@@MartialArtsJourney the loser lose video was great, so looking forward to this one! If youre looking for a slightly more realistic martial arts anime, kengan ashura would be worth a breakdown too 👊👊
I've done it the most in video games too. Especially the ones that required the utmost concentration. But I've done it a time or 2 in my martial arts training.
Baki, Kengan Ashura/Omega, and History’s Strongest Discipline Kenichi are some of my favorites. They have in common that they explain real martial arts theory. Of the three, Kengan is probably most valuable when it comes to explanations and variety, but Kenichi is better at integrating the tools one can pick up from all the martial arts. Kenichi is the “MMA” manga I have read at that rate.
@@joshuabradshaw2107 there is manhwas (korean long strip style series) most famous is ptj and its series i recommend how to fight and lookism you can look manager kim but that series is like a bruce lee and rambo mixup
@@joshuabradshaw2107yeah it has like 50 episodes and it’s a fun anime, definitely my personal favorite out of those 3 but sadly the anime didn’t continue the rest of the manga since apparently the anime caught up to the manga and just moved on to other stuff lol but after you do watch the episodes also check out the OVAs which is like 11 more episodes that continues the story after episode 50
Honestly i would love to see you break down the martial arts in the fighting manga Holyland. Its about a kid fighting on the street and meeting and fighting all kinds of people practicioning different martial arts. The author has some fighting experience himself and always adds his own little notes about the fighting techniques. A lot more realistic than most other fictional stories about martial arts.
Me too. I never expected to enjoy HolyLand so much, it's much more realistic than other fighting manga. Every fight is grounded in reality. For example they show just how frightening Judo and other grappling techniques are when done on concrete, how even a simple double leg takedown can affect someone if their back hits the concrete. It has this quality about it... Almost like an "instructional fighting manga ". Sometimes the author directly gives us, the readers, tips on how to handle different scenarios to improve our survival "in the streets" in self defense situations. I would love to see your opinion on some of the self defense scenarios and tips presented in HolyLand. If anyone can do this I am sure it's you, Rokas Sensei 🤝🥋 Love your Baki videos, I'm glad someone finally decided to break down Baki with this approach, it's something that's never been done before, fresh, inspiring and fun to watch. PS: Also wanted to Thank You for the fact that you inspired me to take my own martial arts journey to the next level. You always seek new ways to improve, push forward and overcome your limits... You are a big inspiration for all of us martial artists walking on the Path ! OSS!🥋🫡
That flow state thing saved me when I hit a patch of ice while driving too fast. Time slowed and I became calm and calculated, I avoided spinning out and hitting the ditch without going into traffic in the other lane. I've gone into that flow state 3 or 4 times in my life.
It's the one thing that I love about this series even when it goes full-tilt insane. The vast majority of the nonsense portrayed has some basis on martial arts theory or hypothetical martial arts being allowed to work at the highest possible level or just a few steps beyond.
@MartialArtsJourney Had the pleasure of meeting you at the Sydney event you hosted recently (it was amazing) and i was blown away by how kind, approachable and fun you are! I was really taken aback by the votes that most people thought you would lose, as you were my pick to win with your experience of coming into MMA! You did awesome , and as a Baki fanboy these videos are amazing!
Baki is the X Files of martial arts, it can be inspirational. S. Kotlers work is quite valuable; it enriches any training methodology in a truly expansive way.
@@MartialArtsJourney you also have to check out Fist of the north Star / Hokuto no Ken. 80s, Testosterone filled, Bruce Lee, Jesus and Chuck Norris, Superman, in one (or a few) Character(s), using Assassination Techniques.
Itagaki was a nationally ranked amateur boxer back in his paratrooper days. Japanese paratroopers also get a lot of weapons training. Apparently he also has a black belt in Shorinji ryu kenpo.
3:30 you should check Randy Brown about Mantis Boxing history and practicality. Also, mantises are common in chinese stories,as symbols of fighters. Like the famous theme in art of the Mantis against the Chariot
Flow state is something that happens to people when deeply engaged in anything. It happens to me when play games sometimes its something that just happens spontaneously and fades without noticing sometimes.
Thanks! I'm really disappointed this video so far is getting really low traction, even though I think Baki fans would enjoy it. Who knows, maybe it will find the right audience in due time :)
Baki is a crazy anime! I dunno if it's possible to choke out a mantis because of the exoskeleton, and Miyamoto Musashi used a longer bokken to fight sometimes... Ya, I'm a geek! LOL
It's funny you mentioned shadow boxing (I'll try and keep this brief, no undies) cause it reminds me of this Capoeira training session I was in, and I met an Angolero by the name of "águia" for his uncanny ability to never keep his eye off his opponents no matter what is being done in a roda. But when I was seeing him train on his own, it was night (we train outside) with only the lights of the location keeping everything on, and he was playing music while staring at the shadow reflected on the concrete floor and walls. Dude was literally fighting/sparring against his shadow like Peter Pan. Literal Shadow Boxing aside, I wanna see you do a break down on Kenichi The mightiest Disciple
6:20 the “unliftable body” technique has real fighting application. I was once in a fight with an older guy, he was on the chubby lumberjack side. I wanted to box but he tried to take me to the ground but because of my stance he couldn’t move me, that gave me the opportunity to use his weight against him and get him on his back.
I know it's been recommended, but you should seriously check out Kengan Ashura. It is the embodiment of the abbreviation MMA. Also, there's a lesser talked about anime called Kenichi: Earth's Mightiest Disciple, where the protagonist, who is timid to a fault, trains under 4 masters in their respective styles. Those being, Judo, Karate, Chinese Kenpo, and Muai Thai. You might find it interesting.
Baki is it is my favorite anime it teaches martial arts, Bravery, masculinity, relentless confidence, Determination, Dedication, hard work to stay ready for may challenges it's
Loved this, you should check Kengan Ashura. Its a great martial arts anime that uses fantasy based and pressure tested martial arts. The 3d CGI make the fights easy to follow
Herre in Finland, our gybsy Elders used to bind horse mouth rope in their hands, and then they both took knifes and fought. There are cases when they only used One same knife, and after a decided Time limit, they changed, With other One taking THE knife, and first One defended.
I'm assuming you didn't, and if you really haven't, I recommend watching the 2000s Baki as well. That's way before the Netflix-era Baki is even a thing.
One important factor regarding flow state is the task at hand must be at the optimal difficulty. This means the task can't be too difficult, nor can it be too easy. It has to be just challenging enough. Humans actually can regularly enter the flow state, for example when driving, playing video games, or a musical instrument.
@@MartialArtsJourney I can tell I’m a pro boxer but my dad was a from Hong Kong and was a southern praying mantis master and I can attest to the things you researched as very true
Wang Lang wasn't out to invent a new martial art. He challenged some Shaolin monks and got his ask kicked. When he was licking his wounds and in the middle of a pity-party, he noticed a couple of praying mantis fighting, he studied them and then developed his renowned Praying Mantis kung-fu style, of which numerous praying mantis kung-fu styles developed afterwards.
At 9:59, that picture does not show a duel over a handkerchief, it’s from a manuscript written by Talhoffer back in medieval times. It depicts a judicial duel between a man/husband (in the hole with a mace/club) and woman/wife (with the sock/cloth with a rock/pebble in it) iirc.
I was waiting for a video like this. Finally someone made one. Just be careful because animes do love to misconstrue and add hype to things for the sake of anime. In the end it's still mostly a fictional based action, only with a dose of accuracy in martial arts history and names. They can't even use real names in the anime half the time.
A theory I have about Baki, and his Shadowboxing technique: he has a unique brain and it allows him to control the cells in his body. He can make his cells take actual damage. Not confirmed and just a theory I have.
Spoiler : Baki's father Yujiro Hanma has demon back. During a check up of baki he got his brain X rayed. The docter was shocked by the reports of his brain. Baki has demon brain
I can verify for the most part image training. I can’t see so when I look up boxing forms on RU-vid, I have to use my imagination to try and fill in the blanks and about nine times out of 10. My movements come out natural.
Although there is some interesting ideas, Baki still is a grotesque and ridiculously over the top anime. I really cannot comprehend why youtube algoritm keeps suggesting me baki videos.
There are some cases where a trained fighter could fight more than one opponent in a self defense situation, not saying in all situations and I'm not saying all trained fighters, but I just wanted to say if you're a trained fighter and you know how to adjust your style against more than one person who wants to attach you and if they are just regular guys, it seems you have a greater chance of surviving or even winning against them than what regular guy or marshal artists who doesn't compete in full contact combat sports like boxing or MMA, those guys doesn't have experience under pressure and they lack the ability to fight back, I had watched a one person knocking 3 men one at a time using only basic boxing, because he didn't allowed those 3 men to surround him
Would love to seee this done with Kenichi the mightiest disciple. Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi And Hajime no Ippo If you have not yet. Thanks for the great content!👍👍
Don't be so sure. I've seen videos on facebook showcasing praying mantis's fighting off cats. So a mantis fighting off a bird may not be as fair fetch as one might think.
not to be a poop but shadow boxing is directly correlated to your mind muscle connection, if you have enough self hatred your shadow boxing stomach cramps can easily make you vomit just like a real punch
I know this is off topic here, but I didn't know anywhere else to contact you. I wanted to let you know I found Shomen Uchi Shiho Nage off a Judo style grip fight drill this morning. There are def things you can make work.
I truly believe if Mike Tyson fought 3 people one of them would be out of commission after his first punch then he'd do the same with the other 2 sometimes someone has so much natural power
The reason Baki is sparring insects is not to improve his technique. Baki mentally spars with praying mantis and cockroaches exclusively to hone his reflexes and killing instinct. The show gives a really unique view on eccentric training techniques that are sometimes used by successful fighters in different disciplines.
Huh, the zen moment. I think I had the same with snowboarding and other sports... I don't think you need to be pro level to have this moment. You need to be competent enough to understand though! Thanks for sharing! I may go watch this anime now... 😅
One of the very first figth oriented manga I read Is "Tough", and later its sequel "Free Figth". It is about a young guy who is trained by his father in the ultra secret martial art technique of his family, called the Nadashinkage, who happen to be a very complete martial art. I read it prior to Baki, and this his pretty mich why I don't like Baki. Tough is better drawn, has a better story, better characters (Kiryu, who appear late in the first serie, is a way better Yujiro in my opinion) and is more believable (but having his fair share of unbelievable things too) IMHO. I used to think Baki took after Tougth, but after looking at the date of publication for those two manga, it is certainly the opposite, but I still read Tough first. There is 3 OAV of it, covering a little bit of the story, you can find it on the internet, as I don't know if you can still buy of find the manga (it was in the late 90/early 2000 that I read it).
Fun fact: Itagaki, the mangaka of Baki, has a daughter, Peru Itagaki, who made the manga of Beastars. It has a lot of interesting fights in it, so maybe you can cover it too
NO , WHATEVER YOU DO NEVER THINK OF WATCH OR REVIEW BEASTARS. If you want to know why, caution yourself After seeing this comment, I thought, hmm what could that be, It’s animal pornography
@@MartialArtsJourney I think the best show of actual martial arts was when Legoshi had a muzzle put on him and fought some street thugs. It's where he's at his most technical
You watched the dub?!?!!!??!?!! Stick to the original to see exactly what the author was trying to convey. Dub changes the dialogue and situations of the story
Thats what you are wrong about. The martial arts aren't the thing being defeated. Use your head. It's the Martial artist. There is no bad martial art (if it is a martial art, meaning it was used in combat or war) they were definitely viable especially to the group or land that were in war. If not, they would die. We see these martial arts that exist in certian parts of the world that have survived for hundreds of years. They must be viable and practical if they exist for so long. Master Masaaki Hatsumi once told me that "you shouldn't worry about if it will work or not in the streets. You make it work or you die. Those who say "it won't work in the streets" often are the first to die" end quote.
