The Grip Department is responsible for movement and security of the camera. The Grips help with lighting support gear and are responsible for the safety of all gear on set.
Positions discussed in this episode:
Director of Photography: The camera and lighting supervisor on a production, overseeing the work of the camera crew. Also known as the cinematographer.
Key Grip: The head of the grip department. Responsible for overseeing the moving and set-up of cameras, lights, dolly track and other equipment as needed.
Best Boy Grip: Next in command to the key grip. Responsible for maintenance servicing and inventory of all grip equipment and for having on-set all equipment and personnel required by the grip department.
Grip: The crew members responsible for the actual loading and moving of the equipment, setting up the stands to support lights or any other hanging elements, setting up dollies and tracks, cranes, sets, etc.
