While I don’t necessarily agree with her point of view. I do understand where she’s coming from. Some of the things she puts out there are controversial or inflammatory, but there is a certain need for people like her. Something that I miss as an academic is being challenged by others interpretation of life. Academia was a one point a battlefield to challenge wit and ideas. Now it’s a world where you must not challenge the status quo. Life shouldn’t be easy and to engage in society we run the risk of being offended, to either challenge our beliefs so that we can change or further cement our own stance on any given topic.

The comparison between Jeremy Clarkson and Katie Hopkins are the perfect examples of what a racist is actually like. Sure Jeremy Clarkson has said some offensive jokes and plays on Stereotypes, but they are overall jokes and are purely intended to be fun and funny, whenever he is visiting other countries or talking to people of other cultures, he is overall respectful. Hopkins however is a genuine racist. She will insult minorities, classes and disabilities, and she wants them to reflect on policies. I’ve dealt with racists like Hopkins, and it is a totally different feeling. You feel that hatred in the room and conversation.
