Hey Dr..my sister has panic disorder ,,,,she has severe agrophibia even dosnt go to washroom becz the fear of panic attack,,,..she was on sertaline for one month her panic attack frequency decreased little bit but phobia is increased very much plz hlp
So what kind of anxiety is this if it's not categorized as health anxiety? I don't think its generalized anxiety either. I have GERD and all this time I thought I have health anxiety.
This just made me feel better. My anxiety/panic attacks ALWAYS lead to me being extremely bloated, gassy and Belching an insane abnormal amount. I’m reading comments, and I’m glad to see I’m not alone. Thank you for posting this!
This is what I experience almost every single day. When my stomach aches my anxiety triggers and vise versa happens too. What I hate the most is when I get panic attacks because of my anxiety. It's hard really especially at night when I'm lying down and ready to sleep. Just like now I watch this to calm myself. I hope every single one of us will get better and be able to fight our anxities.
Thank you and God bless you, Patata. The storm doesn't last always. I'm really eager to fight this battle, control my anxiety, and take back my life. I hope we can all do it together!
I'd been to the hospital with the most intense stomach pain several times in my life, only to be told I'm perfectly healthy. I finally met a doctor who explained it could be stress. I was shocked that was even a possibility. Therapy has really helped me.
Hey I hope they did some kind of research like blood tests or gastroscopy before they concluded "it's all in your head". Gastritis can give such a strong pain but it can be treated very well.
When I'm anxious my stomach talks, it gurgles and whines, it's crazy to listen to. Only been the last year, I get gas moving through my intestines, when my anxiety is severe my whole gut and nervous system burns throughout my body 😢
@Lady-hi7mr omg unfortunately I know Exactly that. mine noticed mine in Feb of 2023& it comes & goes. I Def need to change some things but it was Never this bad.😢.. also God Bless & hope ya get better 🙂
This is 100% true. I want to try and help somebody by telling my story. About 4 years ago I started having really bad anxiety, was finding it hard to go to work or be around people or perform any kind of task. I went to a few doctors and told them that I feel like my anxiety is worse when things are going wrong with my gut. None of them batted an eyelid until the last one who told me pretty much the same thing as this video. She recommended me some books to read so I read them, and did a whole lifestyle change. My wife and I started making all fermented foods, our own kombucha, our own kefir, our own kimchi, fermented veggies, I cut out sugar, I cut out booze, started exercising EVERY day, and I can't tell you what a difference it all made. Much like this video said it doesn't eliminate the anxiety, but it puts you back in the drivers seat, it gave me power over the anxiety so that I could deal with that. 4 years later I feel 1000% better than what I did then. I'm not completely without anxiety but I have much, much more control to the point where it isn't impacting my life more than I imagine a normally 'anxious' person would be. I also was able to start re-introducing some naughty things, sweets, alcohol, and just learning what I can get away with without it impacting me. If your anxiety stems from gut problems like in this video, please, tackle your gut health first, and see what a huge difference it will make!
@@tapasibhattacharya3053 There's a lot of youtube channels that are pretty helpful, can't remember which exactly because it was a few years ago now! But search for kimchi, the kombucha is a personal favorite because it's quite easy to maintain if you keep on top of it and it's an awesome alternative to sugary drinks/cordials.
@@gillianjones2143 I read Guts by Julie Enders and The Clever Guts Diet by Michael Mosley. Both were great and had a lot of the same info, I prefered the Michael Mosley one just because it was a bit more straight to the point info which is how I prefer to learn. The Julie Enders one was great but the writing style was very 'fluffy' - dunno how else to put it sorry. But that's just personal preference, both had awesome information.
The upper pain in my stomach feels like an ulcer from all the stress . It can be sharp or dull but noticed when I don’t have anxiety or feel depressed I don’t feel it really …
Thank you, Dr. It has been 8 months I have been suffering from this. Fear of death, fear of night, fear of loneliness, fear of cancer, shortness of breath, excessive burping all the time, gassy stomach...you covered it all.
Cortisol gets a bad rap. It's blamed for anxiety, high blood pressure, stroke. Sugar intake is one of the classic triggers for cortisol release. Regular, high sugar intakes may keep your levels elevated... Blood pressure caused by peripheral vasoconstriction, fast heart beat that elevate your blood pressure...
You're not by yourself, I promise you. I've experienced the things the doc is talking about and more. I constantly have butterflies in my stomach but Hydroxyzine helps keep it at bay. When I'm really feeling scared about certain things in my life, I get this feeling of knots in my stomach that's constant and it's miserable! I felt compelled to reply to your comment because I feel an angst there. The empath in me just wanted to reach out to you so you won't feel alone. And since I can't hug you in person, I'm giving you a big warm RU-vid hug.☺💙
u really arent alone! my issue is the fear of my stomach or body making noises in quiet rooms, this led me to failing my exam and now im re doing it this year, i still have this issue but i kept inside and sufferedn in silence but once i told the counsellers and expressed how i felt and how it effects my ability to work properly and how its a heavy burden on my shoulder, they took it seriously so now i have extra time and my own room and also i have a pass that i show to the teacher i feel panicky or need to go to the toilet. Wish you the best of luck
I’ve been experiencing horrible anxiety since I was a teen and now it’s just full blown panic attacks. I was diagnosed with gastritis when I was in high school and I stop taking medication for it a few years ago. After watching this video I can’t help but think all this anxiety is being triggered by my stomach. This made me feel so much better. When I get in a state of anxiety I focus on my heart beat which makes me have a panic attack. Which then makes me feel like my chest is tight and I convince myself something is wrong with my heart. This comment section made me sigh of relief. I hope everyone here finds peace and works through there medical problems. I wouldn’t wish this feeling on anyone
I keep saying this. Every single person I know that has anxiety as GI issues. RN here. In nursing school we were thought that IBS has a correlation with mental health issues.
Yeah well, as someone with GI issues, being in pain and nauseous all the time, it's no surprise that we may be dealing with anxiety a lot. Wouldn't anyone? This 'mind/gut' connection sounds nice, but it's obvious the science is still lacking in this area, so it feels like a way to stifle the conversation into investigating a patient's problems by throwing SSRIs at them that probably won't work
@@Caleb-il7om Yes. If you have GERD, you will also develop anxiety (not health anxiety according to Dr. Tracey). So I was wondering what kind of anxiety is this then? Because with GERD, its symptoms are very close to the feeling of dying so you worry about having a heart attack and many more. Those with GERD know exactly what I'm talking about.
@@vanillaice7576 Yes, but clearly every GI issue is not GERD. Also, I feel like that's a strange example. If I knew I had GERD and was diagnosed, why would I be worried about a heart attack? I'd know where the pain is coming from. From my experience, I haven't been diagnosed yet so I know my undiagnosed status leads to my anxiety that's different from other manifestations
This is spot on! It’s a vicious never ending circle until you start dealing with your acid reflux and eating foods that help your microbiom like probiotic yogurt, bone broth and butter and eggs. Trust me I literally went through all this which started at the beginning of the quarantine. On top of that the acid reflux made me short of breath! My anxiety sky rocket until I took the first steps of healing my gut and dealing with my acid reflux. I’m doing much better now since I started making changes. You can do it! Don’t give up!
@@diyak2182 Reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a healthier life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Day or night, when taking a walk, when reading, on the phone, before sleep etc sit or lie down and observe your breath. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Avoid constipation as it affects the mind instanly. Reduce spicey-oily foods, drink warm water early morning on an empty stomach and eat less at night. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.
I suffered from IBS then started getting panic attacks and was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder. Cognitive therapy, relaxation techniques, rhythmic exercise, music and meditation have changed my life! I’m happy to say my IBS is gone too after 20 years of suffering from this embarrassing disorder! I did take probiotics for about 3 months around the same time. Your videos are so informative. I’m am happier then I’ve ever been in my life because I realized self care, cognitive therapy and alternative medicine could cure what traditional medicine never accomplished.
@@keilyngonzalez8750 none my doctors told me there was nothing they could do for me. I went to four different doctors and they all said the same thing!
Hi Gina! I also have IBS that triggered my generalized anxiety. In my country, treatment with psychologists and psychiatrists are absurdly expensive, so I'm trying to learn myself techniques, such as meditation and breathing to try to "fix myself". Do you have any video or app to recommend? Some sort of therapy that could be done at home? Thank you!! 💚
@@CerinAmroth Headspace is on you tube and also an app. There are all kinds of guided meditation on RU-vid. Taking prebiotics and probiotics helps s lot too. Avoid dairy and drink lots of lemon water too. Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be.
Omg. Literally anytime my anxiety heightens or I get nervous for no reason, I have to poop so bad. And then when I'm in public places I always need to know where the nearest bathroom is just in case my anxiety comes on and I have to poop. ugh it's sucks. It's like a vicious circle. It's hard to enjoy life when I have stomach issues AND anxiety.
I’ve been having this anxiety at night and even getting anxious in the afternoon because I know I won’t sleep at night . This is so informative. Thank you
I’ve been waking up and experiencing stomach or bowel discomfort which often leads me to thinking I need to go to the toilet ASAP. And now every morning as soon as I open my eyes, I immediately think about it and even just thinking, if leads me to these symptoms! 🤯😣
You are a great communicator. I'm clear of a 4-month period that started with stomach pain and weight loss followed by anxiety-related issues. I took acid suppressors, I changed my diet then took biome restoring pills. This, combined with meditation and breathing strategies I believe helped with the brain-gut fallout from the initial stomach issue. It is reassuring to hear your explanations in calm, easy-to-understand language. No doubt you've helped others with their challenges or this multi-faceted issue. Thank you. ❤
No one ever understands what I go through. Seeing this video and comments is comforting, had no idea this many people are going through the same thing.
Anxiety also releases stress hormone (cortisol), which causes the body to produce extra levels of stomach acid. That acidity causes the lining of the esophagus to become irritated, and this can lead to stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, and in severe cases, stress-induced ulcers.👍
If cortisol is causing the body to produce extra levels of stomach acid what can we do to calm that down? I get all these symptoms frequently. In this case am I suppose to be treating the anxiety first or take acid reflux medication to calm the stomach in order to lower the anxiety from all the stomach issue. I feel like it becomes a cycle. How will you break this cycle?
Have also been affected by cortisol. I have read a lot about stress and anxiety causing stomach issues and bloating. Deep breathing and walking is the best I have right now
There is a lot of evidence painting in the other direction. That acidity actually decreases, which makes more sense really, diverting digestive power away from stomach when stressed and instead channel blood to the brain and limbs.
Thank you so much for explaining this to me. I've been having anxiety attacks which turns into panic attacks, and dealing with a sensitive stomach. This makes so much sense now the way you broke everything down. Thank you so much 🙏
Nerves are connected to everything and when your digestion is inflamed it affects the nerves that are connected etc... and it affects your nourishment that you are lacking which affects your brain.
When I was in third grade, almost every Tuesday I had stomach problems and didn't go to school. It was the day of PE/gym class, the teacher always gave me a hard time because I was overweight... Those were my first anxiety symptoms, good thing I'm being treated now.
Gym class created so much unnecessary stress for kids. Exercise should be fun not punitive! And many gym teachers openly tease and bully bigger children. I’m glad ur getting help now!
Thanks for addressing this topic, as someone who is a mental health professional. Paul's story is very similar to my own. I struggled with GERD and anxiety for 15 years and I can attest to the fact that the mind and gut connection is a real thing. After I learned how to holistically heal my anxiety through mindset work and techniques, my GERD disappeared. It's so important to remember that all of our body is interconnected and if there is a physical symptom showing up for you, there is a mental and/or emotional problem causing it and vice versa. Thanks for sharing this video 💛
@@Bryan-il1vu I did not have to take any medications for my anxiety. I was able to heal myself through natural methods. Anxiety medications can be a helpful tool for some, it just wasn't for me, though. I'm wishing you all the best 💛
Whenever I have anxious thoughts I notice that I'm usually hungry, and I immediately calm down after I'm full. So I have to remind myself to eat or take care of myself in any way.
Lol i'm also often just hungry when i'm falling to the depressive thinking patterns. This adhd is kinda dumb though, but yea, i'm getting better with selfcare i guess Today was a good day c:
Hi🙋🏻♀️ currently being treated by a holistic Dr and gi surgeon Your might have a blood sugar issue. Ask your dr about it. Hy hypoglycemia and pre diabetes can cause your symptoms.
@@avill012 hmm i started again with this food tracker thingy today. So, i'm very sure, i lack quite a bit ressources. Uhm and low sugar looks a lot different for me xD Well, most of my heavy tiredness problems are related to a bunch of low ressources. Magnesium, iron, b12, d, proteins, sugar, whatever. It pretty much feels always the same, unless i see it directly with some little self-monotoring stuff. It's also very normal for me, to fall apart from a healthy diet, i guess. But today i should have enough of pretty much everything there is. At some point food is also the only thing you care about in the most developed countries. But i guess i'm not the only struggling with their basic needs from time to time. Anxiety stuff also happens more regularly to me, if i'm already more brocken than usual, because it's then getting harder to be as ready as usually. (Whereas my "usually" is also heavily affected by adhd)
Very interesting I usually feel strangely relaxed when I am hungry and I feel I can do anything. And sometimes when I eat food I feel bad mainly highly processed food.
My physical issues doesn't induce anxiety, usually it's the other way around. I get diarrhea or get nauseous whenever I'm nervous and then these physical issues also create shortness of breathe then leads to more anxiety. It's a vicious cycle that I can't seem to break
Def a two way street. IBS all started with work burnout/stress and then the IBS brought out all kinds of old anxiety issues that I thought had gone away in my life prior. I checked for Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth, GI Map Stool Test, H Pylori, Colonoscopy, Endoscopy, Autoimmune Tests, Thyroid, Hormone Test and all came back normal. I went 80% whole food plant based, no sugar, gluten or alcohol, take probiotics, add Vitamin D, and still suffer from BLOATING and fatigue. Looking back at my life I have def struggled with anxiety. I think I need to acknowledge that despite all these positive habits I have in place there is an underlying anxiety issue at play that I just cant get a hold of with lifestyle/diet/meditation/praying/therapy/nature/community. I am considering trying medication as another tool and continuing these healthy practices.
Not all doctors are smart some are sheep they don’t think outside the box they only follow what they are taught.thank you dr you saving lots of people with this video
So glad I found this. I have GERD and IBS, hardly ever get more than 3-4 hours of sleep at night, and anxiety. The past 3 years were hell. I was working 50 -60 hours a week and caring for my mother. She passed last year from a bowel blockage. Since then, my stomach issues have gone through the roof (as have my anxiety issues apparently). I’ve been so sick 2x that I had to go to the ER. Once in February and once in July. I am sure some of my anxiety comes from my job (OTR truck driver) and the fact that I don’t want to do that job anymore, but I have bills to pay. This video is one more tool in my arsenal of help which I have been seeking.
This is spot on. It seems that every time I have a stomach flare up it triggers my anxiety. I figured the two might be related one way or another but I wasn’t sure, this confirms it. I also have GERD and like the example you gave, I too was worried that I might have stomach cancer. I gained a bit more understanding from this video.

Also check for sleep apnea: My cousin had GERD really bad, constantly coughing and he had high blood pressure, which he took medication for. He also took acid reducers, but they did not work really. Then when he got a CPAP, it took a whole year, but then no more GERD, ZERO ZIP, not even a little. Plus the blood pressure normalized naturally, he does not need medication for it anymore. So this was just because he basically got strangled (gasping for breath) every night, that stressed him out a lot and gave him GERD and high blood pressure. He did not have such serious apnea by the way, but using a CPAP helped a lot. The crazy thing was that no doctor ever told him that both issues could be related to him stopping to breathe at night and that a CPAP could have such radical benefits, instead of looking for the cause, they (sadly typical) only treated the symptoms.
Hi, Tracey, I can't help but cry when watching this video because this has been my own experience since early 2019. A case of food poisoning resulted in a h, pylori infection that left me unable to keep food down and with severe GI issues, I started to experience severe anxiety and panic attacks related to my reflux pain. It's now been whell over a year and I'm still recovering and trying to understand my stomach, I have been left lactose intollerant after all of this aswell, truely my microbiome has been ravaged by the events of 2019. This list of foods is so well layed out I'm going to write these up in my journal
Hi...sorry to hear your struggling...I too experienced Hplyori in 2009. Its was going downhill also...but I had an endoscopy done ...turns out I have Ibs,,gastritis,,n sensitivity to gluten,,,I was already lactose intolerant so I changed my diet 360° ,,,I doing 80% a lil better but because stress happens w life I still get flare ups even though I do everything I'm suppose to.. I hope you get better.
I can really relate also, i have heavy depression and anxiety and if i eat any dairy, gluten, processed, sugary food my anxiety always hits hard. its got to the point where im afraid of eating and lost so much weight (was already under weight) Im a 39 year old male and a husband and a father of a 2 year old and im struggling big time. Im on 60mg Prozac after being on 225mg Effexor which stopped working recently. Its only been 3 days on the Prozac and im hoping for the best but life is so hard atm. I have everything i could possibly want but not my health and its killing me
Wow. I have to say. Over the weekend I had a hefty meal and had a bad time digesting my food. My chest felt like caving in and my anxiety shot thru the roof. For the rest of the weekend I have had a horrific time fighting this anxiety. This is most definitely a wake up call to be healthy. My brother went through the same thing and now it eases me a bit to know it could be the underlying cause of my Anxiety. I will work hard and choose what to eat especially when it comes time to bed. I don’t know what to do with my anxiety it’s so exhausting I feel like I will die every day and I’m just so tiered I can’t enjoy my day with my family I feel a feeling of dread and doom I can’t keep going like this
What a great video! I’m literally in hell right now, at 46 having lost everything due to the pandemic. Living with Mom as I haven’t worked in 3 years. Just when I lost 75 pounds, best shape in 15 years, started having GERD symptoms. 2 ER visits, nothing wrong with my heart. I’ve had maybe 5 episodes in 6 weeks, but the 2 worse were definitely from eating the wrong thing, once 4 hours after soda & Butter popcorn, the last one 5 days ago after a banana & toasted egg sandwich that I don’t know what happened, but 5 minutes later I couldn’t climb stairs and had 3 jolts in my chest followed by 30 minutes of rapid heartbeat. Finally saw a doctor, prescribed Dexilant & Zoloft- everyone is wondering why I’m hesitating to start- now way am I maybe going through a month of hell before things get better! Going to see a gastroenterologist soon and we will see, but I guess the panic will remain for a while….Good luck to you all going through this crap, it’s not funny 🙏❤️😥
Thank you so much for this video it is 100% on point. I have ulcerative colitis and it has given me so much anxiety over the years that I never want to leave the house. Needing to always know where a restroom is or the what if I don’t make it thoughts have held me back from living a normal life. The sad thing is I have four boys that I can’t ever take anywhere because my anxiety is so bad in public. All the medications taken over 10 years since diagnosed while pregnant with twins have only made things worse for me. I believe it has destroyed my microbiome to the point where I need some serious self healing. I am now off all medications and the only thing that has helped was removing sugar and grains from my diet, and that is where I’m at in my life trying to heal through diet and exercise. I do believe the body can heal itself if you treat it right. Fasting is also something I have incorporated into my healing journey. I wish everyone the best of luck on healing and please don’t give up on yourself find what works for you and stick with it!!! God bless :)

I figured out she’s reading off the screen using an app called teleprompter or something. The content is pre-written and presented most professionally, indeed!
Honestly speaking, I had all the stomach related problems discussed in the video. I kept on taking omeprazole for a year on a doctor's prescription. One day my life got changed when I met a psychiatrist and he gave me an antidepressant From that day upto now, I haven't got any stomach related problems. The antidepressant is like elixir of life for me. My digestion has improved to the great extent.
Glad you got off the Omeprazole! Very bad drug. Used long-term you become vitamin and mineral deficient, and your gut bio will become totally messed up.

We can pull through it, we can overcome it. People around say depression isnt real and its only on our minds. But only we know that its very real and we fight our own battle. You need to understand that you are not alone.
I would really like to congratulate you on this video. It was extremely helpful. I am a medical student in Greece and I have to admit that the information that you shared on the screen was very invaluable. You can't imagine how many patients visit the emergency department complaining about stomach ache. The majority of them do suffer from anxiety disorders and many of them had experienced at least one panic attack. Needless to say, we need too much time to make them tell the intern that they are nervous about daily problems such as their job, personal life, their kids etc. Dr Marks, you are an excellent scientist and I feel very proud of you because not only do you focus the most on the latest surveys but you also inform people about common psychiatric illnesses. Thank you very much indeed. My best regards from Thessaloniki, Greece.
Have dealt with digestive issues my whole life and these past two years I have gotten terrible anxiety attacks and the majority have been when I had really bad stomach pains, loose stools and bloating. Thankyou so much for this ,your presentations are so concise and well done. It's taken me far too long to realise the immense gut brain connection ,as soon as I become slightly stressed /anxious my digestion and IBS become a frightening torture . This is very helpful, I suffered from OCD from age 10-15 and but now at the age of 18 symptoms of pure OCD and intrusive thoughts I had came back. I was recently diagnosed with GERD and I've finally found a connection.
I’ve had stomach issues as long as I can remember. I can’t have ice-cream with cake or I’ll suffer for hours, but I tolerate milk alone just fine. I’ve had all the usual tests, procedures, etc. and everything’s normal. As an adult I’ve been very selective about the foods I do consume in order to get the nutrients my body needs and it’s paid off. Even my blood tests show completely normal or better than normal for my age. There seems to be no known medical cause for my digestive issues so it must be psychological. I’ve been taking probiotics since mid-2000, drink Kombucha, whole organic yogurt, KimChi, Sauerkraut and other healthy bacteria foods, & rarely consume sugar, etc. but still it persists. I’ve come to the conclusion it’s from childhood abuse & trauma (highly dysfunctional family scapegoat). Although therapy has helped a great deal I’m still suffering with chronic stomach pain, and lifelong ambivalence towards eating.
I been going in and out of ER for years for Panic disorder. I never had panic attacks until I was diagnosed with Gerd and I couldn’t trust healthcare system to help me because they said I was in great shape and but they missed Gerd for years. I’m in National Guard and have a deployment now and they don’t know about my anxiety because I would be kicked out. These videos have been helping more then my therapist and GI have. It gives me a better understanding of my health. Hopefully I keep this mindset when I’m gone.
This video and reading people’s comments actually help me a lot. I have Gerd and a hiatus hernia and most times have terrible symptoms which lead to stomach cancer thoughts. The only way for me to get relief is acid blocking medication. This then feeds into more anxiety as I hate taken this medication because we don’t know what health implications they will have in the future. Anxiety and stress are awful and I wouldn’t wish them on my worst enemy. I read somewhere in the comments that replacing negative thoughts with good ones can help. This seems to be logical as our gut and brain are linked. Also, I think we can all relate to having good thoughts in our heads such as a nice memory or just thinking of our loved ones. I wish all good health and well-being.
I really like your channel. I've been suffering from anxiety and it makes my stomach upset. And hurts. And almost feels like I'm gonna puke. I have anxiety cause I'm afraid of puking, then it makes my stomach even worse. Thanks for the relief! I appreciate it. ❤
Persistent pain and pain on the right side of the stomach can be symptoms of a gall stone or ulcer. You really should mention these symptoms to your physician immediately.
@@mabailey5938 I wouldn't say that to someone with health anxiety of course they should check in with a doctor but Freaking them out isn't going to help them I know from experience.
I’m 18 and was recently diagnosed with colitis after a huge flare up. I thought that was the hard bit but it boosted my anxiety and made me powerless to do anything (I’m not a lazy person) and I’d develop an anxiety towards my future. I’m seeing a therapist and hopefully getting better 👍
@@wildhunt2235 stabbing, wrenching, gut busting pain and as I got worse it was followed by an urgency to go to the toilet. Where I’d excrete blood and mucus. If you have any returning pain to that area I urge you look into it. If you have the pains and wipe blood it is very very likely and go to the doctor. I suffered for 2 years and nearly died.
This video describes me so accurately. For YEARS, I dealt with GERD and sleepless nights thinking I had something seriously wrong with me, but I never knew that it was mostly just anxiety playing tricks on my mind. I've had endoscopies and colonoscopies that showed nothing, so I'm now taking probiotics and cleaning up my diet to heal my gut. Thank you, Dr. Marks. This video is a Godsend!

This is so important, so many health issues are being dismissed by doctors and blamed on mental health. Sending patients away to get therapy and putting them on antidepressants, which doesn't help and leaves patients suffering for months or years.
Thank you for this Dr. Tracey! I’ve had GERD for some years now and when ever it gets bad I always get anxiety and start think the worst. I also start feeling new symptoms and when I try to Google these, it’s always something life threatening. Now I know that my mind is behind playing these tricks on me.
Bro I just want my normal life back am only 18 I didn’t get to live yet goddamn I tested for lpr and acid reflux and they saw nothing but I feel stuff coming back up all the time and my throat makes gargling noises the symptoms go away sometimes when I play basketball but the first time I developed these symptoms was after basketball I believe my house probably has mold or something I am so confused I just want to know what’s wrong with me
great work thanks for making these videos!! I'm proof... my GI pain and GERD were written off ass anxiety... turned out I had a giant massive paraumbilical hernia that my GI dr missed and just assumed I was anxious and overweight! ugh!
This information is so needed. It helps a lot of people having gerd and anxiety at the same time. Thanks a lot. Today I feel the same gerd and anxiety and I saw your video. I will see a doc for my gerd first. Thankyou for putting this video ❤️
Thank God I found this video. Now I understand what I am going through. Everything she said was on point of what I'm going through and the fact that I now understand it, makes me feel relieved and lessens my anxiety. At least I know I'm not having a heart attack every time this happens. Again, thank you very much for explaining this. I will try to eat healthy from now on and will work out too.
This is the best description ive heard for these symptoms. Ive been suffering GERD, then Anxeity, lost weight without trying, caused more anxiety, thought i had a disease like cancer, then IBS SYMPTOMS Started all stemmed from anxiety and the gerd cycle!!! Got on ppi's for the gerd is helping so far. 2 months into them will take for 1 more month to make sire its gone. Now work on deep breathing, relaxation, meditation, eating cleaner, less sugar, snd controlling thoughts to be more mindful. ❤ love this well done Dr
I cut out spicy food from my diet (i still allow myself to eat it, just a lot less often now) and i noticed a huge improvement. I noticed spicy food would make my stomach feel uncomfortable and basically mimic the feeling of having anxiety/butterflies, but also after watching this video, it makes sense that it could have been actual anxiety since it was irritating to my gut
Such a great video 😍. I knew there was some kind of connection between your stomach and anxiety. Whenever I get a panic attack, my stomach feels super nervous and uneasy before an anxiety attack. I have gotten so much better with my panic attacks with breathing techniques and yoga, and just trying to have less stress in my life. I started taking probiotics a couple years ago just for general health, but I did notice a difference in the severity and number of panic attacks that I have since taking the probiotics.
I really wish you were my dr. My psychiatrist of 20 years put me on Xanax for years and now says I don’t need them and I’m having withdrawals from them. This is tearing my stomach up.
My psychiatrist did the same thing, he said I don’t need klonopin anymore after he prescribed it to me for 13 yrs. He told me me that if I didn’t like it, that he would be understanding if I would find a different psychiatrist.... so I cried my arse off and found a psychiatrist that prescribes me klonopin. I have very bad panic attacks where I couldn’t leave the house btw. I take an antidepressant also.
Thank you so much! dear Tracey Marks doctor! I've been to the ER almost 10 times in Chicago and the doctors don't seem to understand me! They couldn't even get me to GI! I can't work because of several panic attacks at work! I can only help myself then get to know nature of the problem!!! Hugs to the guys! We are not alone!
I got really stressed about an upcoming event a few years and my stomach was a mess, felt like it was tied up in knots. After a few weeks, I got to thinking about the “knots” part, took a muscle relaxer, and that was the end of the problem. Another thing that can cause paranoia/anxiety is low sodium. If your electrolytes are out of balance your brain won’t work properly.
what us a muscle relaxer? I have anxiety and as soon as I get a panic attack i get irrirable colon with diarrheao and nausea and feel tensed up in stomach
I am a patient of hand tremor, panic attack and stomach problems , always mucus in my stool for a long years .I am under the treatment of a psychiatrist who has given me medicine on seratonin. But recently I come to know from many videos that what is the actual problem.I have taken their advice and deeply focus on my diet.Thank you lots doc. With my love. I have started Yoga, breathing exercises, taking brown rice, quinoa, nuts.following ayurvedic diet for six months.Iam better now.I am from India, Kolkata.
I have experienced stomach ache.. Everytime I hear noise and people getting angry... I'm always stressed. I can't bear hearing someone throwing things because they're angry.
Puti, Life and people will never happen exactly the way you want. Adjust or life will get tough. Take a journey inwards. Reduce negative thoughts. Its quite simple with a little determination. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts and anxiety For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. Deep inhalation-exhalation is not needed. Whenever you are free during the day or night before sleep sit or lie down, be still and observe your breath. Being still reduces negative thoughts. Make the above practice a permanent habit to have a good life. Best wishes and prayers. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor
Yes Yes Yes. ‼️‼️ I love that you made this video!! I’ve been trying to explain the importance of the digestive system and how it connects to anxiety and depression‼️ You are THEE BEST ❣️
Ive been to the er 2 times this week from this exact thing. Thought i for sure had stomach cancer but ct scan blood and urine says im just fine. This year has created terrible anxiety for everyone im sure. I never knew til the doctor told me that anxiety can create such physical symptoms. Wish i would have seen this 2 weeks ago and i might have saved a lot on er visits lol. Dr. Google may be free but you definitely pay with your anxiety 😆
My stomach pains caused me so much anxiety and fear, which negatively affected my sleep. I also started having scary dreams that wakes me up with palpitation and sounds in my ears. Doctor said everything was fine but Dr google made me think it was stomach or colon cancer. I even started to dream about my fears. But I am better now. Had to deal with the anxiety and negative thots.
@@bukayomi1 To feel better reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath and mind [brain] are closely related and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. For a better life sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Do the practice without any expectations. Let change happen. When taking a walk, sitting in a park, when reading, before sleep etc observe your breath sensations. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Reduce negative social media. Avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes. Senior Counsellor.
This is validating for me because I get heartburn after eating omelette and also anxiety flares up at the same time. The issue is that the anxiety lasts longer than the heartburn but I’ve definitely been noticing it now. This helps me to see anxiety as a result of the food and not life circumstances which makes me feel not as bad.
Thank you so much Dr. Marks. You explained health anxiety versus this anxiety very well. I was thinking I was having health anxiety. I think my Gerd (actually LPR) def ramped up my anxiety. Every time I get a flareup I get very anxious. Never felt this way before in my life. So I can definitely see a connection.
About a year ago, I had unbearable anxiety that didn't stop for days until I bought some magnesium citrate and pooped every hour for 24 hours lol. It was an incredible 180 from thinking I was going to be stuck in that anxiety forever to feeling normal again.
I'm really gratefull for this video now i had spent 2days in hospital en always the result was that i'm fine but later doctor told me that i'm suffering from anxiety disorder may God heal our anxiety disorder
Years ago, I experienced anxiety then abdominal cramping right after. I was sent to the ER due to excruciating pain, the cramping was all over my abdomen. When I reached the hospital, both my anxiety and pain subsided. My vital signs and lab results came out normal. I was sent home afterwards without finding anything significant from the tests
Maybe one day psychiatrist will understand diet plays a big role. I was misdiagnosed for 10yrs with general anxiety disorder because of inflammation from the food I was eating. I changed my diet by lowering sugar, salt, and processed foods. Cutting down or process foods had the biggest impact. It causes inflammation in the body. My allergies went away also.
If you are above 40 and start to have sudden panic attacks and anxiety, check if you have hiatal hernia. It irritates the vagus nerve and is often otherwise completely asymptomatic. It can also cause acid reflux, that makes the nerve irritation worse. If you sit on your couch, slumped over and suddenly get heart palpitations, anxiety and mild panic attack out of nowhere, those going away when you sit up for few minutes...
What about how some people feel a bubbly gassy feeling? What about how depression and anxiety make the appetite feeling lessened, I sometimes can't tell when I'm hungry or if it's a stomach ache? P. S.: I love your channel!
I have GI tract issues and GERD and IBS. Changing diet and taking PPI did jack for me. The moment I started CBT to manage my anxiety, my physically symptoms went away overnight. I now sleep 7-8 hours per night uninterrupted. No pills, no meds. Managing the anxiety is key.
Oh boy, I know something about this one. When my anxiety hsows up, my stomach turns upside down, with all kinds of terrible symptoms. It's even kinda funny how it all can go away in a matter of minutes when I relax enough, or stressful situation resolves.

I seem to have the opposite problem - my GERD is *only* triggered by my anxiety. I *never* have stomach problems normally, but then every few months I get anxious and my stomach reacts. I am about to start treatment for anxiety, but I genuinely think that my anxiety triggers GERD which then triggers my anxiety which then triggers my GERD. In being treated for GERD I worry that I am treating myself for a symptom of my anxiety, and not visa versa.
Omg this helps so much. Thank you so much! I can relate absolutely to Paul. I always called my anxiety “health anxiety”. I too have GERD and I’m taking Omeprazole. But I also have anxiety and I focus on every symptom I feel in my body. I have fear of taking Zoloft that was prescribed to me too. I’m a mess all around, and now I found out I have diabetes. I’m terrified and on my way to a panic attack any moment.
