they should add a recording of the stand in the future and issue penalty if a problem does arise or else the problem will continue to happen. Delete the recording after the whole tournament if nothing occur. I don't get why a person (even if its a child) isn't escorted out after doing it more than once as if its some type of tiktok challenge =/ The ban can be enforced onto the parent too. Q did no one went to tell the parent that his/her son was using flashlight "intentionally" on the phone...??

The flashlight is on a phone, no? You can't expect security to remove ALL phones with a light. They announced, " Please, no flashlights/camera flashes." many times. It's down to the public to be more careful, I don't think the venue could have done much more. If they do it again, then tell them to leave, but I don't think this happened?

@@curnowbascombe5400 reports seem to indicate this was a repeat offender What I'm saying is it's not a photography flash. The light remained ON, indicating it's the use of the flashlight feature, not merely taking a photo with a quick flash.

@@curnowbascombe5400 o please... u dont even know we in pakistan the people are not allowed to bring their phones while watching live cricket matches. In this kind of situation, security should sumbit all phones and when one needs to make a call or receibe he must go to secueity room within the match times ans then get their phones back once the matches are over. Simple and can be managed by the venue administration😊

1) Use hawk eye to assist match Referee in this decision. 2) Players can have 1 or 2 reviews per game and Referee themselves unlimited. 2) As long as the racquet does not touch the net or crosses the net it should not be construed as an obstruction. The Referees may refer to the slow motion replays or hawk eye. 3) Any person in crowd uses flash light or other forms of nuisance to the players or the match should be evicted and the players should be allowed to replay the point (upon referee reviewing that the disturbance interfered with the player)
@Chakotay97
@Chakotay97 6 месяцев назад
1) Hawk-eyes use-fullness in this is questionable, but use of slow speed cameras at the net. 2) These could be good, but they have downsides. They would allow more time wasting as they could be used in situations that don’t really need it in order to get a break, break opponent flow etc. The BWF is working hard to speed games up and this would probably go against it. Also these are still rare and very rarely determine a match. Take into account the number of matches at the All England for example. 2) The rules could be made clearer but that doesn’t mean that umpire’s are unfair or incompetent. They have a split second to make a decision, most people couldn’t do the job. The rules allow for you to finish your swing on the other side of the court if the contact is on your own side, but obstructing this movement or making it harder is a fault. Although generally it shouldn’t be called in my opinion if the rackets don’t make contact. 3) Replaying the point isn’t always a good idea. There could be people in who are paid to disturb the match in favour of a player etc. Also evicting viewers can bring a lot of bad press on you. Should we then ban drums or shouting when smashing etc. since they could disturb some players even when used during breaks or maybe just ban viewers all together from the venue only having livestreams as an option. Having referees review events could also take significant amounts of time and isn’t in most cases realistic. Rules cannot be written too specific and will always require interpretation. Which gets more consistent over time and training which happens at all tournaments. At the beginning, during and end to some extent. The thing people really need to remember that umpires, players and the BWF all want to see the sport succeed and grow. But saying umpires should be fined or fired because they made a mistake is very harmful for the sport. Umpires are people too and make mistakes and in many cases learn from them. But in a match it isn’t possible to allow all decisions to be questioned, changed or otherwise reviewed because there needs to be some control (as unfair it sometimes seems) of the situations and there are time constraints. Matches can’t last for hours because of debate about rules, calls etc. That kind of attitude creates a versus atmosphere and makes progress or change very hard.
@imkayzie
@imkayzie 6 месяцев назад
I cannot believe you did not insert the one where Jonatan Christie returned a quick net shot (at a lower angle) from Ginting in the finals. That referee's response was "The outcome is up to me" instead of obstructing like Nishimoto. Absurd!

@@easygoing4964 I would say it depends on how huge the fine is. I mean, would anyone really be willing to pay, say 100000 pounds to have a player win 1 match that isn't a finals match? Though, if they bet on it, then I can see a reason. If the person bet like 200000 pounds on the match I can see them having reason enough to do it, but can any "normal" working person really bet that large an amount of money on a single match that isn't even a finals match? Edit: Not to say I'm against banning and escorting people out of the venue. Imo, they should be banned for a season, escorted out and fined for hurting the players and venues. Especially if people are found to use a laser pointer, as they can actually make people go blind or reduce their eyesight.

Being obstructed would cause you to lose thousands of dollars in prize money. Now how about, let's see, Basketball and Baseball games. In victors case we cannot blame umpire but rather that we need to be equipped with better technology as it is extremely difficult to catch if it was indeed a net touch. In case of flashlight there are two ways to look at it umpire should have escorted that person out because he was reportedly doing it and was not an one off exception but also at the same time player could have completed really but in this case we can't really blame Tunjung because it happened 2-3 times for her. In case of Nishomoto definitely umpire error imo. :)

Obstructing a shot or a stroke is pretty well defined and in Nishimoto's case the umpire was just bad. This wasn't at any point a "grey area". There was no obstruction of stroke possible as the players were so far apart from each other. There so many different aspects of each match that has been evaluated really well here! Thank you. Human error’s can happen but it absolutely bizzare that there is no appeal or evaluation done to rectify the issue. There have been some good suggestions in the comments but i guess the match officials/ organiser need to self evaluate that human error can happen and they can atleast listen to the appeal and have a review system in place. Sometimes, the organizers and match officals look like authoritarian rather than facilitators of a game. It so unfair to make player go out of the court with a feeling of injustice. Which leave’s a bitter feeling in everyone’s mind. We are human’s hence first need to reflect that we all can make mistakes, but we need to correct if something is not right. ❤BADMINTON.

not only these, those crowds that 'hiak', 'hiak', 'hiak' on every shots that certain players are about to hit are damn irritating as well.. they are killing an otherwise exciting game & should be escorted out too. offenders should be recorded & ban from entering such events for 2 years as each game/location is played once a year.

if it's match point all interferences should be held to the upmost digression and since he had note of a flashlight being used before the judge not heeding the complaint was absolute malarkey. For the racket touching I feel an easy solution is if you coat the net in a powder that would get onto the racket or mark the net if struck upon, easy to distinguish from a shuttlecock print too so no real loss in umpire calling.

If someone ask, how a mere smartphone flashlight Affects a player's performance? Depends on the player, it can be slight annoying or can very disturbing, All in all in general in my opinion, when you're in peak of focus and concentration, we will tend to put our eaction into every slight changes and details in high gear, when "in the zone" slight disturbance can affect the performance

Tunjung very obviously stopped playing the point, which had just begun and AY had not hit a shot that could have potentially won the point, so the umpire should have known that Tunjung had a reason to stop playing -- the fair thing to do (also very important, as opposed to just following a rule) would have been to play a let -- so in a sporting sense that decision was also clearly wrong, and the umpire should be spoken to about it
@luf4rall
@luf4rall 6 месяцев назад
Just because Tunjung stopped it doesn't mean that it should be called a let. You can't assume that the umpire will be able to catch everything in the background. Play until the shuttlecock is dead and complain to the umpire in between points if you need to.
@eah8101
@eah8101 6 месяцев назад
@@luf4rall You apparently did not understand anything I said (which is actually fairly common on the internet) -- I said 'the fair thing to do would have been to play a let' -- I'm interested in what is fair to the players, as long as it's well within the rules -- and playing a let in that situation fulfills both of those criteria -- understand now?

if the player has to touch the net to hit the bird back over, it either wasn't going to go over or it would only be fair to allow them to hit it, that or change the rules that if it falls on the net it is a point against the last person that hit it. if someone is going to use a flashlight in the audience, try your best to continue the play, make a complaint to the umpire and try to get the person removed before continuing the next round if its repetitive.

wth don't they have cameras to provide clarity on these issues? I mean in cricket you have umpires and then a camera that is used to determine disputed decisions. I'm surprised badminton hasn't caught up yet.

We have through so many years of criticism of this bad refering and judging, and to reckon, more challenge and tech to be use in the future to avoid such a mistake by the ref, we need some kind of VAR like in the football match, to give the fair amount of justice, because nowadays even if the player protested an argue to the umpire, they're most likely gonna ignore this depending on their mood their morale, idc, its a strange thing to see the sport with very fast intesity like Badminton really had so many error and unfair decision through out the years. Its just sad to see

honestly, the technology is enough to find out who is using the flash and the federation should update the rule book. As well as the umpire should review the footage to find out the truth. by not acknoledging the players, it is unfair game due to fans can sabotage the match by using flashes. the whole system needs to be fixed.

They should make a one sided glass blocking the arena :) If they are incapable of ensuring a fair match, then they should make sure the audience is incapable of obstructing the match At the cost of their enjoyment, but you are asking for it if you can't ensure fairness. (Or maybe this is on purpose so they can indirectly decide who they want to go to the next round?)

It should be neat simple where the rules & regulations by BWF works for a tournament without spectators / audience (Make-sense). Human error should be counted as well when it is applicable in certain circumstances. BWF must be concern about this, priority should be for the players at first place then goes to the spectators i guess...

What a disaster! Meanwhile in all other sports athletes are expected to deliver with thousands of spectators shouting at them.
