Do not cover your solar equipment as the heat it generates will kill the system. Ideally it should be air-conditioned by a solar aircon. Should have been in a separate room or garage on the cool side of the house
@Ulbre

The total price seems quite reasonable considering you a diesel generator that would cost between 40 & 50K, and two big batteries that probably amount to another 100K or more depending on the size. All the solar companies are wanting around 300k for that size solar array grid tie. Enjoy :)

Find a cabinet on have one built that is tsll enough and wide enough. Remove the back of it. Add some bracing inside the cabinet so it doesn't get wobbly. If it's heavy put some wheels on it. Tou may need to add a fan on top of it if it gets hot inside of the cabinet.

It is usually the inverters that fail on Solar Power systems. I doubt if the generator will kick in if you have enough batteries and don't overuse the air conditioning.

Agree with others and simply get somebody to make a custom enclosure with some sort of false front with door so that components can be serviced. Proper venting high/low for air flow as well. Perhaps even work in a fan or something to pull in air. I know however, nothing "simple" of getting a craftsmen out but I think that will be the only hard part. Alternative would be to simply hang a couple of those carved wooden vertical panels They sell them at most furniture shops. Easy to remove and build in vents.

Hey Ben Solar looking good mate - give it a solid 12 months and you will get a better idea as to how it holds up. Then you will know if you need a few extra panels or an additional battery to minimize the use of the generator. Only actual "real life" use will be able to give you a better idea. I am guessing those 2 batteries combined are somewhere between 20Kwh and 30Kwh which can go a long way in a modern energry efficint house especially with energy efficient Air Conditioners. BTW - I am headed to Nong Bua Lamphu from pattaya around 6th of November if you fancy any "expat / UK treats" from the local expat shop Siamburis. Dan

You’re right, electricity is so reasonably priced in Thailand, it’s unlikely you’ll make any kind of financial saving over the life of the solar batteries. We just didn’t have any other option because the land we bought is so off the beaten track. The big plus with an off grid system though is the ability to buy land anywhere. We were able to purchase this 5 acres simply because there was no utility access. Equivalent plots of land with electricity close by were at least double the price.

Am i right in understanding you have to use Solar because the PEA dont supply there? I think solar is great, I see a comment below where someone says you dont have enough panels..........I was thinking the same. I guess time will tell. Personally, I would not use solar, not at 400k price, reason being, if my normal bill was 2k a month with PEA, it would take about 18 years to get my money back...........I wont live that long........ ha ha. But its looking great. No problem to cover all the boxes. Any decent handyman will do that for you. Personally, I would have had them in a cabinet on the other side of the wall, on the outside of the house........but thats just me.......
@LifeinThailand777
@LifeinThailand777 10 месяцев назад
Yes no PEA here. The cost to bring pylons to the house was millions of baht. It made sense to pay for off grid system. It wasn’t to try and save money on our monthly bill, it’s impossible to have that option where we live. The setup is inside the house for security really. I wasn’t keen on leaving half a million baht locked in a cupboard on the outside wall, especially when we’re in the Uk etc 🙏🙏
@morayr6
@morayr6 10 месяцев назад
Nice setup how much will on going maintenance costs be for the solar system? I suspect batteries will deprecate in performance over time and need replaced, I hear anything between 5 to 15 years and guess yours will have heavy use as thats main source of power. As you say no option but £10,350 for full solar with diesel generator I would say good price that as its a necessity where you are.
