English is my 3rd language, so I don't know the right words to describe the awesomeness of this band. But people who love this band, probably understand what I feel.
Let me fix your reply for you: If you can understand me, go fuck yourself, because English is my third language! This band is fucking wicked! (You're welcome)
The CRAMPS embodied and celebrated everything that was great about American music, art, photography, fashion, cars, and pop culture in general. Lux and Ivy were trendsetters without ever becoming trendy themselves. They were the nucleus of one of the greatest rock and roll bands the United States could lay claim to; always true to their sound, vision, showmanship, and most of all - their loyal fans. They lived the American dream without any strings attached, or apologies given or implied.
richardvollin agreed, but for me it was the bloody, blended concoction of all that incorporated sub culture. Ivys rhythmic grinding of then dead surf guitar with Luxe...priceless. Monsters, mayhem, dope fiends and undead rock n roll. Man i feel old, but im proud to say i was part of the birth of American Psychobilly. You hipster fucks will never know....
I've just discovered this band! This song, this performance embodies the soul of Rock N Roll! The guitar wall of sound and distortion and feedback is my dream!
saw a lot of bands and there are very few who could hold a candle to the live show the Cramps put on. Never left thinking I didn't get my moneys worth from any of the shows I saw over a number of years. Thanks for the reminder.
I was in a small weekend alternative healing class with Lux and Ivy in Encino, CA. Late 1980's or early 1990's, can't remember exactly. Didn't know who they were at the time, but they did share a bit of their musical background with our class. They were thoughtful and quiet students like the rest of us in the class. I remember them fondly and, yes, I can say today that The Cramps kick major ass.
I love they show Ivy's hands . Even though as a teen I thought of only teen dirty thoughts . As I'm older now I recognize her true guitar talents and still have those teen thoughts ;-)
By far one of the greatest bands I ever saw live twice in the late 1980s when I was a kid in southern California. If the Cramps ever get together for a tribute to Lux, Iggy Pop would be the best suited to sing in Lux's place. RIP Lux.
@@shaunclubberlang2887 No kidding. I think we can all agree with you but I'd rather have an older cat from the same generation with a deep voice sing in tribute to Lux, and not to attempt to copy him. I don't want to see some younger guy acting like Lux as the lead singer to a Cramps come back tour. Sadly, the Cramps is no more. Even more sad would be to see the rest of the band just whither away. I think Peter Murphy would also be a great option but I'm sure he would never do it.
Saw these guys in the 80s with Lux wearing a gold lame thong and Poison Ivy wearing a belly dancer outfit - They were phenomenal. I love the gritty messiness of them.
I remember watching The Cramps for the first time when my dad got one of those ancient 8ft satellite dishes, and nothing was encrypted, so you could basically watch all TV for free. One of the channels was showing Urgh! A Music War. My dad was so aghast at the Cramps, but I thought hey this is cool.
The most gritty and soulful rendition of this song I've ever heard. Hats off to Return of the Living Dead for exposing me to The Cramps. I know I got to the party a little late, but I still got here with plenty of time to have some fun!
I heard this song for the first time in 1967 on the local am top 40 station.Iwas my cousin's rec room by myself when it came on.i got right up and turned the radio and stood with my back against the imitation wood wall bouncing back and forth. It was so good that I remembered it in detail.Iwas seventeen at the time.
I saw them at Shaboo Inn in Willimantic Connecticut ..There was about 200 people there ..Look at this concert Thousand and thousands of people..I'm so glad I saw them in 1981..What a great band I saw the original CRAMPS
@Frank Filthyfinger Although I think she is awesome in her distinct way, I have to agree. Underrated is not the word I would use. I hear the same word tossed around about Gregg Ginn, who is, in point of fact, the very worst guitarist in world history to ever achieve his level of notoriety. He sounds like a garbage disposal going around with a fork stuck in the rotor.
she's great for this music .... it's sad that she kind of disappeared after Lux Interior died ... don't know much about what she has done since ... maybe just retired entirely!
Psychotic Reaction was on what I believe was Los Angeles AM radio station KRLA's greatest hits in 1967 or 68. My favorite song, "Dirty Water," by the Standells was on the album too. Being that The Cramps did Psychotic Reaction which they credit to Count Five, they might consider performing Dirty Water: "Down by the river, along with the lovers, fuckers and thieves. Oh, I love that dirty water." The song has a great beat and the guitar kicks ass. The Cramps should check it out. They'll dig it.
Best band ever, saw them back in the day with Gregory and nick, that's was it for me lightbulb moment,it felt like l was plugged into the mains they lit me up what a sound! I really miss them.
What I Love about the Cramps is that if they are slightly out of tune it only serves to enhance the effective edginess that would destroy a lesser band.
@@Ojoe2010 hence the air quotes. Oh yes, what attracted me to them in the first place was their sense of play, their smart-silly affection for the music and each other. Lux and Poison are my favorite nerds! (When I was a kid in the '60s I had these weird "monster sounds and dance music" albums--do the Twist while chains clank and wolves howl!--and I'll bet Lux and Poison knew those LPs too.)
That’s a Jack Casady Bass! I also noticed his carseat strap at 2:57. Something I wanted to create for the longest time. The Cramps were living a dream, or at least living out mine
Psychotic reaction ! Le titre du Count Five, qui donne le titre du gros bouquin de/sur Lester Bangs ! Reprise par les Cramps ! AAAAARGHH, merci @TheManus02
Never knew a band that could produce so much energy, and they’re music will live on forever. Now America has Justin Bieber and Katy Perry... so depressing
Paul Jarvis You’re depressing. The Cramps were never chart toppers or massively popular like Bieber or Perry. They used to play to three hundred people a lot of the time. America has way more than just those two, get off your arse and seek out some bands that could use some support instead of moaning that yesterday was great but now everything’s crap.
This song kicks ass!!! Rolled over by itself from another song I was listening to. I've never listened to the Cramps, but am about to listen to a bunch of their songs hopping I like them as much as this song.
Probably most of the crowd weren't born or were in nappies when the Cramps started out but just look at the reaction! That isn't just smiling at some old folks, no sir that is getting into rock n roll proper!!
Really? I like all the classic early rockers. You don't think the Cramps were champions of rockabilly, garage rock and all kinds of fun old stuff that most people have no idea ever happened? Plus they have a totally fun take on the whole primitive rock thing. No, they are not a band of Mozarts, but they got the job done.
