The count down is on! 2 weeks until the family moves up and we start our new life off grid in Australia! We have been hard at work getting the property ready including adding the final touches on the container home, off grid solar power, tank water and filtration system.
Sean takes you though the recent completed works and lets you in on some plans we have for the near future as well as some extra planned content to keep things fun.

I love your place it's a little slice of heaven :) I'm in nsw and am moving away from Wollongong going bush and am having a tiny house built and buying a rural block of land 30 mins from Wagga I am yet to learn about off grid everything so I will watch your vids and learn more. Well done to u guys

Hey legend! how good is that! we will never go back :) off grid living is not as hard as people make it out to be. Best advice is to be mindful of the 'Worst case' situations and prepare for them. (i.e - power, we have our power setup, with a Jackery 2000 pro battery bank and a generator as backups and for water we have 2 tanks now incase one get damaged)

We have lived off grid for 18 years and have gone from 12 volt system to 48 volt system 15kw. Absolutely amazing. Would never live on the grid again. We are remote and you quickly learn what you can and cannot run. You learnt to overcome issues. Etc. Job well done. Bravo from Victoria Australia..

Hey mate, been watching your progress 👍. It's such a massive task to be off grid and living comfortably. I'm living in gympie atm, really keen to get out of town! I'm a country bloke. The first place I thought of relocating to is Bundaberg. Lived there when I was younger and always went on holidays in Bundaberg. Bundaberg has a lot of good memories for me! I love to go fishing and I love my dog more than any person I know. I have been buying some basic power stations, I like Itechworld stations and itech solar panels. The power is probably the most important factor in going off the grid. I don't have anyone in my life now, my dog is my best friend and I love her! I have brought 2 200w solar panels from itech, they seem to work well. I have PTSD, and I love being away from all the people. You guys have done a great job with your place! Love to know more about your final set-up of your solar system and how you run it. Cheers bloke

Gday, crazy dave here, watching from Melbourne. Planning on going off grid to rural Victoria soon, can't wait. 2nd time for me (I should never have moved back to suburbia). This is my new favourite video channel!! Loving everything you're doing guys. Keep the videos coming. Awesome work on the container house, I reckon you've done great. I'm a tradie and I'm not gonna fault anything you've done because you're giving it a crack and that's the important thing. You'll make heaps of mistakes and that just adds to your skill set. We will never look back on the GC life we had, we love living rural so much more. The peace, quiet and the space, wouldn't change it for the world!

Great video just a thought for you use ur ibc as wood storage for weather or use the metal cage to protect fruit trees... cant wait to see the battery system setup.... Are you going to get any live stock?

Cool setup 👍 How does starlink go there? I have gen 3 in Tasman NZ. 32 ping 300/40 ish on the cheapest $79 NZD plan. A tinnie on the lake 🤣 Foilies, I believe is the term there.

The starlink has been flawless! No drop outs, no down time. Alei works remotely so we needed fast stable connection for video calls etc and have not had a single issue yet with ours 😁🤙

I was considering a container home and have considered everthing , from tents, domes, tinyhomes, the lot. Economically and efficiency lead us to prefabs tho in the end.. well, not quite the end, weve almost finished the plot but dont have any money left for a home haha. oi, not funny! :) good work so far mate, will tune in

Thanks legends! Container homes are a great base for a tiny home. I think all up we spent 10 - 12 thousand AUD on the container home including the offgrid power and fitout. This was with the purchase of the container up around the 5k mark thanks to Covid. 😅

No Ac in the container? Have you done a summer of 40c days and no reprieve at night yet? I feel for you, ac at least to sleep in is absolutely mandatory lolol. Its looking really great tho! You should also insulate under the deck if you can too, or under the ply wood ceiling if you haven't. Might help save some energy in summer and winter and make it nicer to be in. Are the plans to build a bigger set up? Or stay like this forever?

Yea, we ended up getting a portable A/C unit for summer and ran that off the inverter. Worked well to knock the heat off before bed and if it just got too much outside during the day :) We are yet to insulate under the deck, but we have put a large rug on the floor to combat the cold floor until we get around to packing the under side with insulation. as for the roof it already has 90mm of wool insulation and works a treat, massive difference in direct sunlight from outside. Plans for a bigger home and additional buildings are in the works, we are doing all of this with our own savings/no finance so its a slow process but it will be well worth it for our family :)

Hi, how did you solve the door with your first shower cubicle (the corrugated iron one between tank and the shed). Was that a regular flyscreen door or a custom weld job for the door?

we used 25mmx 25mm angle and made a door frame paired with some hinges from Bunnings, then we used the bits we cut out to fill it in :)

Don't get caught up with thinking you can't do it with just the basics. Make sure you have great communication within the family and they are all on the same page throughout the process. Take your time building and don't be afraid to reach out for help. The biggest advice I can give is to follow your plan/vision despite what others say. You will have people who say it's stupid, your silly for doing it blah blah blah, just brush it off and don't let outside influences sway your goals. Always been a camping and adventure family. Living on the gold coast working 5 days a week to try get out bush camping for a night was getting old. Figured we could purchase a block of land, work less and build the lifestyle we only ever got to enjoy on weekends prior. Doing a half lap of Aus in a 17ft caravan gave us the confidence and ability to live with less and still have fun and not sacrifice many preacher comforts. Was not an easy choice and not the lifestyle for all but works fine for us as we are heavily an outdoors family :) Covid was the perfect example of how a densely populated area is not all its cracked up to be also hahaha.

@@offgridausI have found the same thing I'm not willing to be mortgaged to the hilt for 40 plus years I rather have less belongings and a simpler life with family as the main priority. We have really lost our ability to live on the land and going back to basics I think is better and even for our families. I'd love to see and learn about your solar set up :) awesome job

Every council is different with their rules. Ours is not fixed accomodation (its still movable because we did not fix to ground and retained the lifting points), no internal cooking facility's and no internal bathroom so we don't need building permits for this setup. similar to how people can live on a block of land in a caravan for a set period of time while things are in the works for a more permanent situation. We will need approval for our next building tho as it will be a fixed structure so we will inform everyone on that process once we get plans finalised etc :)

@@user-fz7zu7no9o we did 18 months in a caravan with a 100L tank, we will be fine haha, worst case we have a 1000L IBC tank and a tandem axle box trailer. Costs us $3.99 per 1000L from town. It's been nearly 12 months now and we have only been into town once to get additional water :) Now we are running a proper washing machine we do notice the extra usage and will be putting an additional 10,000L tank in the near future but for now with all this rain we are always 100% full 😁🤙

It's not a hard concept really, most of this was outlined in our first video 😁 We sold up on the GC, purchased a block up north by going on realistate.com and putting in an offer to the agent then purchasing the block. (For how much is irrelevant as it will vary day too day and where you look) And we drive too and from, the town is 15 mins away, we still retain a normal life just not reliant on city power, water or septic. Once we are settled and into a rhythm of everything we will elaborate in more detail the day to day workings 🙏🤙👌
