Man, in today’s world, it’s great to see land being cleared for agricultural use instead of another subdivision! Keep up the great work, and I genuinely appreciate the kind words the other day in the livestream.
David Hickenbottom I hate to hear that. I think solar energy is a great idea, but down here in Georgia, there is a push to only put solar panels on land unsuitable or too hilly for farming. The good news is that there are a lot of programs going on to conserve farmland in forward thinking ways.
@@Rusted12Valve I would love to get involved in land conservation for agriculture here in my state of NC. Do you happen to know where I can information?
I ordered a mini excavator for my property and after hearing what it costs to rent that big one for a month I think I made a wise choice. Can I get everything you get done in a month with my mini? Nope, but I don't have near the land you have (I have 10 acres), but I can do everything I have to do and in the end, I can sell it and recoup some of my money. Love your videos! I have learned a lot from watching! Keep it up!
One thing I like about the escavaters is you can change the controls to what they call John deer mode and normal mode but allways something going on at your place damn I'd never get bored and I just want to come down and help ya out down there to get stuff going right along whith ya .but again great vid bud godbless
I’m surprised, seems to me NO ONE on RU-vid lets diesel equipment warm up or cool down! I guess their not aware of the damage it causes not to. Good job!
Here in the UK there's a lot of what's called machinery rings where farmers rent other farmers machines and equipment for not a lot of money. Its usually ran from a central office where you can book what you need, it works really well..
We wanted a woven wire fence....ever see a goad behind barbed wire? Nope...it won't keep goats. We went with Tornado wire because it's safe for cattle, horses, sheep, goats or even bison
Take's time to learn something new Ron...at least I'm not afraid to try learning something new and trying. The comments section has become the "BASH JOSH" section lately...seems kinda rude when I'm sharing my life with folks....wonder how you'd feel if I left this comment for you? Pretty hurtful and insulting thing to say to a stranger isn't it?
The reason people upload is to inform on achievements and mistakes to be helpful one way or another. We all need to learn continuously, Josh don’t have to take us on his journey but I enjoy watching the videos. He encourages constructive criticism all the same though
My lind of toy right there. I can sit in any piece of heavy machinery ALLDAY. Had a guy interview for a loader operator position yrs ago and he advised he knew how to drive it far better then anyone else, "cool bud, anyone can just about drive them but can you operate it". He looked at me like I had a pecker sticking out of my nose😂😂👍 im still looking for land in tn and n.c. josh so if you hear of anything decently priced let me know if you would big guy. As always, appreciate ya. Bkessings and great health to you and your family
with the land you have and all the future work to do you would be better off looking for a good used machine rather than spending all that on rental. Use it till your done and if you don't to keep it sell it and get most if not all your money back.
yep...that's why I pay for youtube premium every month....I never see an ad and get free youtube music. Once you go premium you won't go back in my opinion
I had no idea about the rental fee. But, if that's what it takes... Meanwhile the nearby shop with the excavator simulators closed up. I'll just have to keep watching you.
Yep I know Chris....If I buy one..I spend $30k...then I have to haul it, maintain it and fix it if it breaks....we're nearly done clearing our pastures. I'd rather spend the rental money...I'm paying for 2 weeks...and hand it back to United Rentals...this equipment is very expensive to keep up..one breakdown can cost tens of thousands of dollars
the big case 210cx here at my kubota and case IH dealer he's selling for $110,000 new wich not bad plus he does rent to own cheaper then the cat and deere big excavators here in canada
Hurray another video 😁🙂 was just watching some old videos thanks for your great content love all your videos they are very informative and or give me great ideas for the property I live on. Thanks for your hard work on these videos, I really enjoy them. God Bless yall stay safe 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yak attack! What the heck . Was waiting to see what you would do with an excavator. . All I saw was you playing around. Popping up an occasional scrub brush. A dozer would have been out of there in no time. Are you attempting to clear a fence line? God bless hope you get it figured out.
Im lookimg at doing the same exact thing when I get home from deployment. Looked at renting a 20k lb machine and now im thinking just go big and get it done. I have about 10 acres I want to clear and about 5000 ft of ditch bank and fence row clearing i need to do. Hope a month will do it. Thanks for your videos!
I've noticed United rentals have raised their prices here in the Bay Area only because of supply and demand. Lots of construction going on in America. Doing a great job out at Stoney Ridge Farms. Building America 🇺🇲
It's always interesting to see the progress you are making and the methods you are using. Thanks for sharing the details about cost, where you rented from and the pros and cons you found in doing such a project.
I can understand using the excavator to uproot the trees and brush, but why in the world would you use the bucket to scrape grass covered areas. You could have done that with a blade in about 10% of the time.
Well that is a whole lot of work.. Looks like you need more friends to help and nice people to bring snacks. some of those plants are well rooted. Would it go quicker if you brush hog and cut the top of the trees off and then went trough with the excavator to remove the stumps and brush. No matter how you do it. This is a character building moment. It will look great when you are done. Have a great weekend
Stoney, you need to take a day and just look at your land and reflect on how far you’ve gone so far.. I remember watching your videos way back when you where still planning and saving... You guys are doing it so right. Most people get hung up on material needs and don’t put into their land for improvement.. not you guys..It’s cool to watch you put it all together.
Hey Josh thank you for the video I enjoyed it and I tell you watching it when you made it go quickly with the time lapse that would be nice for you if everything went that's quickly for you in real time because I can imagine that that takes hours to do what you're doing there
I wish i would have videoed my lands progression like you have done. I get great enjoyment looking at your videos from 2 and three years back and seeing the new videos with all the changes.Your place has come a long way. Lots of hard work but you have a beautiful place and it just keeps getting better. Thanks for including us on your journey.
Your doing a awesome job with the excavator ,, seems like you are pretty good with it ,, enough to make the high cost of renting it a good deal ,, keep up the good work :) the cows at the start of the video all look fat slick and happy :)
Always love using backhoes, but it does take some time depending on what needs to be cleared or dug, may want to try clearing some of it with a dozer, may clear some areas a little faster. on another note, did you ever solve your water problem for the cows? you made a video saying you had trouble with the water line but never came back with an update if it was solved.
Josh I would like you to talk about what you are going to do with the wood land that is left . Pasture man Judy uses it for silver pasture and puts goats in there to clean it up . If you don't do something with it it will just turn into a mess you can't use
To where? That old turd of a dump truck is not up for an 8 hour day...but I still have to dispose of the stumps...you'll see how all this works out...and you'll be impressed
Great point....but where would I haul them....they're a problem here...and I'll just move the problem to somewhere else? Watch you'll like what we do...we're building soil brotha!
Stoney Ridge Farmer I figured you had a hole somewhere on the farm you could dump them to “hide” things and get the brush off the field. Where I’m located in Kentucky we have a lot of run off ditches and sink holes. Filling with brush slows the soil movement and fills the holes.
It's looking good Josh. Know you'll be relieved when it's done! How many head of cattle are you looking to have once you get all the pasture cleared and grown in? Really enjoy watching the progress!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmerThanks Josh, an old friend once told me it takes the exact same amount of energy to be negative as it does positive. It's a choice, not always an easy choice for some it seems!! Lol. You seem to be good at making that choice yourself! Keep up the great work and positive energy! You're much appreciated and enjoyed out here!
I know your having fun but if that was my money, I’d probably would have got the area set up with electric fence and started running cattle/pigs/sheep in there for probably 5 years and let all those stump rot. Come back in with a dozer or excavator and pop them. Those stumps and all that growth is really great food and cover for livestock and wildlife. It might look messy but after a few years with livestock you will have great pastures. You would be making money on grazing livestock and not equipment rental and diesel. Then again it makes for a fun video so tell me to shut up if you want haha
Why rent? You could purchase your equipment and have a very likey position to sell for a breakeven or maybe even a profit. $7k-$8k is a lot of room to work with when buying and selling equipment. More risk is involved, but it is not a sunk rental cost.
Josh it is always a pleasure to watch your channel in today's world it is nice to see someone building a farm from the ground up blood sweat and tears good buddy.
Can you rent these guys for a week? By the way I enjoy your videos. I live just outside of Charlotte. I would love to see your operation someday. I have dreams of renting small amount of land to raise cattle. Thanks for the content. New sub!
Hey man I live in louisburg NC, I’m looking at a 10acre tract of land that was planted with pines about 7 years ago. Im looking into buying and clearing it myself. How long do you think it would take to clear a lot that size? There are some old large stumps throughout it but mostly just 4-6” pines
Thinking about starting a business in this field. This is a career I wouldn’t mind committing to. The pay is very worth the time, and the peace you have with no one to bark orders is always a plus.
Hey Josh thanks for all you do here. I’m a novice but wondered if you could have done this job with a strong skid steer using a drum mulching head? I’m asking because I want to do this type work to my own place but figured I could rent the skid steer and maybe a rent a root rake for it as well. Cheers!
