INTPs have a set of six core values. They are individualists and self-oriented. They are innovators that like to fix and improve things. They are creative types that like to come up with new ideas. They like gaining and improving their skills and they love to reason and think logically. They are also very original and philosophically inclined types. Does this fit you? Feel free to share it with other INTPs!

I would say I'm 50/50 scientist and inventor. I am great at mechanically engineering aspects of life (just not my own). If you give me a problem - I can explode it out into it's various moving parts and can help you hone, tweak, and optimize. If you're planning an event - I can write down - in just a few minutes - everything you will need (based on the info you've given me) from extension cords to manpower to successfully execute it. It's unbelievably fun. ;)

Erik Thor whatever seems interesting. Alot of, how things are made. Without actually making it. For example bingewatching videos on cheesemaking. As a teenager i borrowed books on things i did not necessarily believe in, mostly for thought experiments i think. Like, hand reading. Reading tealeaves. Have i ever used that for anything? No. For tea, i use bags, or the leaves are all filtered before drinking it. Bingewatched occult reading services, to see their tactics when selling their private services. Vastly different approaches to pull people in. Carpentry videos. How to make and redo furniture. Alot of production processes, interesting for understanding underlying principles. Gardening of species of plants ill never own or grow. What different kinds of professions do. I have seen videos of lockpicking. For example how to break into someones travel luggage using a cola can. Metal crafting with molten metal, interesting stuff lol.

Some INTP can be quite aware of themselves but quite insecure about "ok, I know what I am, but what will people see or understand from what I'm trying to say?" That's usually the most misunderstood personality type, so we're often traumatized about living in the external world and interacting with people (or at least I am), so every couple of words in your vid I was thinking "thanks, that's so kind". Well, someone from some point in the world understand and care about INPTs, thanks and hug from Brazil. Glad to know, if one person got it, means is possible to.

who else have had a lot of experiences since childhood where we just 'know' something and turns out to be true or magically fixed machines or wiring😂😂 .. when i was a kid i always imagining inventions that only exist years and years later.. i fixed many things experimentally but it worked.. but again, people don't like that because i basically got zero knowledge,according to them at least.. i can understand things in my own way,teach me if I'm wrong not tell me off when i ask questions.. my uncle used to ask me to do it whenever he can't fix something,more like sarcasm, and i did fix the washing machine, refrigerator, computer and else 😂😂.. i grew up in a society where typically academic is everything, they care less about creativity ,imaginations stuff.. so i was always being force to become more like what they want.. study, get a well pay job, build a family.. that's just frustrating you know.. now I'm more interested in philosophies and humans

Sameeeee, I built my own computer. I grew up kind of poor so an activity I loved to do was to take something old/broken and figure out how to make it work. I bet you share a similar learning style to mine, honestly I bet most INTPs do, but look up "spatial learning". Schools prefer to teach in sequential methods and that always pissed me off. Especially in math when I could see the right way of doing something, but the math teacher always liked to show the "old way" or wrong way of doing it first. It would make me feel so incompetent like I didn't understand how everyone was replicating this method and passing quizzes, then low and behold 4 weeks later we were doing what I intuitively saw as a pattern and wanted to do from the beginning. You know that meme of a doodle person flipping his desk? Yeah, sums it up. I'm a conceptual learner, not a rote memorizer, don't force me to replicate a flawed method with a broken concept, and then grade me on it, uncool. I love Erik's video, minus the end. I disagree with subtypes. We like to know enough that we could recreate an effective society (did someone say utopia? no? yeah better safe than sorry) and implement all of the numerous projects into in order to fix the problems we notice around us. Sure, that doesn't mean we should actually do it, but it's nice to keep as a growing model to encompass all of our working knowledge into. Wait, is that what a mind castle is? I've never looked into it, but I'm thinking it reminds me of a Sherlock episode or was it, Dr. Who? But seriously we want to know how EVERYTHING connects and often we rotate from one discipline into another, because the deeper down you fall into a rabbit hole, the more various subjects start to intertwine themselves, and soon you realize "fuck, everything is related, now I've gotta learn literally everything (except the wrong way to do a math problem, don't do that)" which you know, sounds fun until you realize that you keep forgetting to feed yourself, you have to run errands, and your family is wondering if they should report a missing person yet. All good things. Curiosity and problem solving know no bounds, that's why I hated the marginalized creativity prompted in public school. Like, do you want me to come up with a way to increase world peace by using philosophy, economics, politics, history, government and a system for redefining citizenship? Or do you want a 10 slide powerpoint that doesn't deviate from the, sorely inaccurate/bias/racist/sexist textbook, but with like a clever poem or something at the end? It's so frustrating, it's hard not to become cynical. Now that I'm in college and finally less nervous about following the same educational plan as everyone else, I realized that I'm teaching myself leaps and bounds more than the school ever taught me, even though I was an A, B student in all advanced classes for all offered years. Granted, I never did the homework but I don't think it would have made a difference, given the type of learner I am. We need to see the whole abstract picture, with its flaws, so we can lead with "why" and our desire to correct the discrepancies while we recreate the system through patterns, concepts and logic, and in hopefully a better way. I just realized your comment is from a year ago, lol. I'm probably just ranting to myself.

I think many INTPs have almost an exponential potential, based off your last question. To have such a liking for a broad array of skill sets should show how innovative and logically minded many NT/NP types are. the perfect INTP would be like an Elon Musk, in a sense that they’re a physicist/scientist constantly looking for a better way, yet equally an engineer that can’t wait to stress test these ideas of reality. The major struggle comes in the overbearing scientist part where, at least for me, we will overthink if even one part of the road map seems questionable , causing us to do nothing. To have such great ideas and insights on everything yet do nothing about it is frustrating. It’s the one aspect I envy INTJs of having. Though they’re plans to get to a destination aren’t set they continue to move. The INTP will want to move but would also like to know the steps to know exactly where the misstep is. As an INTP in their early 20’s having this brain that constantly is thinking has pushed me to Meditate. I think clearing the mind at times when it’s more useful to use intuition has helped. Once you’ve developed a plan or outlook, clear your mind and allow your intuition to govern from there. The vast amount of studying coupled with logical intuition is one of the best qualities an INTP can have. You tend to think less and become more natural allowing you to do more. Idk why but intuition is becoming vitally important as I figure this out.(I’m 21) ..side note: try to stay off the weed until work is done, make concise plans for the day and workout.

MGM haha I love that you mentioned staying off weed until after the work is done. I'm an INTP too and found weed will always be my vice. I found a good way to deal with decisions based mostly on my own/other people's emotions - simply consider emotions as facts. Because they are those in the end. They're just as much fact as our need to eat to survive. So when I have to make such a decision, I try to calculate what will generate the least net emotional loss for everyone, of course applying certain priority filters because it's also fact you don't care about everyone equally, and to always remember to place your wellbeing quite high, but not to the point of being egoistic. So really, if we stop agonizing about how illogical emotions are (and they really aren't, each of those has a reason, it's just really complex sometimes and hard to grasp - but I personally find it super fascinating!) and just treat it as any other fact, any other rule, suddenly nothing is all that confusing :).
@calliethomas2702
@calliethomas2702 4 года назад
Emotions are important, but be careful with taking facial expressions as "fact". It's entirely too easy to get manipulated by others, especially if they have narcissistic tendencies or other toxic behaviors, that may make them oscar worthy performers, but I know from personal experience, going through an experience where a person "gaslights" you, is a ruthless thing to have to endure. It's my theory that INTPs are especially vulnerable and that it really messes with our ability to pattern predict and see the collective picture. I think everything else you said is correct, and we should take into account emotions, when not to do so would truly hurt those involved.

I feel so exposed by this video. My skill sets are so varied that it freaks people out how I tend to know about almost any subject. I’ve had people challenge me by just bringing up any random topic and asking me to explain it. I’ve been the jack of all trades at my jobs since I started working, and some of my expertise in my current job (datacenter engineering) is to setup ways my team can access their tools as fast and easily as possible - building servers that bypass firewalls or other virtual blocks just so you don’t have to take three steps when there’s only need to do one. My boss has learned to work with me in this way and feeds me projects that I can just deep dive into and then explain to my coworkers how something works and what the best way to implement it is.

I found learning new instruments easy since I view all instruments as requiring the same skills, but only need to learn the slight differences in each one. This is different from other instrumentalists I know that seem to treat each instrument like they are learning to play from scratch. They don't see the connections between them. As usual, very perceptive and interesting. I'm definitely, at this point in my long life, very much looking at the biggest pictures - philosophy and of people (Jung, etc.) I have spent a lot of time mastering things just because it is somehow meaningful, but not particularly useful in a more pragmatic sense. E.g., spending literally years developing a method for solving the Rubik's Cube without having to learn a long sequence of algorithms - that is, intuitively with every solve following a different path. I never get tired doing it unlike the boring repetition of the same collection of recipes for solves. There are many examples like this of my personality in action. Another example is learning to play 12 bar blues on the guitar, and changing chords every beat (n=48.) It even sounds good:-) Not very practical, since there is virtually no demand for blues players who can do this. In fact, I never met any other guitarist who does this. But I played variations of this in every key for years and, like the cube, it never failed to energize me. I could go on, but I've written enough. Anyway, thanks for this video which triggered my comment. This aspect of my personality is not something I think about much - these kinds of pursuits are just "fun" to do.

I hate to seem like I’m coming across arrogant or unaware of myself, but to answer your question on the end of the video I would have to say there isn’t any one that I identify with more. I feel as though my thoughts and interests are so varied that it touches pretty equally on all of those subtypes. Absolutely I’m always analytical and always innovative, but I feel as though I’m always empowering others and in that pursuit I am also utilizing my philosophical tendencies alongside my analytical and innovative ones. I would probably say the best way to encompass my functions as a whole would be to say they are quite similar to that of the village Shaman. And the Shaman’s responsibilities and community obligations and even more so moral obligations as they pertain to those around me or the community I feel responsible for.

@@ErikThor I appreciate your reply. Often, INTPs seem to have a disdain for religion. I get it, faith-based premises can be difficult for rationals to accept. My religious affiliation and expression is indeed logical (in its self-contained way), and I view existential religion (ecstatic or irrational experiences, etc) with suspicion. I would probably say that my ongoing personal "project" is to improve theology (or my understanding of it) by identifying doctrines and beliefs that are inconsistent with the underlying rules of the system, and modifying them to be consistent. This is what I gain the most satisfaction from.

Great video. I am just beginning to really come to grips with the fact that I am more of an INTP. I tend to feel really energized, and think it’s the best thing in the world when I hear a new pop song I like or new gadget. I also tend to think I can sense what others may feel or look at a situation from an objective perspective. So for a while I thought that I was more of an INFP.. But I have this constant desire to improve things and approach all suggestions almost from a confrontational perspective - to battle my opinion against another’s almost when it comes to choosing the best option. So I think I am more of an INTP actually. I have so many ideas and being married to an ISTJ keeps me grounded but at the same time I struggle with freedom in a way. The ability to do something new. A few years ago i was in a fashion business where everyone did what was already familiar to them. I had my own way of doing the business. I worked with a friend, in which she's the executor of all my strategies. I was the one who renovated the system of the business. But it was a mistake, it was easily read by competitors, and everyone else began to do what we were doing because it brought them a lot of income instantly. I am the kind of a person that believes in efficiency, and satisfying results. If you're going to do something, be efficient, and effective at the same time. In my experience, I learn new skills that I think are most important to me and to problem solving. I was the girl who carried a bunch of random things because they all applied to skills I'd learned (seemingly at random since I continued to improve and adjust the skills and knowledge based on new skills and knowledge) I get compared to people like Doctor Who and Doctor Strange and Constantine, etc. just because I can see puzzle solutions a little faster than others. It drives my partners insane when I can call out who the killer is in a murder mystery but I've seen and read so many that it's almost intuitive to find solutions to things like this. I'm definitely more comfortable with hands-on training with repetition as the reinforcement. I'm often trying to invent or observation of a situation where I can get intuition to often as you say to solve a problem that nobody saw a need for. Oddly as a preteen my Father who was studying for his Master's degree in Education in Baltimore City Public School System at his Union's headquarters was right across the street from the main branch of the Enoch Pratt Library where I was all day Saturday morning until about closing. I was a vociferous reader especially of periodicals. I'm wide ranging in my interests possibly from reading a host of trade journals from Waste to Agriculture, Construction, Electronics, Aviation, Industry, Sociology, Psychology & Faith. I was beginning the path of the Renaissance of "Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants!" I've done many wide ranging occupations. When felled from injury I go on an inner tangent of craft, skills in an ever expansion of the possible. Someone said, "Get In, Where You Fit In!" I've been buffeted by my introvertion to create a persona of an extrovert to move in areas that shy and quiet people don't find many footholds. I've often had to suppress the desire for perfection to the widest acceptable level of detail without falling into a HOLE Trough The Looking Glass! I'm often pilloried for using the not so common venacular, so I have developed the ability to slip into a character from what I understand & know distilled to the parlance of the common man. I'm nutured in the concept and construct that otherwise unless an apprentice in a trade to discover every field has terminology derived from the age of guild's where knowledge was power and you didn't want anyone to cut in on your action, unless they too put in the time to learn the trade! Like Dr. Who & MANY others that ability to discover the inner workings of The Matrix gives you opportunity that others didn't see. There's a woman who has a particular insight into Autism, her observation of cattle handling systems lead to less anxious creatures when minor changes to the environment that they had to navigate were eased and she speaks on common sense ideas for how to do LIFE if you are a bit different than most. An author and auto mechanic has provided high quality care for customers of a part of New England basically tapping the skills of a group of people who are mentored by hands-on training with repetition as a basis for competent care of specialized vehicles that allow the technicians to have a much better quality of life. Sometimes the better way is waiting in the wings!

Knowing now that I'm an INTP has made my focus so much more clear. I'm a successful company director and founder and chairman of a humanitarian organization. I've graduated with multiple university degrees in Australia 🇦🇺 and majored in Philosophy, Marketing, and International Relations. I also advise governments and banks on strategic planning matters. I only recently found out that I'm an INTP, and it finally all makes perfect sense. I somehow rehabilitated that infamous INTP mentality of never getting things done with always seeing my ultimate goal. It's not an easy goal to achieve, but I'll get it done quickly and move on to the next project. Powered by INTP

About your question at the end of video, I use to be the first type who wanted to just know the rationale of everything and at the time I was studying Sciences, later at the age of 24, I also started to really want to know the good and bad, why the good is good and why bad is bad. And I also started really badly want to know the philosophy behind everything, what is knowledge, what is language and words and meaning, what is consciousness, what is existence and life. So I started taking philosophy courses and then I got really interested in being very good at being able to express my thoughts through writing and being able to come up with a brand new way of education system cause I came to the conclusion that I can create the biggest change in the system of society best through education. Now I am trying to really gain skills in writing and learning about education, and human learning and mind as much as possible. So long story short I want pretty much all the things that you mentioned at the end. Is that bad?

Excellent video m8. One of the best I've seen on RU-vid pertaining to the INTP personality. I'm an INTP-A, and definitely relate to the actor, director, and writer subvariants you mentioned Some unique things & quirks that I attribute to my personality include.... 1. I play 15 musical instruments (pro at piano, drums, guitar, bass, vocals) 2. I can do hundreds of impressions, and like a good amount of INTP's, I can impersonate every myers-briggs personality type and have done so for job interviews & the like with great success. 3. Most of my friends say I have an infinite amount of knowledge on subject matters that interest me, and I have made a lot of my university professors feel insecure, not on purpose. 4. 95% of the time I find socializing to be a GIANT waste of time 5. As a kid I categorized people's personalities to names I found humorously fitting. 6. I find lots of people I interact with to be very unintelligent and very predictable. 7. My humor is very surreal, honest and intense, LOTS of satire, and sometimes morbid. 8. I'm getting my PhD within the next 3.5 years in psych, and am already working on a few patents. I'm also working on expanding and fusing multiple theories into a brand new school of thought in psychology. 9. Depending on where I'm at, I'll say or do something just to see if others reactions will be what I think they are. 10. I am an existentialist (Kierkegaard), and am rather eccentric and hate limitations/constraints, my personality has been said to be a mix of Bill Hicks, Frank Zappa, and the character Beetlejuice.

I love inspiring people and making cool things. Although I do acquire skills and abilities like lock picking or repairing things like cell phones. I would say I have been practicing rapid prototyping and R&D just to make concepts of things. I will say things like art is weird because you take useful good objects and sacrifice them to make a concept or idea. I feel like an enfp campaigner might make a good assistant. If INTP's ran the world we would have flying cars by now.

I feel more like a catalyst - understanding all aspects and go from there - no real emotional aspect unless I chose so myself based on logic on what I think the person already will probably do them self - I feel like more of a hub of information directing people - sadly it affects my life on a personal level because I don't know how to dynamically make it work. Its a paradox for me really - When your loved one asks you if you need help is really an error message in my head along with anything they say as it results in unforeseen predictions versus work

Ti is more about improving the individual details of a particular thing... creating or finding something to fix the job, do process better etc... While Te's more about how everything all fits together super efficiently, no single focus... Te loves the production line/the system process as a whole.... Ti loves creating the cogs in the system/building the system from scratch... Ti doms tend to love my Te, coz I connected all the dots for them and direct where they should focus building/creating (saving them testing time). While Te loves to listen for ideas from Ti based on their brood scope on an individual area.. (saving them researching time) Both types love to break things to see if they really work LOL Ti will dismantle something just to understand it, learning faults in the design in the process... while Te will test the item/system based on what it says it can do, looking for the physical evidence (fact checker) coz we dont believe it till we see it... And when it dont work.. they will both list all the ways it could have been created better... and start brain storming a better design.... as a past time... we love building/improving stuff together! Ti & Te doms are great in relationships & in the work place.. they complement each other super well.

hmm..i'd probably say dreamer, inventor and scientist. My mind goes on an endless journey of continual detour from the idea or thought i just had, ideas and questions just branch and shoot off like a rocket into the infinite galaxy of possibilities i can't even stop until someone from this world yells out my name or taps me on the shoulder to remind me they are still here and we were in the middle of a conversation..on let's say which supermarket has the best specials on at the moment...before i was triggered by the coffee cup they were using and i started questioning in my head why are those cups made of this certain material? maybe i need a degree in material engineering so i can grasp an understanding in depth behind the use of different materials and their structures. why are cup handles fixed to a certain position and normally upright? what if the handle is linked to the cup with some gears? and then i hop onto that spaceship which takes me to the outer space where all my ideas and images are floating around: what about cups with handles like those stands with arms you see in the lab that holds the beakers? what about having mechanical robot cups where you can adjust the height and how far out it can stretch out from the centre point you want the cup to be located in the air because the handles are made of mechanical gears and it resemble the shape of a robot? How cool would it be to order a coffee and being able to chose what robot you want it to be served with hahah! wait, maybe joints that are similar to a Rubik's cube? hmm but that would bring a few limitations to the space you have left of the table because we got to make sure it is secure, can't compromise on that for more space if you were to use a robot. or a spider robot? no, spiders are ugly but we could understand the use of their legs and imply that into the invention. what about having the cups hanging down from the roof?! you can 'roll' it up or down like a curtain! and you can have some clear cups too! but no..it's too time consuming and people forget how much they have left in their cups. maybe eye levels. but what if.....? Or maybe, we could invent something where you can just suspend your cup in mid air! like how would that work? like those in outer space with no gravity? will the drink itself lose gravity and start floating within that space too? if it was a badly made coffee you might see the residues floating as well?! would love to see that!!...... and so the brain just goes on and on and on and forgetting what my initial idea was and what was i wanting to make better of for the world..oops! sorry for the lengthy comment, i thought i'd just share with you all a bit of what goes on in this fellow INTP's brain...i wish there is a company with experts from different fields that just hires all the inventive people and fund them to put their ideas of inventions into actions with the support of experts-i.e. knowledge in material engineering hahaha. we don't have to get paid well, just enough to keep up alive, it's more about working on the ideas and processes and achievements that bring us joy and satisfaction..so that our ideas are not wasted and forever sealed in a grain of sand you don't know if gets washed onto a beach and some kid takes it home in a jar or it falls to the deepest part of the ocean floor where there's no sunlight and might be accidentally inhaled into the stomach of a still-yet-to-be-discovered mysterious, eyeless, finless, boneless...creature the dwells on the seabed with hundreds and thousands of its kind, waiting, for the next victim..could it be you? or your next idea..BRAHaHAHAhA!!!...at least for me it is.

Originality is key to me as an INTP. First I must ingest subject matter to understand the basic principles it's based on, then it's likely I'll come up with a better solution usually "out of left field". What do I fear, you ask? Failure...and yet I know that every failure is an opportunity to learn as Edison did with the filament of what became the incandescent light globe - about 1000 failures until success - tungsten, in a vacuum. Sometimes I fear mediocrity - that my best won't be good enough - but it usually is, because I know my limitations while constantly pushing the boundaries of them into unknown territory, hence growth. I like being me.

Could someone explain level four for me? How does Myers Briggs define the terms: Judging, Perceiving For the first three levels in Myers Briggs, E or I, N or S, and F or T, I understand what each means in context. In contrast, I'm not sure precisely what Perceiving and Judging mean in cotext. You must be aware of a thing (aka PERCEIVE it) in order to make a JUDGEMENT about it. Our JUDGEMENT of a thing is based on how we PERCEIVE it and what we PERCEIVE it to be. Both JUDHING & PERCEIVING seems intermixed Also, judging vs. perceiving was the only classification that was not extremely skewed. INT are greatly skewed. For example: Feeling 2%,Thinking 98% Am I having a hard time dufferentiating between J and P because I have balance in these two or hice versa?
@TNord.
@TNord. 2 года назад
I think J types make decisions based on “what should I do” in context of norms. P types throw away norms and just look at possibilities to solve a problem. Also when plans go wrong, the J type usually is annoyed. The P type rolls with uncertainty much better. I think J is lazy thinking, almost low IQ. P thinking just considers more angles to a situation. Of course J types stick to plans better.
