This guy is the BEST. Lines like, "You can't have an intimate relationship just cuz you want one," or "That’s a lie that only lasts so long." I LOVE this man's lectures!!! Very rare to see everything put together soooooo well. The lectures are like a kaleidoscope, where each turns over and relates to the others. Another metaphor: he's putting together a puzzle, and it's an existential puzzle. Aristotle would heartily approve.

San Juan de la Cruz would approve it too. He was the one who coined "the Dark Night of the Soul " in his poetry. Even people who are not religious use that sentence for spiritual awakening.

💯% agreed, Tim Fletcher IS The BEST. As a mental health addiction recovery nurse and journey my own recovery, he expands upon every milestone we endure along an addicts journey to wellness. Plus at the end of each topic, he illustrates a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels, a parable ✝️🙏🏽💛

Why do people with complex rush into relationships? 1. Deep loneliness. 2. Proving to themselves that they are lovable: I must be in a relationship all the time (this is because of SHAME). Dealing with shame is important. 3. Deepest need of love and validation was not met in childhood and you passed it as something you didn't care for. As an adult you start to feel a longing to be loved, validated and connect. 4. Desire for security and dependence. Someone you can lean on for a while. You feel the need for stability. Especially for single parents. 5. It can be a distraction for others who've been a drug addict. 6. No boundaries

Emotional addiction is as powerful and as physiological as any addiction. Codepency is emotional addiction rooted in a fear of abandonment and it’s a full body visceral response.

He did when he talked about fantasy, oxytocine and getting distracted to avoid uncomfortable emotions. English is my second language but I have not found a translation in Spanish for limerance and enmeshment...I have lost so many skills since the final shock (finding out about narcissistic mothers and scapegoats) I don't think I would ever regain my memory and cognitive skills. My mother destroyed almost everything what was good in me, except for that piece of my soul I'm hanging on.

@@Lyrielonwind Thanks for your response. I will try to find his teaching on that. I'm struggling too. What encourages me is that the brain is plastic, meaning it can be changed, healed and grow new neurons and pathways until we die even in old age. It takes hard work but if we're determined to improve our brain and soul and spirit and body, all will be better. You're not alone and you're a overcomer!

@@appleofhiseye104 Thanks for your comforting words. I have been studying for five years about psychology. First in Spanish but I find more knowledge in English. I can tell you some interesting authors: Alice Miller, Gabor Mate, Pete Walker (From surviving to thriving), Peter Levine, Bessel van der Kolk (The body keeps the score). I have been doing EMDR, mindfulness and now studying TRE (Trauma Release Exercises) and somatic theory. You might know them already but, just in case. I understand you can't change your thinking pattern and core beliefs in a few weeks but I am discouraged... this is so slow and the worst thing is I can't find healthy friendships. Anyway, I hope you are doing better than me. I wish I could have found out about my mother's narcissistic personality disorder sooner in life. I feel like I need another lifetime just to heal from this one. I like how Tim explains complex trauma in simple terms. Makes it easier to understand it. I had a psychologist who claims his methods "scientific" but he was mixing psychology with Catholic teaching when I have been spiritually abuse (meaning that religion was used as a tool to make me a slave) and that's why I appreciate he makes two parts in his teaching although I listen to the second one based on the Bible and I like he separated both things although he connects both parts and that's ok with me. He's a good, clever guy and I appreciate his experience. Victims of complex trauma feel very isolated and we are (somehow I needed too) but it's amazing the amount of people suffering of the so called generational curse. I know it's not witchcraft but it feels like being cursed. Hoping and wishing you the best in life. We all deserve having a taste of true love and freedom 💜☘️

I was fear-based taught about religion and that's why I stopped being religious until the day one priest told me that fear of God meant fear of being away from God and that made perfect sense to me. Still. I don't follow any religion but my own values that agree with the ten Commandment. I have tried to make friends with women; they all are too busy usually with family and being not awared victims of abuse but then I found all these people (from therapist to narcissists) who make fearful of being isolated because it can make you more prone to mental health problems...three years since I got rid of toxic people, my whole family included, and I have lost any hope of having any relationship at all, no matter what kind and especially a romantic relationship. I found most men of my age just want a woman to toy with. So, my temptations are short-life; I have not found a man who doesn't talk about sex or disrespect me in less than ten minutes and the women I have met are the ones who want to talk with you so they can gossip better...I don't think I'm the healthiest, I know I'm not but I don't see healthy people anywhere either 😢

I love a lot of your teachings on complex trauma and healing! It helps a lot! But I think your teachings about surrendering to God can mislead and retraumatize people who have been spiritually abused by their parent and/or church leader. And I don't understand why you are saying that addicts allowed their dark side to control them. Don't you think that they got into it because they were in flight-freeze mode, where they could not do otherwise? Were they not just seeking a substitute that could fill the void of real love?

What Tim is saying is true. The dishonest part is that modern Evangelical Christianity is appropriating all the hard work done by psychology and Neuroscience on the subject of complex trauma. Where was the church 50 years ago when I was born? Religion has absolutely no answers and it can only Stand By and then appropriate the accomplishments of other fields. Leave God out of this. Any deity that would allow a helpless defenseless child to be traumatized year after year is evil and malevolent and does not deserve any worship whatsoever.
@sarahnitins
@sarahnitins 5 лет назад
What you need to understand is that the traditional way of perceiving "God" is actually incorrect. God is not a Deity. God is the breath and spirit that enlivens all. In other words, God is that which has given everything life, and we who are living by God's breath, are gifted with the awesome gift of using this life that has been breathed into us to the best of our abilities. It is an immense responsibility. We all stumble and some of us stumble a terrible lot. Many, many then must pay the price for the errors of others. But,in the end, I believe, through the unfurling of time and life and lives not yet lived those thus harmed move to places that are better and sweeter, places that only these so very difficult routes could have taken them to. Try looking at the situation this way. I have met those who are devout Christians who do understand this. It is paradoxical, and difficult to make sense of. Perhaps we need to all remember that we are only here for a while, that this is a school, and that the lessons, however awful they may be are, in the end, simply lessons, and in good time we will move on to the next place. Perhaps that could help put everything into some kind of understandable context.

@@sarahnitins and you KNOW this how? You write as if you have some special insider knowledge on spiritual truth. Lol. The truth is you don't know any more than I do. Also if this life is a testing ground, I refuse to be a rat in "God's" laboratory. The truth is, the universe behaves exactly as it would if there was no personal deity.
@sarahnitins
@sarahnitins 5 лет назад
@@formerfundienowfree4235 exactly. If you read my comment carefully, my point is indeed, there IS no personal deity. I guess you just didn't understand what I was getting at. I must have thrown you off when I used the words "God is that which has given everything life", not a very good choice of words in this discussion really. You read that and imagined that I was referring to some God person, sitting up there in Heaven making living things... ha ha ha...! Well, I certainly wasn't. i should have used the word "consciousness". Explain consciousness,... that's a big consideration,... and then ask yourself why things are the way they are. How can there be divinity without a "personal" divinity character of sorts present? I don't know how to explain that. But, then on the other hand, I do know that the nature of reality is of infinite expanse and breadth, a few good mathematical formulas are about all you need to prove as much (if you happen to be good at that sort of stuff). We tend to be so confined by the limits of our perception, assuming therefor that that all we can see and feel is all there is. But, clearly that is not the case, there is plenty of evidence to support such an assertion. Relax. Everything is going to be ok in the end, even if it is quite horrible at present.

You are getting God and the church and religion mixed up. The visible church is not necessarily the true expression of God. So often it is just like a dysfunctional family. Where did the people come from that comprise the visible church? Complex trauma families that are looking for help just like everyone else. God had nothing to do with your trauma accept that He suffered and died so that you might be healed and forgive the people that subconsciously perpetrated the neglect and abuse. Take responsibility for your stuff and forgive the a users for their stuff and do what you need to do. Take your abusers to a meeting. They need it just as much as you do.

And that is the main rule that people around apply. I am surrounded by people who jumps from a relationship to another one and I always wander how could they possibly find so easily another human being that fits with them?! On the other hand there are me that I remained single for years in order to "don't settle for less". So maybe it is good to have life, not trying to be the best of we don't know who.
