Just replaced the grilles on my F45 … exactly the same process. The clips on the bottom are difficult as they need to be pushed up from underneath. I left off the metallic trims as the all-black grilles look classier. BMW we’re going to charge me £300. + labour but I bought mine off Amazon for £35 (with free shipping) ! and installation took 15 mins. Personally, I gave the area a good clean before I replaced the grills - same for the area where weather strip is fitted … Result !
how did you do the bottom ones? I got the same grille on a 17plate but the 7 seat version. the grille behind is filled in completely so you can't reach through. then rubber seals all round it and like packaging foam so I can't see the clips
I am considering using something like a bolt cutter to remove the fins so I can just reach through there from the front and undo the clips that way -- I mean, since I'm throwing them out anyway.
Looks good. My F31 has the original chrome kidneys in but the previous owner had sprayed them black. It's now starting to peel so the chrome shows through in patches. Now I know how easy they are to change, I'll be ordering some proper black ones!
This was extremely hard to do and even painful for me. I guess my hands are too big to fit in propely because I could barely reach any of the clips. Well worth it tho, gloss black dual slat looks amazing
My friend who is mechanic pulled the grills without any screws removal, within 5 secs he pulled both grills and installed the new ones. I was shocked couse i tried on this way and it was too hard so i gave up...
Can you swap the kidney grills on the LCI model since they have partly-closed grill slats on stock models? I wonder if installing these would let too much air into the cooler. I guess there is a reason why the grill is partly closed on my 163 hp model.. or no?
