A tribute to Jan Harmensz van Bijlert's Feast of Gods, look it up it's pretty clear if you have any intellectual honesty left. Only religious people would be so ignorant to take offense to something that doesn't concern them, it's a tribute to the greek mythology which makes a lot more sense for the Olympics than a potential attack on a particular faith.

If Thomas Jolly, artistic director of the event, really wanted to be inspired by the “Feast of the Gods” and everyone understood that it was the “Last Supper”, he failed as a communicator and artist at a party that should have been a celebration of French culture and the Olympic spirit for the whole world and not just for your circle of friends. What shocked me most about the opening ceremony was the depiction of headless women. I know that the French have a right and a reason to be proud of their revolution but decapitating people has nothing to do with Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. What is worse is that it seemed to represent their queen, Marie Antoinette. The problem with that is that we know that she was not queen of France by choice; had very little say in the creation of the problems that led to the revolution and was the victim of a sham trial. I believe that we know: 1. That the verdict and the sentence was determined by politicians before her trial. 2. That her lawyer’s reasonable request for time to prepare was rejected. 3. That her charge sheet included an outrageous trumped up charge of the sexual molestation of her son. For seemingly no other reason, but to cause her more distress. Add to that Marie Antoinette suffered deliberate cruelty before her execution and was far from the glamorous depiction in the ceremony. I just think it is sad that a country care so little for a clear, cruel injustice that they celebrate what they should be a little embarrassed about.

This is not the Last Supper, it's not a christian scene, it's a greek mythological scene, which explains the presence of Dionysus (which doen'st work in a Christian context). The singer (the blue Dionysus) explains his song as a reference to peace. How stupid... when you know that Dionysus is not only a God linked to wine, but also to a very specific type of human sacrifice called sparagmos and followed by omophagia (I let you google for it). Tolerance will better emerge if differences are not emphasized to the absolute limit. If the differences between the everyday man, woman and child and the freakier members of society are endlessly emphasized this is much more likely to result in revulsion. This is especially so when the aesthetic tends to be ugly, defiantly so, and 'in your face'. I am not a Christian, never have been, and find all religions to be no better than rather ridiculous third rate science fiction, but I see why this was so offensive to Christians. Being within a state-sanctioned belief bubble they are prone to being sensitive at the best of times when challenged... but this was a very blatant and pretty ugly way to challenge them.

I don't know if you know but the blue guy is a French singer and he is representing Dionisius in his performance not Jesus. The table there is a female DJ that supposed to be on place of Jesus and on place of the apostles there are all sort of people including some queers and transgender, it just represent inclusion and diversity. Maybe the appropriation of the Leonardo da Vinci last supper could be problematic for religious conservative people, but I don't think it was disrespectiful. The table was used as a podium for performances of singers, fashion, dancers, etc. In my opinion it was a nice concept.
