"Children were not supposed to be there" Then how did they get into the Photo Shoot, get their photo taken, have these pictures looked at and okayed to post.

Implying children were not supposed to be in this is ridiculous. Important context, which I have seen no one talk about: The photos are styled to look like part of the documentary photo series "Toy Stories" which the photographer they hired has done for YEARS. The photos he takes for this series are of children around the world, with their favorite toys laid out around them. When he posted that he had done this shoot for Balenciaga, he originally said that he did this as part of his Toy Stories series. So using children was absolutely planned here. It also adds contextual meaning to the photos: The stuff laid out around them is supposed to be their favorite toys, what they like to play with. In some of these photos that was bondage tape, leashes and stuff like that. How is that not deliberate. Absolutely disgusting and I hope this is investigated.

as someone who works with marketing and advertising , these ads need to go through so many steps of verification before it goes live, so i cannot even begin to understand how this ad made it to the public - there is no frame of reference where someone looks at this and doesn't go ".....wait"

The photographer also referenced a painter via a book on set, who draws naked toddlers in creepy scenes with some shown mutilated. They also found a tweet of the photographer saying "if child porn is prohibited then why aren't guns?" It's really messed up.

What bothers me about this ad campaign is that it went through pre-production, production and post-production. This was evaluated and approved. *How did none of them think a BDSM, p3do-themed, 3pst3in-esque campaign was a horrible idea?!!* 🤦🏾‍♀️

If you didn’t realize, the tape says’ “Baal” not Bal. Purposely misspelling Balenciaga to represent a diety that people sacrifice children to. There’s no way they misspelled that on accident and didn’t catch it before publicizing. They know exactly what they’re doing.

I do photo editing for a company that sells branded clothing for kids. If I saw something like that I would refuse to work on it. Actually it happened once that we had a t-shirt with a swear word written on it (I think it was meant to be lyrics from a song) and we sent that t-shirt back to the manufacturer. I don't understand how so many looked at this before release and thought it was fine

Having worked in a photography studio for a well known UK brand, this would have been planned for months. Every detail would've been planned, the props, lighting, angles and selecting the kids. Then after the shoot, it would've gone through another few weeks of editing, approval and finishing.

The “satanic” drawing is an interesting “Easter egg” as you put it… kids who are abused/experiencing fucked up shit in their lives tend to draw pictures like that… it’s actually very common for a kid who is being abused to use red and black marker/crayon in their drawings… that was incredibly intentional of the photographer/set designer and it doesn’t sit right with me at all

This was a planned out photo shoot. The person(s) responsible for the set deliberately added those things which means time, effort, and thought went into this. These bears are creepy af. No you do not shock people using child abuse. That is how you go bankrupt. I'll also say I've bought higher end expensive clothing before. Outside of the very high cost, a lot of the clothing is fragile. You cannot wear as a daily item for a lot of those things. I kind of felt like some items were meant for a one time appearance type of deal. I've never bought this brand, so I can't speak for them just other brands along the same lines. And no I never bought a hobo looking hoodie that was 1.6k. That's just brain damage right there.

What's fascinating to me is that those photos were supposed to be from a "Holiday" campaign. Doesn't really scream holiday, right?

I always felt icky about high fashion and how weird the concept in itself was. Recent events have confirmed that my gut instinct was right. Balenciaga cannot claim negligence on this issue as it has been found they have hinted similarly disturbing stuff in other shoots long prior to this one. And it’s not like one guy is looking at these shoots, every inch of a fashion shoot is meticulously designed and many peoples eyes are involved. The whole institution is perverse in this case.

I think what kills me the most about this is, if there is any investigation into who is responsible for this ad campaign reaching the light of day, it will all be internal. Balenciaga investigated itself and found it did nothing wrong.

The new photos they put up to replace those ones actually include more references to disturbing images of kids, the books on the table are by an artist that draws some very sick shit . Now i'm leaning towards it's an edgy art project/marketing tactic by some of the Balenciaga directors, because why else would they be so open with these references, but who knows

As a fashion design major I never really liked anything Balenciaga puts out and I never will. I'm more of a Betsy Johnson type of person if I had to pick one designer that I like the most. BTW: Balenciaga is actually a fashion house because it has the main designer designing the garments, shoes, and accessories and there are next level designers who creates the custom fabrics and notions like buttons and zippers. They're a company, but it's the type of parent company that has a designer or a team of designers involved like Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Louis Vuitton and not like fashion brands like Nike, Levi's, or Calvin Klein. Side note: I'm Asexual as well and I'm sick of seeing comments bringing the alphabet mafia into this discussion.
