Never thought I would see Weird Al either but he is a super talented borderline genius musician. And the the king of Pop parody! And Achy breaky fit the theme perfectly.
I think most classic country fans love C W McCall's song Convoy. But you could make some people laugh with a piece of Wolf Creek Pass. That song didn't make the radio near as often but it was funny. "Sign says clearance to the twelve-foot line But the chickens was stacked to thirteen-nine"
Another great and entertaining episode, thanks Kevin for doing them for us. How about some more humorous tunes from Canada - Corb Lund & my friend Jaida Dreyer "Horse Poor"?
I was just thinking about a George Jones song the other day, High Tech Redneck. That also got me thinking about another Cletus T Judd song, which also has the legendary Buck Owens, I think was called First Redneck on the Internet.
I think I've said this before, but it bears repeating: I'm not going to recommend any specific songs for future chapters because I figure if you do enough chapters you'll cover pretty much every single one of them anyway. Thanks man, keep 'em coming!
I do eventually get to most of them. After episode 10, I am thinking about taking a little break from the CRAZY songs and start a possible series on drinking songs. Like crazy songs there are so many!
There's more crazy country songs by the legendary Stompin Tom Connors. My first time hearing him was was in in music class. The song was Bud The Spud. There's also Moon Man Newfie and The Bug Song
Its funny just yesterday I was wondering when the next would be. Another great Cledus T Judd (No Relation) song is "Its a great day to be a guy" I feel like if you were doing Dean Carters "Did I shave my legs for this" You should have paired it with Cledus "Did I shave my back for this" I would have suggested Lobster and never flounder, but you referenced it in a previous video or so I thought. Ray Stevens to cover The haircut song Next time how about Alan Jackson and Jeff Foxworthy "I'm married to a waitress" (I don't even know her name)
My coworker said something that reminded me of what I thought was a 70"s song. Come to find out, 'The Willis Brothers' released "Give Me 40 Acres(and I'll Turn This Rig Around. " in 1964.
Binge-watched all seven episodes of Crazy Country Songs in one night! I love all country music from the 1920's to the 2020's. Country music for me was all about story songs years ago. Some of my favorite funny story songs: The Winner by Bobby Bare, The Day I Jumped From Uncle Harvey's Plane by Roger Miller, Classified by C. W. McCall, The Little Lady Preacher by Tom T. Hall, and Who’s Gonna Run the Truck Stop in Tuba City When I’m Gone by Leroy Van Dyke.
It seems that your name is popping up everywhere these days, Nicole Jewell. I know that you love John Schneider and this truly is one of his funniest songs. I like it too.
As another Canadian I thought of Bud The Spud by Stompin' Tom Connors. Another Roger Miller song for this collection is Do-Wacka-Do. Since you mention a song written by Bill Anderson here is one more for you by Bill. It is the song called Peel Me A Nanner.
a few more you might want to look into, all by the Arrogant Worms (a Canadian band). "Lonely Lab of Broken Hearts" (a "she left me" one with a scientific spin). "Trapped in a Country Song" "Particle Board" (sort of heavy metal country).
I am not sure if this counts as being a country song, but in the mid 1970s, there was this Norman Lear show called Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman where an actress named Mary Kay Place was a country singer and one of the songs made it to the charts. The song was Baby Boy which describes her manager, who happened to be her lover and he was as old as her father. She must have really enjoy his bald head. LOL
I love that song. It's the reason l started watching that crazy show. On the show, her character was named Loretta Haggard. Do you remember her & Willie Nelson did a duet? "Something to brag about."
Playing Charlie Daniels' "Uneasy Radio" reminded me of an updated version called "Uneasy Rider '88". That's a good one. Since you mentioned Pinkard and Bowden, how about "Driving My Wife Away"?
As a nascar fan one that comes to mind for me is Dale Darrell Waltrip Richard Petty Rusty Awesome Bill Irvin Gordon Earnhardt Smith... Johnson, Jr. by Tim Wilson
Apologies if you've mentioned him in an earlier installment and I just missed it, but I'd love to see you check in on Don Bowman, in particular "Hello DJ" that features his side of a phone call to Ralph "Grand Ol' Opry" Emory himself. Not sure if an unbleeped version actually exists, but I figure you'd know if anyone.
I did and it is a good song. I learn more and more doing these videos and especially that South Africa makes some good country music. That song has a popish flavor to it but probably more country than some "country" songs released today.
@CountryMusicTimeMachine The song was on the weekly program of country music called "Gentle on my mind" in South Africa. You should listen to "Barbara's Daughter" by Vangie Coker . It's a really sweet song.
We need more of these all the time! I'm losing track of what you've shown, but The Bird by George Jones is great and The F Word by Hank Williams Jr & Kid Rock is amazing!
Do you or anyone else remember from the early 70s Ray Stevens recitation called, "The phone call from Heaven." We had the album but Dad took the album(early 2000s) out of the house & never brought it back home.
I know he had one called "No Lawyers in Heaven". I can't find that one but found one similar, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YdxiQSQdkSo.html
@CountryMusicTimeMachine The phone call from Heaven was played on the radio stations even though it was over 5 mins long. It was very popular, but it seems like no one today knows about it. It's about God talking to a guy(Ray Stevens) about why he doesn't go to Church, tithes, pray, etc. & the guy keeps making excuses for himself.
Hey there love your show absolutely love your show. What do you think about playing... The 90s version of uneasy rider. That's Hysterical. Also wanted to say a lot of these songs on this particular episode, We have never heard before but we are going to be looking for them!! and don't forget about Put Another log on the fire.!!
I have always liked Uneasy Rider. I think partially because one night thirty some years ago I had an experience in my life that I could relate to that song. I wasn't driving a chevy but was driving a very fast 68' Pontiac Firebird and that car is why the guys pursuing me from a local bar didn't get a hold of me.
@@CountryMusicTimeMachine I had to sell that car many years ago when I was raising three daughters. I just bought another 68' Firebird. I tagged it three days ago.
While Jerry Reed was best known for comedy songs, he did write one beautiful ballad - A Thing Called Love (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uZfP5DKRxn0.html). I think both Glen Campbell and Johnny Cash covered the song.
Could you please play peel me a nanny taws me a peanut by Roy Drusky or Blue Cycle by Ray Steven’s thank you for the great music you are playing great job 👍👍
Everyone of these is deserving, but I have 2 problems. You should have had Deanna Carter first and followed by Cletus "did I shave my back for this?". The other problem is not following "uneasy rider" with "uneasy rider 88".
Kevin, you assume that I am very smart and could actually pull off great segues like that. But it is a great flow to do something like that! I will hopefully remember it for future reference!
Kevin, been enjoying this series, keep them coming. Let me throw a few more into the mix of suggestions - Ray Stevens - "Help Me Make it Through the Night" (a twist on an old standard in a way only Ray could do it) Buck and Buddy Alan Owens - "Pffft you were gone" (As a fan of Hee Haw, you'll remember the chorus) Buck and Buddy Alan Owens - "You're a Real Good Friend" Buck Owens and Ringo Starr - "Act Naturally" Hank Snow - "I've Been Everywhere" (of course I'm fond of the Statler Brothers version, as it gets crazier the faster the song gets in latter verses)
Great suggestions. Stand by for a version of "Pffft you were gone" in Episode 8. I relate it to a real life experience! That episode comes out on Sept 5!
