Nice one Amarachi! Just to add to the WES evaluation... Please, do not do a WES evaluation just because you want a boost of your CGPA. That's not the goal of WES evaluation. WES evaluation is basically to get a US equivalent (4yrs/4point scale) of your academic (undergraduate) credentials (transcripts and certificates). You mostly need this evaluation if you have multiple undergraduate degrees, in which most times, one or two of the programs is/are less than 4 years. For example, (especially applicable to Nigerians) if you did an associate degree program (e.g NCE) and then a BSc degree program via direct entry (usually 3yrs), it is recommended that you do a WES evaluation of both degrees' credentials. In another example, if you did an HND program and then a BSc, it is also recommended to get an evaluation. Now, the little difference that people observe between their unevaluated and the evaluated CGPAs is because the evaluated one is on the US 4-point scale while the unevaluated one is on a 5-point scale (and the 7-point scale for students of UI). That is why “sometimes” a person who has a 2:2 on the Nigerian 5-point scale, “might” come up to a 2:1 on the US 4-point scale after an evaluation. Finally, people also get an evaluation just to further authenticate their credentials which could be useful if/when you are applying for jobs. #co-inform #mentorship
Thank you for the explanation. What of medical graduates, whose degrees (MB;BS) are not classified? Basically, there's nothing like first class, 2:1, etc. How would our grades be evaluated during PhD applications? Does WES evaluation come in here? Thank you.
Hello and thanks for this. Please do you suggest I do WES for my OND and direct entry BSC? Or I can use only my BSC degree. Please note I had good grades in both
I got a full tuition scholarship to study in Boston so I need to pay for my own accommodation and travel... Do you think a Student Homestay/RoomStay is a good choice?
Hi. It definitely is a good idea in terms of helping to save costs because Boston is pretty expensive to live in. However, you also need to think about whether this is your long-term plan for accommodation or something you want to do just until you settle in/find your footing.
