Thanks Grant! I just found your channel. In 23 I'll be transitioning to semi-retirement and buying a new Tundra that will immediately be modified to take me back country across N.America with my mountain bikes living off grid. Still deciding about what type of camper and how much I will lift and tire size it. My friend is building a Sur Ron with all the new Fox shox and other mods. Perfect to bring exploration adventures to scout out some nice spots to camp.

Trailers and slide in campers are trendy cause people want more lux and comfort. Comes with a big price tag. Ill stick with my ground tent.

Agree. If I want to comfort camp, I take the 30ft travel trailer that has a kitchen, shower, ac/heat, TV, and costs less than those bolt on bed campers. If I want to overland, I take the Disco 2 and sleep in an $80 tent. I imagine everything gets completely tossed inside of those truck bed campers too. It’s bad enough with on road campers.

Definitely appreciate your viewpoint here. Thanks for showing of some retro builds too. I have a shirt, "old guys rule." That should go for old trucks, too 😎 I'm sticking to a rtt and bed rack tho. I got into Tacomas years ago because of the size. Smaller is better.

I appreciate your videos Grant! I mainly love your enthusism for this space that I have grown to aquire myself. I have taken a ton of inspiration from you and your old TJ build since I ride in a 01 TJ. Keep up the videos! I plan to start my own channel soon and I hope our paths cross sometime in the future for an overland trail ride! Thanks again for your vids.

I'm not a fan of EV "overland" vehicles either.. I prefer long range fuel tanks, and carrying the extra fuel I need, in case of emergency, or herlping others!...... That Skinny Guy set up is by far my favorite new thing I seen, this year!... I just bought my first pickup truck, and am excited to start modding it for overlanding!.. This looks nearly perfect... I am going to look them up! Yes 4WD 24/7 is the best! Lol.. Shauno and Graham are legends! Great video, thanks!!

Sorry about your trip being cut short… I saw you also have an S Pod… I was curious if you often have to unplug it and reset it… I often get a white screen or a black screen.. then unplug the back to reset… I have 2 screens and both need this done kind of often… and the Bluetooth range.. does that also work well for you? Thanks..

i have to stop at 9.25, because the K5 ruined all the rest for me. Hands down, thats the best set up to me, simple, tailgate living, love it. I do the same with my 03 6.0l bullet proofed F250. Shade cover off the side, tent cot, tail gate kitchen. Cheap living, if i needed more than a tent cot, i should stay home. But that's me. I done all the camper stuff and its just a pain in the ass, they are expensive, cost money to maintain, no more, i just jump in my rig and go.

Hey man. Love your videos! Thank you very much. I have a question regarding your rig. Would you go with 5.29s or stick with 4.88s next time? Currently I’m leaning towards 4.88 but what are your thoughts with your exact setup? Will 4.88 be the best for off-road but yet also hwy MPG?

Great question, and hard to say. For my exact setup with everything I have, I feel like I would have liked to do 5.29's, but then again, I haven't driven a truck with those gears. I'm content with my 4.88s. In 6th gear, I stay at around 2100-2200 RMP at 70mph (actual speed, not speedo). I have the OTT tune which helps a lot, but 5th and 6th gear are really annoying. The tune helped them hunt less, but to be in 6th gear you have to be going on a dead flat road. I wonder if the 5.29's would help nudge 6th gear to hold more. But I'm not sure. 4.88s will generally keep you lower rmp on the highway, therefore better MPG theoretically.

@@ArkansasOffroad APPRECIATE your input on this topic. It’s real tricky since 6th gear with 5.29s although may hold 6th at 70mph actual at a lower RPM, doesn’t mean better fuel economy. So many variables!! Smh. At 2100-2200 RPM in 6th at 70 actual, what’s the reading on your MPG economy meter thing hovering at on flat ground?
