In 1982, the United States set up a border blockade on Highway 1 in the northern most part of the Florida Keys, effectively shutting down traffic to the archipelago. This angered the local government of the Florida Keys so much, that they decided to secede from the Union.

The Conch Republic successfully intercepted a MiG-23 with a Pitts Special. The MiG-21 was a Soviet jet fighter first tested in the early 1970s. The Pitts Special was a biplane first flown in 1944. The pilot, Fred R Cabanas, was given legendary status amongst his fellow Conchers.

If you want to talk about my micronation, ask me about it, it is in France (Empire Francillien, or Francillian Empire). It has a very rich history (10 micronations in 6 months, before this one was established), and is a direct democracy (the title of emperor is just honorific)
