgotten a lot of it and being quite worried that he was going to just be another narcissist jock stereotype, but they actually did touch on the reason why it happens to begin with. The constant need for validation and praise from others, in particular, his father and the legacy he needs to uphold. Them choosing to keep his father turned around while betting everything on his son was masterful as well since it hints at neglect and constant expectations which again is what causes the disorder, namely happening throughout childhood (and Lightning did grow up in an environment like as it's hinted quite a few times in the series). And him, even with all the people he knew over the season being in danger, still choosing to try and win, not for the money, but for his father's praise really hit close to home. This isn't be arm chair diagnosing him by the way. This is me, as someone with NPD, mildly impressed that a season with so many issues going on managed to accidentally give it's narcissistic stereotype character actual traits of NPD rather than only the narcissism. This is all incredibly ironic since Cameron is who I always rooted for to win as a kid and has been one of my top favorites, but Lightning may have sha-won his way into my mildly interesting thoughts.

On a more serious note, I'm disappointed that Dawn didn't come back in a later season. Maybe her Granola Girl schtick would've gotten old, but I liked her aura ability, and would rather her talking to animals than anything they did with Ella in Paketahew.

Lightning in terms of physicality wasn't really incompetent, just outclassed by the mutant creatures. He was legitimately strong, he did manage to punch that octopus tree thing, pumped Brick's scuba suit, got the statue and kicked Ezekiel's ass, bent those bars, and got a huge comeback in the spray paint challenge. He basically got second place in taking down Heather. Lightning was always a threat when it came down to pure brawn.

After watching a second time, I noticed some really cool easter eggs that switchie put in, and it's given me new found appreciation for his work. If you look closely, you'll notice that a few times switchie is actually replaced with a different white guy with long hair. Very cool detail.

I think even 18 episodes would be good. Having just even 6 non elimination challenges can really help.

I feel like an underrated aspect about this season is how justified the eliminations feel this time around. I mean, we never get any sort of elimination that feels nearly as unjustified as Lashawna and Lindsay in season 1 or Noah in season 3.

I totally get you on the "Scott in a trauma chair" thing. I don't think I've ever been as uncomfortable watching anything, as I was seeing Scott in that thing, being laughed at by everyone else for having lost the ability to communicate with people back when I was 12, thinking that that was how he would stay the rest of his life. But Alejandro's drama machine might be 2nd, that one gave me legit nightmares. Imo, that is waaay to mean-spirited for a kid's show. Actually, that scene alone might single-handedly put the RotI finale in contention for my least favourite episode of any series ever.

I wish they kept Dawn longer, she was my favorite of the whole season (if not the show, she’s adorable and I love her) plus as was pointed out, her traits as a character could have been used to further personal plot points and I can kind of see the idea of a relationship between her and Scott (Scott is a farm boy and Dawn is a cottagecore witch girl…done right they could have been a power couple and we could have avoided Scott and Courtney)

People said he couldn’t people said that this was the end that world tour would mark the end of an era, a life, a journey, but switch1e he would not allow this for he is gracious.

While Scott probably didn't deserve to be laughed at on national television for being on what is essentially life support, I know for a 100% fact that he would DEFINITELY laugh if the shoe was on the other foot. But then again, Scott is literally the villain, he's supposed to be a jerk.

Honestly happy you brought up Scott and Dawn as a ship because I was actually obsessed with them a while back for no particular reason. It’s a dumb ship but MAN was it a vital part of ROTI for me

Can't wait to watch Scott throw his teams challenges. I never really got that as a kid. The only reason I thought of him as an antagonist was because he kept kicking out the only characters I liked. He was infuriating at least but not in the interesting drama way like Heather and Alejandro

I legitimately can't express enough how much I prefer watching people talk/summarize Total Drama over actually watching Total Drama.

I think your decision not to take a stance on the fictionalized DID in this season has a lot of admirable reasons to it, and I'm glad that you acknowledged the discourse where you did! I also really appreciate that you use the more respectful diagnostic term throughout the video, because that was something about this season that really got to me. As a DID system host myself, I think the depiction in this season was decent, if oversimplified. The triggers being involved was maybe a little cartoonish, but I don't know what more to expect from this kind of show, and triggers are very much a real thing that happens with specific alters. The biggest issue I had was more with Cameron (and eventually Scott) taking so much advantage of Mike's system's triggers. I'm also glad they didn't try to invent a backstory for Mike's system, because I don't think the writers would be able to portray that sensitively in such a wacky kids' show. I think fan works tend to explore that deeper and with more nuance, and I think that's the best case scenario about it, so ROTI did probably the best I can reasonably expect from the Total Drama series. I hated the way All-Stars did it, though. As much as persecutor alters are a thing, Mal being the stereotypical "evil" alter is just not fun. It's basically the same as any bad "evil alter" trope in media, and I thought it was a shame that Total Drama threw out the serviceable, if over-the-top, depiction they had for the same cookie-cutter negativity that paints real people who live with dissociative disorders in a bad light.

2:17:28 The worst part about this is that Total Drama All-Stars basically made the Alejandro ending in World Tour canon, since during the episode where Chris gets captured by Ezekiel he mentions that he was the one responsible for letting Ezekiel fall into the volcano. That could only happen if Alejandro won in Season 3, since the reason Ezekiel fell into the volcano in Heather's ending was because Heather dropped the bag, and not Chris.

I think another thing that this season was sorely missing were the Aftermath shows. I don’t understand why they stopped them, it could’ve been great to get more screen time for early-eliminated contestants. Staci reacting to losing her hair, more B and Dawn screen time, etc. You could easily bring back old cast members for cameos here, as well! I never understood why they stopped them after World Tour. Did they lose budget between seasons 3 and 4, and that’s why the runtimes were cut in half? We may never know :(

Scott blaming B and making him get booted hurts my soul

I love how thoroughly you examined this season, and tried to not let your biases cloud things TOO much. Because obviously we all have nostalgia. I agree, it's a shame that the newer seasons are deeply hindered by their short run time (but I think not even a longer run time could have saved Pakitew, so in a way the short run time there was merciful) As someone with a lot of similar mental health struggles, I really enjoy Mike as a character, seeing him struggle to open up and tell his friends about his disorder was really relatable to me. Since it's easy to see yourself as a freak when you're not neurotypical, and not want your friends to judge you or see you as your disorder. But unfortunately they squander him (and especially Mal) HARD in All Stars, they had the potential to tell a really good story about him accepting himself and his disorder, which they sort of try to do but HOLY SHIT IT MISSES THE MARK. It would have been so much better if Mal was explicitly motivated by his hatred for Mike for suppressing him and trying to get rid of his alters. Rather than being "just for the evulz lol", because he has a good motivation to sabotage Mike , and prove that he's better without him there. They just ignore it. I think he could have easily been a better antagonist, they just took the easy route since they were pressed for time.

I'm glad to see Anne-Maria appreciation in this video ! I was surprised by how much I grew to appreciate her through out the season, to the point of being very disappointed at her elimination. Anne-Maria remains to me one of the biggest missed potential of Total Drama. She had everything, unique stereotype and personality, humor, challenge potential and even dynamics with characters. Like who would have thought that the next love triangle to come after WT would be so cool ?! I even imagined a plot for her. I'm thinking it would be interesting to use Mike's actual disinterest in her as a way to progress her character. Anne-Marie starts as quite the arrogant and superficial character, building all her pride out of her "artificial beauty", which at first attracts "Mike's" attention. However, as Mike grows to control his personalities, Anne-Maria subsequently begins to lose his attention for Zoe, the "anti-Anne-Maria". Zoe is kind, humble, natural, all the opposite of Anne-Maria. Seeing that Mike seems way more attracted to those characteristics, this would lead Anne-Maria to drop her beauty product and try to be more "natural". Unfortunately, this obviously doesn't work out for her as Mike simply is in love with Zoe. Even worse, now that she has abandoned her products, she also abandoned some of her huge challenge strength, like her iron-hard hairs. This ends up being the huge downfall for Anne-Maria's character, losing her "beauty", love interest AND challenge strength. That sets up her for a potential big development which I think could go down this way : Finding herself desperate, without any friends and at the brink of elimination, Anne-Maria tries to return to her old habits, her overuse of beauty products. However she finds that her products have disappeared, but eventually comes the challenge. I see it taking place at merge, in a time where bad-blood-with-everyone Anne-Maria finds herself alliance-less, which seems to set her up for the next elimination. Additionally, Anne-Maria having lost her challenge advantage, does not give her much hope for immunity. This reflects on the beginning of the challenge, some sort of race, where she performs very poorly, unlike some other contestants. Anne-Maria witnesses Zoe screwing up, but Mike saves her, allowing both to continue the challenge together. This greatly angers Anne-Maria, who is once again faced with the fact she was not as good as Zoe. However, her rage really comes through when Chris, who is at the end of the race to welcome the winner, shares a message through his speakers. While the message is aired however, Anne-Maria recognizes a sound that she recognizes very well, her hair spray. Chris, out of his usual greed for material property, had stolen her beauty products, HER things. Anne-Maria's rage grow so strong that her performance suddenly pump-up as she rolls through the challenge using her own strength. This reveals one of her actual true qualities, her will. Anne-Maria has always been someone to never take shit from anyone. She knows what she finds important, and will defend aggressively if needed. She's willing to fight for herself, and has the potential to be a very independent and strong woman, similarly to Leshawna. Anne-Maria comes first, getting her both the immunity and her products back that she scared Chris into giving her back. After the challenge, Anne-Maria directly heads to the bathroom to "beautify" herself again. However, once faced with her own reflection in the mirror, she finds that she actually quite likes her normal look. Whether it is that Anne-Maria grew more used to her natural look, or that her lack of use of artificial products has done great for her body (both), Anne-Maria really truly begins to appreciate being herself. Anne-Maria ends up still using her products which she loves, but at a lesser extent, adding to her natural beauty instead of completely changing it. She gives up on covering herself with an artificial beauty for the attention of ungrateful boys. Her passion for beauty is still there, but she now values her natural body more, but also her own opinion on her looks instead of searching for boys' approval. Anne-Maria grows into a stronger, more down to earth and independent person, retaining the character traits that form the core of her identity, and that evolution is reflected in her winning immunity ! That's the overall of what I would do for Anne-Maria. I think there is still potential even after that, like a relationship with Fashion scholar Brick, or her forming an actual friendship with "Vito's" other personalities for example, but that's another story. Anne-Maria is a character I particularly like for how little screen-time she had, and I'm happy to be able to share my thoughts on what I think would be a well-deserved improvement to Iron (Hair) Woman who stands to me as one of the best Gen 2 characters alongside others like Dawn (also missed potential :( ) and Scott who can be as funny as Anne-Maria.

the prodigal son has returned!! another masterpiece like always! I will say though I’m a little sad to not see a single other Jo/Brick shipper in the house. I love their dynamic so much i stop watching after episode 7 every time i watch through this season. They have such good banter and i firmly believe that if Brick was in All-Stars like he was supposed to be (VA wasn’t available, so we got Sam instead) we would’ve gotten SOMETHING w them. Fr he is the only person Jo ever has an OUNCE of sympathy for.

I actually like most of the 2nd cast more than some of the original cast. They are all unique without being straight-up flanderized people like the 3rd cast. Plus the friendships and relationships from season 4 are honestly super sweet and wholesome. You can totally see how they would interact outside of the show.

Very underrated season imo, easily the best utilization of the 13-episode format in the original series (aka not including the reboot, which I do think did it well). A bit of a shame that the second gen cast didn’t get one more season to themselves before All Stars, that might’ve helped that season be…better lol. I’d definitely argue the biggest problems introduced in this season were Chris starting to become TOO cruel (as well as the season itself kinda having a more mean spirted vibe to it), and the show leaning more into goofy, unrealistic factors instead of feeling more grounded with the intro to the radioactive creatures.

Honestly I wish Dawn was there for a bit longer, I knew she'd never win but she'd been great for characters to actually talk about their feelings and develop as a whole.

This season is so under appreciated, the premise though cartoonish was genuinely interesting and could’ve worked really well if it was stretched across a longer season. Though it strays from the format I believe the season should’ve been 20 episodes, preceded by a Season 3 special that would introduce the contestants and close the gap between the two seasons. The cast is so small that the season would be far too barren with a 26 episode format. Having a two part introduction like the first three seasons would help make the change less jarring. The additional 7 episodes would allow the show to give slower build up and more satisfactory endings to storylines such as the Zoey, Mike and Anne Maria love triangle and the Sam and Dakota romance.

The Chowder homage at the beginning made me so happy, Especially since I just watched a vid compiling all their fourth wall breaks the other day so that joke was still fresh in my mind 😂

That this video ends up being longer than the original about a season that's double the length, and I still felt thoroughly engaged and entertained throughout its runtime is a testament to how great your videos have gotten in my opinion. Clearly, a metric fuck ton of effort goes into these things and I definitely wouldn't be able to notice and appreciate (at least, on a conscious level) every little detail, but I will comment on one in particular that people haven't seemed to have commented on I guess. The map in the Mario Kart segment having Mike and Scott in such close proximity the whole time is a nice detail, and Cameron being completely stationary because he's caught up with his artwork is really amusing to me for whatever reason, especially considering you didn't mention Cameron being distracted until after the joke. Good job all around bud.

I've always been a huge defender of the gen 2 cast. They have really great moments in ROTI and i always felt like if they got a second go around before all-stars or even just a longer season people would’ve taken the change a little softer.

I've watched this video so many times already. You did such a great job on this and I can't wait to see more Total Drama content in the future. Something I just noticed is Cameron's confession from Episode 1 about how he's a bubble boy and everything is completely reused from his audition tape (Or maybe it's the other way around. I guess it depends on which was animated first). It's the exact same dialogue, animations, and everything. The only thing that's different is obviously the background and the filter over his voice used for the confessions. I'm sure other people have noticed, but I figured it was worth pointing out and I thought it was interesting.

Instead of saying "kiss your butt goodbye," Cameron could've said, "tell your dad to kiss his championship rings goodbye!"

Ah yes my favorite summer tradition watching 2-3 hours of a total drama review despite it not being my hyper fixation anymore. Can’t wait for next year

Ok i'm the only one who is flabbergastered that Switchie knows how to play a guitar and be so good at it?

Mike is super weird because like, he's obviously exaggerated, but in the same way all of these characters are. For the type of show this is, he's surprisingly good system representation. A lot of the nuances are pretty accurate too, even in places like season 4.5, all stars, and although the cartoon evil of Mal relies too much on negative system stereotypes, the appearance of the system's headspace is neat and not too far off, even if the resolution to Mal's plot with the reset button was extremely inaccurate and a temporary fix at best, and actually offensive at worst. As far as revenge goes, a lot of the exaggerations, outside of the more tropey personality ones that every character has, make sense for the medium and audience, like the obvious switches, which in real life are often more subtle, and the triggers for certain people to front, which in real life can sometimes force an immediate switch but usually, in my experience, just make one far more likely rather than outright forcing it most of the type, but maybe Mike's system just has particularly strong fronting triggers. Plus, Mike's system clearly knows about each other, and is demonstrated in All Stars to have some level of inter-system communication, so it's weird that at least some of them wouldn't try to pretend to be Mike until Mal. I feel like Vito and Manitoba could pull off a half decent Mike, at least for a little while, and even if they're not all as uncomfortable as Mike about being openly a system, you'd think at least one of them would do it thinking it'd give them a better chance at the money to not be so open. I'd guess Mike would ask them to pretend to be him, or they'd have some conversation about it, and Vito would pretend to be Mike for a couple episodes before getting so fed up with it he just decides "fuck it" and acts so obnoxiously himself just to spite Mike, but perhaps that's delving a bit into fanfic territory. Ironically, despite being a system ourselves, we haven't introjected Mike or anyone in his system despite liking most of them a lot. Instead we've only gotten Dawn.

Dakota had the most character growth in this season of any of them starting as a spoiled brat who only thought of herself to becoming a well rounded person.

Jo had the potential to be a much more interesting Eva, but at the same time I really don’t think the writers would have been able to flesh out her potential struggles with dysphoria (which is pretty obviously what the writers were trying to get at, at least in my eyes). This season had the potential to be good, but between the radioactive animals and other shit completely ruining any chance of me being able to suspend disbelief, and the lowered episode count ruining any chance of significant character development, I think they seriously dropped the ball with these contestants. Also, I appreciated the Sinead O’Connor joke.

Kinda weird, but this is my favorite season, and people should talk about it way more. When I was younger I never really paid attention to this season. My favorite was definitely the Sha-Legend, Lightning. I think this is the best 13 episode format season and the pre merge boots of this season carried (including Scott, Jo, and Lightning). I also really liked the Scott and Fang rivalry. The only problems I had with this season is Chris becoming insane and Dakota becoming a mutant. Other than that, great season for me to watch!

This season was overall very solid with a great cast and definitely stands up even compared to the original cast

one note that's funny is that the love "triangle" between Zoe Mike and Anne-Maria isn't really that because Vito and Mike are separate. DID systems can have different relationships with different alters, one person can be dating headmate A and another be dating headmate B. it can work. heck sometimes the headmates can even date each other.

can't wait for the ridoncaulous race video. its probably my favourite season and all of the new casst is pretty great. After watching the entirety of the series years after the initial tv release with my brother, this season saved the memory of the show. Pahkitew was so disguntingly bad that we were both physically tired after watching it. I could write more of why i love that season, but i think ill wait on your review. One thing though, you better recognize the police academy girls winning as the canon ending.

Jo is arguably one of my favourite characters in the entire show, specifically because of those small comments, it kind of feels like they wanted to implement a trans character and speaking from my own experience even if it isnt canon that Jo is trans they easily fooled me for a long while being as I've had similar experiences, plus when I introduced this show to my friends I mentioned how Jo was a trans woman

Been waiting for this since i watched the TDWT one (was like a month ago or something lol). All I know is that this won't disappoint and it will be entertaining as always
