Fun Fact: In the very beginning, when Victor is sketching a butterfly, this scene is supposed to foreshadow what's going to happen to Emilie in the end. Just like the butterfly is trapped under the glass dome in the beginning, Emilie is also trapped, but in "wedding limbo". And just like Victor sets the butterfly free from its prison in the beginning, he will also set Emilie free from her vows with Lord Barkis in the end. Which is why she turns into butterflies specifically, so it'll show the parallels between the beginning and ending.
Fun fact: the stop motion animation in this film is so good, some people were convinced it was actually CGI. And Tim Burton was ridiculously offended by this, because he's proud of the art of stop motion animation, and all the effort that goes into it. So much so, that when he made Frankenweenie, he actually held back on making it look good ON PURPOSE so people could still tell that it was stop motion animation.
Emily was so selfless, she gave up her "happy ending" so Victoria could live on the rest of her life with someone she loved. I'm convinced Emily realized that Victor was keen on marrying her only because he thought he had lost Victoria- I definitely think Emily was the best choice though- so kind-hearted and funny, she deserved better!
It wouldn’t really be a “happy ending” as Victor was only forced to marry her (Victoria to marry a different man + his pity for Emily). We didn’t get to see the real chemistry between Victor and Victoria since he literally spent more time with Emily due to being dragged underground but it’s obvious that he very much liked Victoria and was very willing to marry her. Emily did not love Victor. Like what the other comment said, she was stuck on marriage limbo. But what’s important is she did find someone to love her and that is herself ❤️ In the end, she finally received the happy ending she deserved (considering her situation) and that is freedom.
I honestly think that Victor was willing to marry her so she could be happy and I hope she finds a new person to love in heaven because she’s so kind and just amazing and I love her💙💙💙💙🩵🩵🩵🩵🤍🤍🤍
@Mk-et6ps and she might have been stabbed too considering there was already a hole in the dress when she was unintentionally stabbed by barkis after the fight so not only was Emily buried alive but the poor girl was probably slowly bleeding out as she desperately tried to dig her way out of the grave
Another Tim Burton Masterpiece. The stop motion is so good and clean, it's not hard to see why people thought it was cgi. It's also a very unique film as it shows the complications of marriage and has one of the greatest quotes: "Can a heart still break once it's stopped beating?" A rumor to which can NEVER be answered.
I heard that some hated Victoria after watching this movie and I’m like why? Because they wanted Victor with Emily? She didn’t do anything wrong and is a really sweet person who genuinely loved Victor, even though they just met. The fact that the first move she did after seeing Victor taken away by Emily was to try to help him, certified her as the one I want Victor to end up with and my favourite character from the film. (Which is funny to me since when I first watched the film, I thought I would like Emily more. Still like her though)
Definitely in my top 5 "kids" horror films!! I was a corpse bride for Halloween in 2007 for 7th grade!! Love you guys keep up the good work!! Also love your shirt girl!! ❤
Glad to see a reaction to this movie. I myself only saw it a couple years ago and I very much enjoyed it as well. I very much enjoy the vibe a lot of the Tim Burton movies have. While it is a bit of an obvious comparison to Nightmare Before Christmas and Frankenweenie, there is actually a fan theory saying that the 3 of them are actually connected, I don't recall the exact details and whatever but I know it's basically that they theorize that the kid and dog from Frankenweenie become Victor and Scrap who become Jack and Zero. As far as other Tim Burton movies to watch, Sweeney Todd is really good and has a lot of recognizable faces in it. Disney's live-action remake of Alice in Wonderland is made by Tim Burton as well, not sure if either of you have seen it though. I would also recommend Tara watch James and the Giant Peach as well since she said she hasn't seen it.
I saw a video that the Victor in Frankenweenie is the same character as in Corpse bride grown up and then became Jack in Nightmare Before Christmas. They all have the same dog. It's a theory but it is plausible.
Fun fact this and Charlie and the chocolate factory where filmed at the same time they would go from live acting during the day to voice acting at night
The animation for Corpse Bride was done so buttery smooth and perfect, people kept thinking Burton made it using CG and not stop motion! He did not like this, as he's pretty proud of his stop motion style, so when Frankenweenie was made, he cut back just a bit on the smoothness of his animation to show it really was stop-motion.
Corpse bride is a very unique film as it shows the complications of marriage and has one of the greatest quotes: "Can a heart still break once it's stopped beating?" A rumor to which can NEVER be answered.
This movie was perfection. The bittersweet ending shows the movie was Emily's story all along. She never got to find true love or get married with a partner, and not everyone does. She learns to love herself and accept that her life was unfairly cut short.

I had a girlfriend named emily that passed away a little over a year ago, to say this movie has a special place in my heart is a understatement. I cry like a absolute baby at this movie every single time..
I freaking love this movie, I’m also a huge fan of nightmare before Christmas !!! I love that the living are miserable and gloomy, and the dead are colourful and lively. That twist was so good. Great reaction Tara and Andrew ❤
I loved this movie. I’ve only seen this recently and ever since i watch it anytime i can. Fun facts: •The puppets were 25 to 28 centimeters (9.8 to 11 inches) tall, and some of the stages were so large that animators could actually fit through the set doors with minimal crouching. Multiple identical puppets had to be created, so that more scenes could be accomplished in a shorter period of time. In all, fourteen puppets of the Bride and Victor were created, and thirteen were created of Victoria. • The movie had a 55-week shoot and included 109,440 individually animated frames set up and filmed. • Victor is reunited with his deceased (and now skeletal) dog, Scraps. A picture of a younger Victor with a living Scraps is visible at the start of the movie. So we saw what he looked like. • Johnny Depp's first time voice acting in a theatrical film. Later he'd go onto voice the titular character of Rango (2011) and the titular character of Sherlock Gnomes (2018). • The climactic duel scene, which includes the drinking of poison wine by the antagonist, directly mirrors the climactic duel scene of William Shakespeare's "Hamlet". • When Bonejangles is telling Emily's story, his shadow appears on the wall as the shadow of Emily's groom. The shadow has Lord Barkis' profile showing it was him who killed her.
Yeah, but the problem isn’t that Emily is ugly(because she is pretty), the problem is that she is dead and Victor wanted to live…with Victoria. And maybe be happy with her. He was sure that he will be happy with Victoria. He began to know Emily and liking her, but not like a partner…When he decided to marry Emily he though he lost Victoria and that Emily was nice and that he could fall in love with her sooner or later. I think, I love Emily, but Victor and Victoria were meant to be and everyone of the three have a tragic backstory wanting to be happy, Emily though that Victor and Victoria deserved to be happy together and alive, like Emily couldn’t be.
Tim burton has gotta be one of my favourite creators in the world. His imagination is glorious and his Aesthetic is just incredible , I love gothic stuff despite not being a ‘goth’ and Tim just captures that vibe of life perfectly in my opinion
You know what I would have loved if they put a little epilogue at the end where Victoria and Victor welcome their first child, a girl, and decide to name Emily. In honor of the beautiful lady that helped them be together 😊
random, and i’m little embarrassed to admit, but i have a tattoo on my arm of corpse bride and victor on my arm, and i hadn’t even seen the movie, and technically i still haven’t😭i don’t really regret it tho it’s cool tattoo
There’s a running theory that the kid from frankenweenie, victor from this movie, and Jack skelington from nightmare before Christmas are all the same character during childhood, adulthood, and then afterlife
Also one of the most popular fan castings for this movie live action are spot on! Either Bill Skarsgard or Timothee Chalamet as Victor Anna-Taylor Joy as Victoria (she looks so much like her!) and Laura Harrier as Emily ( she is gorgeous and really looks like her) Not that I wish for this movie to be a live action, cause it’s perfect as it is but it’s fun to imagine it 😂
This movie's story is superior to Nightmare Before Christmas, and I'm tired of pretending it's not. The Nightmare Before Christmas probably had better art design and music, but this one had a better and more solid story.
The music for Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corpse Bride both were composed by Danny Elfman (who also played Bone Jangles), so I would expect them to sound similar. If you listen closely, you'll even hear some of the influence from his Oingo Boingo days (e.g. - Dead Man's Party, No One Lives Forever, etc.).
Fun Fact: There's a popular fan theory that The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, and Frankenwienie are connected. That the guy in all 3 movies are the same. In Frankenwienie it's shown him as a kid. In Corpse Bride it's shown him as an adult. And lastly in Nightmare it's shown him being dead and as The Pumpkin King. Also another thing that further proves this being connected is that all 3 characters have dogs. One that's alive but dies and brought back to live later, then one that turns into a skeleton, And lastly one that's a a ghost because he's in the afterlife. However this theory is later proven false. Maybe it's just a coincidence.
oh, can’t even tell you how much I love this movie! the music 💔 the story, the visuals. and I love singing “according to plan” to myself from time to time and changing my voice for every character 😆 unpopular opinion: i prefer it to the nightmare before Christmas
You should definitely check out Lemony Snicket’s: a series of unfortunate events movie! If you haven’t seen it. It has this Tim Burton vibe and amazing actors
I've noticed Tim burton loves his undead dogs. And I actually have a theory that Zero and this dog are all the same dog. I think Zero is the spirit whilst this dog is the body.
So Henry Selick's studio LAIKA was in charge of help producing this film, which in turn makes him the producer for this alongside Pixar's the late Joe Ranft. Perhaps this is swapping production roles for both Selick and director Tim Burton since Nightmare Before Christmas?
There is a fantastic "documentary" and a book that go alongside this film that make it so much scarier. They flesh out all the folk tales, crimes and urban myths. Highly recommended
(2:55) I can definitely hear Aunt Spiker in Mrs. Everglot. Wow. Been so long since Henry Selick's last production James and the Giant Peach. Here he allowed his friend Tim Burton to be in the director's chair.
Im sure someone has says this, but there was a scene cut where Victor contemplated on being with either Victoria or Emily. And at the end settled on Emily. I wish we got that number so it wpuldnt be so jarring that he wanted to die for her just because.
Corpse Bride is amazing along with other Tim Burtons movies. I grew up watching the movie along with Nightmare before christmas. By far good movies in my opinion. Glad you guys are finally doing a reaction!!! 😌
I feel like Tara would’ve remembered Sweeney Todd loll please watch all the movies you mentioned. All burton films are great for reactions ! I would love to watch any you just named :)
