Fresh(ish) from my boat trip up from Zante, I share my first impressions of Corfu town with you. Plus I struggle to find a bus South to Agios Georgios.
Well done Antonio what you see is a reality of the new town which has been built and still being built by the modern “missionary Greeks “ It looks like a third world town like most towns in Greece. The old town which has been built up by different People looks more like a European town than Greek but also there are areas of abandoned buildings , ruined castles , parched grass , no parking space, no public toilets Despite the fact that money comes from the tourist industry the last 50 years. From a born and bred Corfiot.
Thanks Konstantinos. I only aim to show the world as it really is through my videos. It's a real shame that so many places in a country I love so much end up in poor state. Take care mate
I found no problems with any that you mentioned, toilets, parking, warm and welcoming people that spoke English, public transportation... furthermore International airport, tons of European history, incredible mansions and palaces of the aristocracy, Hiking trails, bike rentals and trails and I can go on and on, sailing, bathing views that take your breath away so take it from a New Yorker do your home work spend a little money since you're on holiday and experience the magic where ever you go in Greece and other European destinations.
Yep. There are plenty of videos out there on RU-vid showing amazing places. I often like to look at places from alternative angles. Cheers for watching
@@helloantoniotraveladventures Yes but this is a street in Corfu city from the port to the bus terminal. Not the whole of the city is like this. It's a route you follow outside from the historical center.
Way to negative and missing many of the great things my friend , Corfu is a big island with all that exists in a large ancient location and without knowledge you will not experience the many Fantastic positive aspects that bring people back year after year. You can find all that you need and yet find that Greek Island get away feel.
I was living in corfu for many years until recently and yes the island has its issues especially with water and electricity, bare in mind its a island of less than 80 thousand people , literally only us there between nov and April with no direct flights .. Greeks are the best people you will ever know in your life and if you can't appreciate that then I. Sorry for you. If you would like some tips on where to go in and out of season im happy to help .
You were actually walking through the old town. In corfu there is an old town and a new town. Such a pity you didn't show the new town as it is so wonderful and so beautiful.x
Great work on the video! Me and my girlfriend just arrived to Corfu town after having an amazing time in Palaiokastritsa and have to say there is a serious lack of videos like yours here. I wish we stumbled upon something like this sooner as it would prepare us for the hurdles allowing us to adjust our expectations and planning our trip. I am a bit saddened to see how hard it is for people to handle "negative" information as it is often that what is most useful. I also appreciate your response to the comments of people not able to handle it and putting the blame on you. The blame assigning is beside the point and closes down a potentially constructive conversation. I am subscribing right now please keep doing what you are doing!!! Don't mind the haters, you are bound to collect them doing videos like this ;)
Watched your Brussel International airport to city centre video. You recommend to use the local flanders De Lijn bus service. Can you buy a ticket at the airport or from bus driver without using app? I will be travelling to Brussels this Monday, never been to Belgium before.
il y a comme partout des endroits en ruines ou en chantier; mais il y a aussi tellement de beaux sites et les gens sont si gentils et accueillants que les endroits que vous montrez sont secondaires. J'y vais aussi souvent que possible tellement je m y sent bien.
I know exactly when you walked through. It’s obvious you are a great journalist just like the rest of them. Have a great time in your miserable trip you obviously were miserable before that Corfu happens to be a fantastic place maybe you should open up your eyes you missed plenty! Have a great trip back home!
Sadly a lot of Corfu town looks like this although some parts are stunning. The good thing is you will not be mugged day or night like lots of other European tourist destinations! Also, dudes obviously coming down from a few heavy nights on the Charlie. Look at the bags under his eyes!
0:56 "This is what happens when you're like me and instead of joining some... organized tour you just walk off the ferry" dude you're just walking the hazy streets of Corfu. Nothing radical. To be so full of yourself when you're practically cosplaying Benjamin from Bald and Bankrupt isn't the most flattering look. Did you practice in front of the mirror to get his body language and gimmicks down to a tee before you set off on your riveting mission?
I'm sorry for you. But if I traveled like you, I would be frustrated too. You are right about the pictures, but unfortunately there are all over the world, come to my home country Germany and you can show more of these pictures. Relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape and nice people.
don't complain in your holiday. the greek people don't stress themselves with their property. they do one by one by the time. and the busses ... top system and always on time.
Next time buy a guide map of the city that you visit so that you do not get lost and you will be able to easily reach and admire the best of its location. The Old Town of Corfu is the only such large area in Greece to have retained almost intact its historical urban network, with buildings dating from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. This housing stock brings to the surface the unique historical conjuncture that formed its architectural and cultural character. The Old Town and its two forts are nowadays listed among UNESCO’s World Heritage Monuments. Do a research on google and you will be impressed!
@@helloantoniotraveladventures Once you disembarked at the exit of the port you would have to turn left and continue walking on the sidewalk adjacent to the sea which would have brought you to the old town of Corfu. Keep in mind that the main city of the whole island of Corfu is also called Corfu (town). I'm not Greek but I live in Corfu (town). It is a pity to show only the less beautiful things because, after all, bad things are also in all countries. People here are very friendly. Maybe you traveled during the full pandemic and so they kept their distance. You can also find city maps online. They are essential not to get lost! atcorfu.com/corfu-town-map/
@@helloantoniotraveladventures you're entitled to your opinion but what you have shown grossly misrepresents the town and it's beauty. You could find spots in any town that look crappy but that does not give a realistic view of the whole town. We are an island that depends on tourism and somebody casually viewing this would not get a fair impression. Anyway, hope you enjoy your next destination better.
This is how I saw Corfu Town on that particular day, and I am not going to sugar-coat how I experienced it. I didn't go looking for places that looked crappy, this is just what I found whilst walking to the bus station and then in the couple of hours whilst waiting for the bus. I did also mention that there were some nice parts I saw. I would love to come back to see the town and the beauty I missed. Maybe you could show me around and we could do a video explaining why Corfu Town isn't overrated. Cheers
England has the same. Good and bad areas. It looks like you where just looking for some bad areas. Like most countries economic depression is all over. So yes buildings shops supermarkets will be closed. I been going to Corfu for years and it’s always been such a nice place. You not stop myself from coming to Corfu .
where are the babouskas .......you wanne bee troll heheh corfu is nice every town has lesser areas thats cald real life this video is not what i think of corfu ......
Your wish is my command, Sally! Have a look at my other videos in Greece, you'll see that I really love this country. My best friend is Greek. Have a great weekend
That's the thing , I live in scotland and if he walked through my town he would say" oh, there are a few junkies taking heroine, scotland is absolutely trash"
I mean it was quite unfortunate bcz you saw some parts that are abandoned. Kids and teens go there and paint them. But from the vlog you missed some amazing places. I don't if you went to other places as well off camera
@@helloantoniotraveladventures I would have had the same first impressions you had if I went where you did. That part of Corfu town is run down and shoddy. The old town near the fort is very nice and Agios Georgios south just used to be a beach with a single house on it, then a while back they decided to build a big resort, loads of unfinished buildings ect. It was where they filmed this chase scene from the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y2CVF8c784M.html Paleokastritsa is the place to go on Corfu. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lbQU_0aA-78.html Mind blowing...
So the point of this video is to showcase British tourists places they should avoid when visiting Corfu town. Is this correct? Like every urban area there are crappy districts and better districts. It's like going to NYC and showing parts of East New York or Bedford-Stuyvesant just to claim NYC is a dump. You seem to be the type of bloke who complains there are too many Indians in Bombay, too many Chinese in Hong Kong, too many Arabs in Cairo and too many Blacks in Nairobi. Just stay home with your misery.
That supermarket is not abandoned, its fully operational...also you are visiting a country crippled by economic depression, what did you expect? Skyscrapers and casual ferarri drivers?
Well the supermarket looked abandoned 😂 certainly wasn't expecting skyscrapers and Ferraris. Have a look at my other videos, you'll get a better idea about who I am and how I travel.
@@LukeSkywalker-uu2us Portugal looked lke a poor Latin American country tacked onto Europe when I was there last...so much graffiti in Lisbon as well, but I understand they were crippled by the Eurocrisis.
The Corfu they don’t want you to see….which is fine because I don’t want to see it either. That’s not why I would go. Kind of like going to New York City and only visiting the popular and safe spots.
God loves you so much that He sent His Holy Son Jesus from heaven to earth, to be born of a virgin, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins, and to be put into a tomb 3 days and rise from the dead the third day, and He (Jesus) went back up to heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, and unbelieving, & abominable, and murderers, and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent.
It takes special talent to find the shity areas in one of the most beautiful islands ,show us the true face of your city, then will gonna really laugh.Probably if you going to Parthenon, you ll say it’s dusty and abandoned..please do us a favor go somewhere else next time ,nothing wrong with it ,but you want paradise with 10 euros ,apparently you never visit the north part of the island, but it’s probably not for your budget ..again nothing against ,but as we say in my country ..you can’t paint eggs with farts!
it's funny how many people in comments doesn't wanna get their head out of their ass lol..))) Great Video, Bangladesh as it's best, hope more people will see this video and get ashamed.
Hm.. you've seem to be loaded with negative energy. You would have more fun if you wouldn't travel alone. Or go to stunning roller coaster parks. What was even your plan there?
So what is the reason you are showing this part of Corfu? Come to NYC and see what you will find in here..👎👎👎👎👎..(I am not of greek origin by the way) !!!
@@helloantoniotraveladventures after watching this video I no longer have the casual sexist idea that only women whinge and complain like this. You have enlightened me and it’s much appreciated.
Oh Susan, have a look at my other videos and you'll see I'm great to travel with, I was just having an off day. Let me know if you're up for it, I'll even treat you! 😂
Seriously? I'd love that. Lol. Have you tried Lesbos? My favourite Greek island. It's MUCH quieter and less built up than Corfu. No Brit element either. Lol. I wouldn't dare drive in Corfu but I'd drive anywhere on Lesbos apart from the Capital.
@@helloantoniotraveladventures i very much doubt it my friend Why go if ur reflecting on whats going on in ur country , then i would advise stay home and feel so good u live in a fantastic country no need for a holiday then to the greek islands , maybe try stone hedge instead , leave the sun and beaches its awful
As an English guy who has enjoyed Corfu many times, I have to say you came across as a bit of a prat. You walk around looking down your nose at the place mocking the people for economic hardship and when a local guy is friendly to you, you immediately change - then behind his back accuse him of wanting to be on camera. Your attitude did improve - but you need to work on it.
When did I mock anybody? Not sure I was doing any accusing either! Have a look at my other videos from Greece. You'll realise that I really love this country.
@@helloantoniotraveladventures I didn't say you were mocking any individual, but a visitor from a more wealthy country deriding empty buildings and shops is not a good look.
@@helloantoniotraveladventures No, but there's more to explore about reality. One of the most interesting places I have seen in Corfu Town is an empty building. Also there are fascinating empty buildings to visit on Rhodes and other Greek islands. These places are full of beauty and have historical interest if you choose to see that reality instead. There are run down areas in London too - even poverty has charm and dignity in the way people make the most of their lot in life. I'm not having a go - I'm trying to be constructive - you would have made a much better video without the condescension.
To be fair, it was a spontaneous first impressions vlog on my walk from the ferry terminal to the bus station. Cheers for watching and thanks for the advice
People don’t realise the majority of Greece is third world, it’s sad as well because Greece makes enough income that it could be prospering but they don’t put any of it into improving that majority of Greece, still a beautiful country though with so much character and culture and that’s undeniable it just depends on what type of experience you want from your travels, maybe being a little less rude about a country where the people are lovely and welcoming and try their best when overcome with poverty and earthquakes destroying everything whilst rich foreigners prance around with their expensive cameras judging everything that isn’t naturally picture perfect would be nice :)
