And comment. Gotta keep the algorithm on your side! It would have been so frustrating if you had to turn back. Well done getting past that minor obstacle.
Yes, although we didn't get that far, I've had to turn around from further distances on the trip, but this one worked out. Yes to comments helping the algorithm. 🙏
can't imagine how difficult it would be climbing with a fully loaded bike. But by the end of your tour, imagine how easy it will feel climbing without all of your baggage.
Yes! I can't wait until that time. But even with three weeks under the belt, I've already gotten stronger. I can now climb the hills, slowly, but I can climb them.
Thank you so much for that second episode. Can’t wait for the next one. You are doing the journey I intend to do in 2024 to initiate my retirement so I’m very interested by your adventure. When you’ll be crossing the province of Québec, if you plan to travel on the 138 on the north shore of the St-Laurence river, my wife and I would be glad to host you. We’re living in Trois-Rivieres right between Montreal and Quebec City. Be safe and enjoy your journey.
Thank you very much for your comment. I'm glad you found the video of value and I'm happy to hear you're going to be crossing Canada in the near future! Thank you for the invitation. I made a note of it. I don't have a QC route planned just yet, but if I'm in the area, I'll reach out. Thank you!
Thank you Agnieszka and Sahar for taking us with you! Yes the hills ARE tough, but with that great attitude (and dropping a bit of weight off you bikes,) you will prevail! Now I definitely am going to have to see those trestles in person. Yea Sahar! I have had washouts or fallen trees where it is definitely "Well, I am NOT going back!". It is trickier with fully laden touring bikes! Great that you just broke it down into pieces. Thanks about the criter foiling strategy! I am learning so much! Also highlighting improvisation and adaptation! That is how you keep rolling. Love the Warm Showers examples too! Roll On!!
I'm not sure how I missed this comment! Thank you for taking the time to write it and for commenting on Sahar's attitude. It was great! And she was a fabulous travel companion.
A very enjoyable episode, great job! It's always a hard decision to make when encountering those trail/road closed signs. Often it's possible to squeeze your bike past whatever the obstacle is, but there are certainly times when you are forced to backtrack and take the detour. Looking forward to Episode 3!
I love chocolate too: Dark Chocolate covered walnuts, almonds, Hershey's Special Dark with Almonds, Dark Chocolate Orange Jewels...Raw nuts and other trail mixes are good to snack on for cyclists too :)
I had a tree down across a trail once, no warning, took the panniers off and lifted the Sutra over. The best part was no ATV's were able to travel it so just me and some joggers that day.
Oh and by the way, all the cool backpackers on the Appalachian Trail use bear bags for food storage. It's a light weight bag that they hang from a tree branch. You have a long way to go and many animals along the way. It's worth investigating.
What a beautiful start to the journey ahead!!! I was wondering if you could give some info on your bike mirror. I would like to try bar end shifters but, for me, I don't want to go w/out a rear view mirror. Mine attached to the bar end. The one you are using seems like a good alternative. Thanks. I am looking forward to seeing more of your upcoming adventures. Safe travels. ✌🏼, Rob
Sure. The little bike mirror I have is the M-Wave Spy Mini II mirror amzn.to/3a4Pyos (affiliate link). It articulates and its perfect for me. I've dropped my bike multiple times on this trip and the mirror just keeps going. It's quite small, but exactly what I need.
I spent 4 years commuting from Staten Island to Brooklyn by way of Manhattan. My commute in the morning was early, so traffic was light, but my commute home was during rush hour in crazy traffic. At that time, there were far fewer bike trails & lanes, and just seeing that bus go by at 0:32 brought it all back...
Awesome tent choice I use the same on my adventures. Enjoy your trip and live the moment it's a blast. I'm heading out for my Adventure ground mid June, can't wait. Have a safe journey. Great video. I always admire people traveling on bicycles for a long distance while I ride my Motorcycle. Three years ago we met a man in Utah travelling on a bicycle across the USA and had a long chat exchanging information.
@@WheelsonaBike oh wow I have been using the stand for a few years now in heavy rains down in British Columbia while I was riding my motorcycle never had any issues maybe you just got a folded one I have also applied the sealer or additional sealer on all the seams
@@WheelsonaBike they will not accept the return you can buy the spray and spray the tent along the seams that should solve your problem unless you have some rip
Thank god I cycle my Kona sutra in Germany und Europe in its beautiful bicycle trials and cycle ways 😉 can’t imagine driving next to trucks like this in any highway. Bravo!! 👍🏼
@@WheelsonaBike Mm i mean Europe;) we got amazing bicycle trials so no need to go out on the highway.. I think you are not even allowed to go on the highway. So ride safe pls.. greetings from Switzerland (riding right now out of Germany right now😁)
How was the highways? I hope you won't be forced to rely on them more then necessary! Here in Quebec, bikes are forbidden which can be a shame but we often have parallel roads that can be used, fortunately. Anyway, great video again, I can't wait for next week! ^
I've been on the highways LOTS! Have to say that BC drivers, for the most part, are super respectful and the shoulders are good. I look forward to Quebec as I've only heard good things about the cycling infrastructure in the province.
Great video! I didn't even know about this trail, as my tour started in Tofino. But this is nice! Those washouts seem to be very common in the mountains. Happy trails. Can't wait to see the next episode.
I'm editing on the road. The videos are a couple of weeks behind, but I'm on the road. My workflow is to transfer my videos on the daily basis and then take a couple of rest days to edit everything.
Sorry to burst your bubble but your starting at mile 5063. Canada starts at Cape Spear, Newfoundland where the sun rises first in Canada. You may know of Terry Fox from BC who began his run cross Canada in St. John's?
@@WheelsonaBike ...and I'll be following. The abandoned railbed from Port aux Basques where the ferry docks from NS through to St. John's might be a bit rough in places for narrower tires where there's still a lot of ballast on the track. People generally ride on plus or fat bikes.
Great start of the adventure ! Any idea how heavy your bike is with all the equipment? I just bought a lock that's over 1 kilo and strangely enough found myself wondering whether or not i actually need a lock for my next trips ;-)
My bags weigh about 35 KG (as per the weight at the airport), and the bike is about 13 KG. So it's a considerable weight. Also depends on how much food I have, and how much water I'm carrying. Bike gets lighter at the end of the day.
