Most parents report a both/and experience of parenthood. We can love our children and feel overwhelmed. We can love watching our kids grow and feel stressed. This invites us to hold the complexity of the truth of being human.
We can develop this skill about holding contradictory things that are true at the same time. The more we hold the dichotomy, the more we can hold the both/and in life for our child. The gift of this skill is allowing people to have their own experience without trying to correct them, or making on the happy one be true, or using one to negate the other experience. When we can acknowledge the difficult parts we are more likely to have success at addressing it.
When we feel supported we can exceed even our own expectations.
