The Cost of Poaching 

I own a farm and I keep lurchers and often go on foot after a few rabbits and can wander far and wide across all the farms… I often help out with fallen sheep etc… there is a big difference between a poacher and these guys… I hate to see the average cheeky poacher getting painted with the same brush as these chavvy thugs… they shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence

Do these poachers happen to be those scumbags that don't care about others, drive illegally, rob, swear, fight, drink, dress for the track, flout the law and live in metal boxes?

The cost of poaching it should be free 👌

Rubbish , never done any of them things ,.🙄 I love nature ,enjoy the countryside, respectful of land an livestock . Walk dont drive, don't confront, never bet ,don't go in a group infact youd not know I'd been. So dont put us all in this category,I have alot of permission an a good name with the owners, but still have a look on the other side of the fence. I don't agree with the thieving an violence etc. It's got to this level since the ridiculous Hunting act.

Years ago the romantic percepection was true years ago. Sadly these days I would even call them "poachers" poacher implies a knowledge and respect of the countryside and its wildlife. These people are gangs of thugs who don't have a clue about the countryside or the wildlife that lives in it. They are only concerned about money and ego.

Not all of us are like that,I could write a book on poaching.im out whilst the wind + rain blows everyone in bed I’m out,I will never take a harem.i hunt land,river,beach.i love it.use a lot of snares in so many different ways,use corn laced for pheasant,use all kind of nets,for land river,sea I work alone I always stay with the nets.i have taught myself to use a hessian sack with weight tied off keep weight + net separate.tie a long pc of string to attached to the lower end of the net attached to the weight at bottom of sack bend the net from right to left+ from left to right,continue until the net is completely inside sack,keep a long piece of string attached to top part of net,find a nice deep pool,tie the string to your trouser belt grab top of sack throw it as far as possible usually far end of pool,wait couple of minutes for sack to sink to the bottom of pool,start pulling the string attached to your belt back towards you,as the net is puled back,the net float parts comes to the surface of the pool.now your net is set,ready for the sea trout+ salmon.the float I use doesn’t show at the surface around an inch bellow the surface.if a bailiff walks buy he will see nothing.

I disagree with the idealistic old school poacher no longer existing, they do and I don’t disagree with it. Armed trespassing and violence I do not agree with. So sad to hear about goeff’s kennels, although that could be Anti’s rather than poachers.

Why should catching poachers be a priority over house burglaries?

If you don’t have permission to someone’s land, bloody well stay off poachers are a menace .

what about the rise in badger baiting? people nailing badgers to wooded floors so they cant use claws against young dogs?

What pisses me off is seeing someone that has poached rabbits + hares,leaves the kill at the entrance what a shame killing just for the sake of killing.

In this video one of them states that hunting with dogs is banned. This isn’t true as in England an wales you can legally hunt rabbits an rats. Less knowledge people will tar legal hunting/ pest control with the same brush if they don’t know this.

Seems like nothing much has changed since the ''wild west'' 40+ years ago in terms of harrasment and intimidation of keepers,their families and possessions.Poaching is part of the rural crime umbrella.Stemming it takes head on confrontation which is risky.Less so for specialised personnel.The rural areas are the land of opportunity and generally soft targets for this particular fraternity who's activities are passed down from older generations of the same groups of individuals.I recall from being involved in local security set up to combat this kind of trespass finding young kids in their vehicles.As Mr Garrod said in so many words it is ingrained in their D&A so from past experience takes military trained operatives to stop it or pretty fearless and physically able individuals..My advice Jonny is be careful.You too could become a target for their retribution.

How about the illegal killing of birds of prey on shooting estates. As illegal prey, these birds are being poached by gamekeepers

This is alot off shit really, most shot pheasants and partridge after being shot go in a hole inthe ground or the game dealer gets them for free and buy roe deer for about a tenner a piece! Im an ex keeper i no!

Loved a bit of poaching in my early youth in the late 1970's and 1980's only one or two Trout, salmon, rabbits or pheasant for the pot, never did any damage or threatened anybody, it was all a bit of fun, crawling about like a Japanese Sniper in the dark or early hours hiding from the Gamekeepers, Farmers and Landowners. Way back then if you got caught you got your butt kicked from the Keeper your gear confiscated and got reported to your Father who also gave you a good thumping when you got home the Police were rarely ever called you had been given a good lesson either do not get caught or give it up. Realized it was wrong later on in my late teens but it is always stuck with me remembering the excitement of outwitting the Gamekeeper or Landowners. Ended up working for most of them Beating, Picking Up or Shooting 😂 There is probably 1000's of lads like myself who did the same an odd fish or pheasant, but I expect now with easier access to the countryside by city or large town gangs and Travelers running Lurchers it will be slaughter for the wildlife and serious criminal damage, violence and theft.

Poachers don't steal tractors or bait badgers. True poachers take game to eat. Travellers who bet thousands of pounds on coursing matches are not poachers. It's a pity that the police see poaching as a priority crime instead of burglary, robbery, rape, assault, fraud,

In this day and age, if you keep your dogs outside in a frigging wooden kennel, you’re an utter fool. Geoff clearly hasn’t learnt his lesson seeing as he’s still got dogs in that kennel. It’s bad enough keeping dogs outside in any kennel nowadays as it is. If you don’t want dogs or can’t have them in your house, your dog room basically needs to be Fort Knox. It needs to be as secure as possible.

We should take a note out of America, I bet there would be a lot less poachers if farmers/land owners/farmers/game keepers could use lethal force, even if it’s simply the poachers knowing that they do

I used to keeper you need attack dogs if not go armed! You are mainly talking about traveller's but a lot off settled boys as well! And there will be reprisals! I'm afraid it's part off a keepers job! I've known side bets hare coursing best off 3 off £50,000

They are not poacher they are something defrost cos go out with my dogs walking and what they cach I tack and eat and I can't get permission cos them giving a man with a dog a bad name cos we all are put in the same boat it's not rite cos there is people out there dose what you say they do but are not poachers they are something else's but a man thats walking the land will run his dog 20 times and not get anything cos that is a man that respect the land and that is a pochers not what you say they are
