It's interesting seeing Wario being willing to help Cream out. At this point even other Olympic Games had been showing him to be a jerk, so he must have really wanted to make her happy.
If Warioware is anything to go by, he will be fair and kind to kids enough that most don’t dislike him, but he has no issues taking their money (he probably take a kids piggy bank if he could get away with it). So yeah, Wario making Cream pay a lot yet give her a pleasant helicopter lift sounds in character...
@@banjo9158 You may be expecting too much for someone to fly high the highest building in the world... It would be like me saying “You got arms and legs, why don’t you climb Mount Everest?”
You know what's weird about Cream? How she never mentions her mom , or having parents at all , even in passing. While her acting like a Pokemon trainer in funny , it brings up an important issue. "Why is Sonic Team afraid of it's characters having a place to belong?"
Then where is Vanilla? A minor went on an international flight , with a pet , ALONE. And she talks as if she's old enough to act on a whim like an 18 year old. I don't know what is going through the writer's at Sonic Team , but it's pretty weird.
Even if Cream is never gonna be classified as a hero again anytime soon, I still hope that in future Sonic games, she's still given as big of a spotlight as she used to have back in the 2000s.
@@devinsauls9137 YES, THIS!! I NEED THIS, I LOVE WHEN CHARACTERS HAVE MEANINGFUL INTERACTIONS AND COMPELLING PERSONALITIES AND HAVE AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE STORIES, TAKE US BACK TO THE 2000S 😭💔
I did actually stumble into Cream while playing the story mode and I honestly went out of my way to search every map to find her and see what she had to say. It’s honestly just really cute to see she’s off on her own little adventure. Honestly surprised she wasn’t playable, since she was playable in one of the previous Olympics.
I definitely felt that emotional feeling at the end of the video. Even though I never really played the Olympic games to a full, it really makes it special to see 2 opposite franchises that use to rival so much way back then to be brought together showing everyone is having a great time. They might still be rivals of old but they're the best of friends in the new.
The moment Cream said "let's enjoy Tokyo together," I had a sudden urge that if I were to ever visit Japan one day, I gotta bring a Cream and Cheese plushie with me LOL so we can enjoy Tokyo together 😭🙏
Idea: as a reward for visiting each of the places, Cream remarks about how someone was able to get a picture of them together in each of the places as Cream says she'll be making a scrapbook to show her mom back at home For Chapter 5, the picture would be Cream, Cheese, Tails, Luigi, and Amy all in the scramble crossing. They look a little lost and you can see Tails asking a local for directions. Also you can have Cream holding Amy's hand because that's adorable. For Chapter 7, the picture would be Cream, Cheese, and Daisy inside a kabuki theater during a show with Cream sneaking a picture. Cream is covering the camera with her other hand but you can see Daisy in the background looking absolutely amazed. For chapter 9, Cream, Cheese, and Todette are carrying a comically large amount of souvenirs from Foottown, with Cheese visibly struggling to carry so much weight. Toadette looks okay but Cream is doing her best to help Cheese with a hand ready just in case he falls. Chapter 11 would 100% be Cream, Cheese, Yoshi, Wario and Waluigi looking out from the observation decks. Also, because I think it would be adorable, Cream should be on Waluigi's shoulders to get an even higher view. Chapter 13 would be Cream, Cheese, Peach and Amy looking down and out from Tokyo Tower, with Cream pointing to something off screen, which would probably be Mt. Fuji. Chapter 15 is one that I reaaallly like the idea for, being Silver, Espio, Cream and Cheese all doing the proper ritual hand washing. Espio looks like he's doing it effortlessly, Silver looks like he's doing his best to do it properly, Cream is looking over at Espio's hands as if to copy what he's doing and Cheese is struggling to hold the dipper due to his lack of fingers. Chapter 17's picture would be one of Vector, Diddy Kong, Shadow, Knuckles, Cream and Cheese all sitting down in front of Tokyo Station with the food they got from Asakusa. Diddy Kong and Knuckles would be sharing a Sukiyaki (A type of Beef Hot Pot), Cream and Shadow would all be sharing a bowl of animitsu (a japanese dessert made from Agar jelly and ice cream). Cream would be spoon feeding something into Shadow's mouth who looks a little embarrased that he's being spoonfed by a 6-year-old. Last but not least, Vector would be holding a bottle of Denkiburan (An alcoholic cocktail popular in Asakusa) away from Cheese desperately trying to grab it as Cheese is underage but Vector is not. For the postgame, as a reward for witnessing every cutscene, you get one final picture: A large group photo with everyone in the bullet train with Crea and Cheese front and center on the bullet train. Some of them could be holding Bento Boxes, some of them could be looking out the window, some of them could be talking, but Cream is smiling resting a bit while leaning on Blaze's shoulder with Daisy patting her on the head and Cheese would be sitting on Cream's lap.
I can't believe an entire hidden side story exists in a game I've played twice without finding it. I'm definitely going to start a new game inorder to experience this first hand. I love all tbe research you put into this video. Amazing job. I hope Cream someday gets used for something major storywise again.
I love that everyone treats Cream as their little sister, wanting to help her out while she’s venturing around Tokyo and learning a lot about it. It’s nice that they want her to be happy and have a good time. It’s like going to an amusement park with your younger sibling who gets exciting about everything around them. It’s all so wholesome and sweet.
This honestly feels like a promotional video for Japanese landmarks and I love it. There were times I genuinely forgot you were talking about a video game and the fact that it’s all centred around Cream, a rather unappreciated character is just the icing on the cake. This also cements the fact that between his writing and his voice, Charriii can take literally any topic, even something that I knew nothing about like Japanese traditions and locations, and make it interesting and fun. Great video!
@@banjo9158 yeah.. no. Classic is an altered past. Yes they considered classic as the past. But you'll only see classic stuff in modern by flashbacks and any sort of past reminisce. After sonic generations, the classic world got altered and split from the modern world and became its own universe like Dragon ball or Disney's Loki. That's how it works here. Tails in his tailstube literally said stuff about a multiverse and what sonic would be like in each of them. And with both classic and modern doing their own thing means that we won't get ray, mighty or any other classic characters in modern sonic's world.
Its so cool that some companies put this much effort into their games for people who REALLY do everything and go out of their way to find things. The interactions between some of these characters are some you would NEVER see ANYWHERE else, like Wario going from wanting to make Cream pay for a chopper ride to trying to negotiate with people to let Cream do something she wanted to do.
@@brandonwilliams6119 Charmie hasnt been playable since Heroes and from what I see from this video, exists LESS than Cream does in MSTOG20. Last time he voiced in anything was Forces. Last time he was story relevant was Generations. Last time he actually got involved in the plot was Shadow.
Cream: I can't believe i've not been playable in a game for years now, i used to be a main character, the 5th after Mr. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy. Charmy: I have not been playable for even longer. Honey: I've not been playable longer than both of you combined. Sticks: At least you can be playable in anything besides the Olympic Games. Marine: I was never even playable in anything. Gemerl: Same. Metal Knuckles: DOES ANYBODY EVEN REMEMBER I EXIST?
So weird how Cream used to be the 5th main Sonic character in the 2000's, but she barely appear in anything Sonic nowadays. but this side story is really good though, she might not be playable, but it's something at least.
16:58 Oof. Shadow, you'd BETTER do some sightseeing for Maria's sake! I mean what was the point of saving the world for her if you don't even get to experience everything it has to offer? And with your speed, I mean that literally.
Imagine if this was a T.V. show, i feel like these games would really be beautiful and it could really make characters pop out. Especially if Cream's sidequest was a big factor in it. Thanks for the information on this!
No hate to Sonic Prime, but i feel like Sonic should have an animated show that explores a good chunk of his lore and elements like IDW does, not just the basics "sonic, tails, knuckles, amy + whoever is the new 5th main character + shadow appearing sometimes + eggman + 2 robot assistants" (sonic prime, sonic x, sonic boom all used this formula, only difference is that sonic x also added chris) there's so much that can be explored, a lot of older characters like fang, mighty, metal knuckles, honey the cat, marine, etc... could be explored, there's so many locations, in the animated shows they usually only have green hill and angel island, there's so much more, there's hilltop from sonic 2, casino night from sonic 2, mushrom hill from sonic 3 and knuckles, hell, even the master system games have bridge hill and jungle zone, which would be great locations, there's a lot to use, and the animated shows we had until now barely explored it.
Ended up coming across this while in my M&S phase rn and noticed Cream and her yukata in the thumbnail, and this was a pretty awesome video! I definitely never caught Cream's side quest at all while playing, and once I finish story mode on my save I'm definitely starting it over to find it!! Overall I enjoyed your video, from the OST used throughout, to the footage of both the game and what you're talking about, to even some of the extra Japanese culture notes you've talked about! I still love that the story mode for this game had fun trivia in it, and I hardcore agree that there was a huge missed opportunity to have the characters interact more in a setting like the OLYMPICS!
Sadly, this is a bigger W than Cream has ever gotten since Free Riders, of all games. And without the license to more Olympic games, it might be her last.
This was a really interesting watch, full of Japanese culture provided by a really sweet, if a bit too obscure, side quest. I wish I had stumbled upon the Cream sidequest in that game, but the game really pushes you to go for the narrative first; maybe having a hint that there was something to check elsewhere would've helped?
Can I just say looking back, this game (mostly the environments) looks gorgeous! It's clearly using the Hedgehog Engine 2 they made for Forces & just like Metropolis, City & Death Egg, the lighting really makes Hub Worlds & Tokyo Locations pop really well. It was also neat to learn some Japanese stuff, like Kabuki...
I need to play this whole storymode now. You've got Silver and Espio being interested in the religion stuff, Peach being cultured about where to eat, Wario and Waluigi forming 2 halfs of an entire Grunkle Stan between them and Diddy being sassy at them. Nice
Cream like Vanilla the Rabbit is my Favorite Underrated Sonic Character and I was Disappointed Sega were Ignoring Her,Hope and Pray this Kindhearted Rabbit in the Future.
@@AyrtonEdwards-bv4fx The problem is that she was made to be playable in the GBA games and that's it. Unless Sega rereleases the advance games, Sega doesn't know what to do with her????
Very fun video that brings attention to the Cream side story and a lot of the culture regarding some of Tokyo's landmarks. It's really interesting to see how well the locations were recreated in the game when the real-world footage is shown alongside the game, and I learned a lot of interesting facts. Definitely would be nice to see Cream return outside of spinoffs, mobile games, and comics, and it would definitely be nice to have each entry in the Olympic Games series really showcase more of the culture behind each location because, let's face it, no matter where you're from, learning about different cultures, even just a little bit, can be really fun and neat. :P
I remember playing this game and finding Cream and made it my personal journey to find her every chapter which wasn’t easy for those hidden interactions. I really love them, but I didn’t know there was a post-game interaction too! Aw man. It really isn’t a much talked about side quest.
I miss Cream and Cheese being major characters, I hope she returns to the spotlight someday. She's not only my favorite Sonic character, but probably my favorite video game character overall. I love her so much! 🥺 🩷
I remember that building in Digimon Tamers, it's where they fought a Chinese Zodiac Mega Level Digimon. A la, the Chapter 11 Location of Cream and Cheese.
Honestly, this side story should've allowed us to unlock Cream as a playable character. She'd actually be challenging to unlock as opposed to all the other characters just being unlocked as you progress the main story. And maybe it wouldn't have taken most of us nearly four years to discover this!
I loved watching this whole video beginning to end it showcases the many small and beautiful things in Japan whilst seeing Cream and Cheese again and the Nintendo and Sega cast conversate and be fascinated by Japanese culture it's very amazing and I want more side stories like that in video games wether it's set In Real Life world like the Olympic games series or in a fictional world like for example....idk Hollow Knight? But yeah this's was a beautiful video, I wish we can see and play as Cream and Cheese again some day in the future. Take care of yourself Charriii.👍
Never wouldve known about this as i never bought these games, its nice to have some form of cream interaction and MAN do i wish there's more for her later on.
did i really just watch a 24min video of charri having a mental breakdown over where a kid bunny in a video game is while simultaneously giving a tour of japan. yes.
This is why I love seeing Mario and Sonic collab together and I’m glad they have this was a very interesting side story along with it as well. Awesome stuff! ❤️🔥
Honestly I've come to the conclusion I could probably just listen to you talk about any game in great detail at this point XD Nice work as always genuinely interesting
I found this video not only entertaining, but extremely educational. I never knew about the Cream side story before watching this, and there were also a lot of fun facts about Tokyo mixed in! Keep up the good work!
This was really nice to learn about, and it's always great to see more of the mario and sonic characters interacting with each other more and learning more about tokyo, It was a really nice side story that not alot of people knew about
Thank you so so much for this video! Cream gets side-lined so much, and her great moments are usually overlooked, so I'm happy that you've given so much positive attention to her cute little moments! I'll forever be disappointed that Cream wasn't permanently playable at any point during the Olympics (and possibly never will), but I'm happy that they gave her something unique to do and gave her that adorable yukata! I wish there was more to it, and that more people knew about it, but I still appreciate the effort. Fingers crossed that Sega sees how much people care about her and finally make her a main stay again! 🤞🏽
This is really cool! I had absolutely no idea this existed, so this video really taught me something I otherwise wouldn't know about. Charriii, you're awesome. Never forget it.
this is such a cute little story in a game that i personally overlooked. thank u for sharing this!! and for the notes about Japan’s history and culture, i could hear u talk about things like the Tokyo Skytree and Japanese temples for hours
this video is really good dude, you literally told us about places and traditions in Japan that i didint even know existed and i'm suprised cream even had a "secret" story in that game
Thank you for this, ive personally been aware that cream and cheese were in the game ran into her a few times actually, but had no idea when and where to find her and nowhere online helped me out with that and i wasnt gonna comb the game with another playthrough just for cutscenes, so in a weird way this kinda brings me closure on that
Loved this video! Not only is it an obscure part of a game I mostly forgot about but it was also a fun excuse to learn about fun Japan history and culture!
This is a wonderful video, suprisingly heartfelt too! I totallyagreethatthey should've delved a bit deeper into namedropping some things when they had the oppurtunity. I also am in love with "heres an obscure thing in a video game i want more people to know about" type videos, especiqlly when they have this much to say, so I really liked this a lot I hopethis vid does well on your channel, cuz I want more eyes at how nicely you presented your reasearch
18:14 Charriii calls Donkey Kong, Seth Rogen, which is a reference to the fact that Seth played DK in the Mario Movie. I'm pretty sure Charriii might have seen the film.
I’m kind of amazed that so few people knew about this. I found it first time, just because I’m the kind of guy who looks at everything I can find in exploration-based games. Of course, it’s part of why I actually finish so few games, so maybe there’s a lesson there… But yeah, it’s a fun little feature in a fun little game. Not much more to say, really, other than what you covered, of course.
The thing about the Completionist he generally only goes after Trophies/Achievements or other progress bars that are easy to tick off I appreciate what he does but sometimes it leaves me feeling kinda hollow especially when it's a game I Really know
Its funny you made this i was just working on a pitch of a chao garden game with cream as thr main character because shes been absent from the series for so long
Your experience with finding Cream in this game is my experience looking for Defog in Pokemon Pearl. Because of this miss, i only have one pokemon with this move. Skippable stuff man
Cream is my favorite female Sonic character, so this is absolutely amazing. Looking forward to doing this when I finally get around to playing this game.
This was a very interesting video! Really cool side story as well, although it feels weird how difficult it is to actually experience... Reminds me of Luigi in Paper Mario TTYD... Also interesting to hear a bit about the research process! Sonic News Network is usually reliable, as you mentioned, so it's weird that it doesn't say much more than that she can be found sightseeing...
When I was getting my bachelor's in Fine Arts, I took a class showcasing various forms of theatre worldwide. During our time with Japanese theatre, we looked over Kabuki and two other forms whose names I can't remember. One uses masks and very slow and rigid movements. The other is a puppet theatre that has three people operating one puppet. One person controls the arms, one controls the legs, and one operates the head. All three must work in unison, ensuring the puppet moves like an actual person. It was my favorite part of that semester and the one I remember the most from my freshman year. So, seeing that form of theatre have some representation in a Sonic game is pretty cool.
I think it’s really annoying how sega is consistently trying to come up with reasons to exclude cream from modern narratives and games, considering they removed canonical ages of their main sonic characters, and we have Tails and Charmy in most recent games Tails has always been around and is obviously more mature than cream, but Charmy? He’s universally tolerated, not universally liked, tolorate, most people don’t care for him or outright dislike him, but he was in forces, and he’s consistently around Saying cream is ‘too young’ for adventures ‘too weak’ or ‘too immature’ is such a crappy excuse cause again and again and again and again, cream has been in these adventures before, she’s even rescued her mother multiple times across games and comics, she’s also very tough as she’s beat enemies before, and even has a small but very reliable list of boss characters she’s defeated, she even defeated Zina in the idw comics alone, no cheese, while being swarmed by zombies and also fighting off her own friend, gemerl, this also subsequently ‘killed her’ but she still won, Zina was fully defeated and infected and because of her the chaos emerald was returned and the world was saved Cream is tough, she’s a hero, and above all she’s mature, she reveals in the comics and shows in the games that even though situations may seem dire or tragic, she remains happy and stays confident cause if she doesn’t, who will? She tells Whisper face to face that she feels awful in these situations, but she stays happy to try and influence those around her, and THAT makes her (imo) one of the strongest characters in the series, The only real reason cream Cant be in the newer games isn’t lore related, it’s cause sega created too many friends for sonic, and when it was time to cut off loose ends to make the cast smaller she was among many casualties
I love how Cream has a role in the Sonic series that's something similar to Big The Cat. A relatively normal person with a normal background, not necessarily special (although we know she's an utter badass) who gets thrust into adventures by larger circumstances affecting her and her loved ones (Vanilla in Sonic Advance 2, Chocola in Heroes). I don't mind her taking a backseat in the games, she's not a character that has to be there all the time, but especially with the Big fishing minigame in Frontiers, I do hope we see more of Cream and Cheese's perspective again in future mainline titles.
hey charriii5 i was wondering if you would consider making everything wrong with videos about the the legend of zelda games would be really funny and cool ngl
