My mom was orphaned at 11. Her "counselor" took all her inheritance and skipped town. He never told her about it and when she became an adult she found out about it just to find out he took it right around the time he quit and moved out of town. I can really relate and agree!! I’ve had agonising periods since I was 13 with some being so painful, mothers have told me it sounds like I’m describing similar pain to giving birth. I’ve recently had surgery for stage 4 endometriosis, after going to the ED for over 5 years with random timing and extremely, debilitating pain from 2-5cm in diameter cysts bursting on my ovaries. I was told the only thing would fix it is the pill and I really felt like it would be taking away my autonomy and control of my body, so I accepted my fate. The start of this year I was told I had an 8cm cyst on my right ovary and 4cm on my left. My ovaries were stuck together and behind my uterus from the constant scaring over the years, along with the adhesions, pushing both of them into my lower back. The pain was overwhelming during ovulation and my period could more often than not, be a week event leading up and including the bleeding. When I woke up, my surgeon told me it looked like someone took a hose and sprayed my whole insides with adhesions, my bowel and bladder are attached to my uterus, the cysts had grown 2cms each and I was 1 out of 2 or 3 of the worst she had operated on. I’m now currently nearly finished 3 months of medically induced menopause, which has been hell on top of the already painful last 6 months between waiting for surgery and completing as well as my new found reality reproductively, emotionally.. etc. Periods shouldn’t be that painful and it’s ALWAYS worth the time and tears, you don’t deserve to sit in pain and it isn’t a badge you have to bravely wear. Fight for your health, it’s worth it, don’t ignore it. 💖

Unfortunately in America they don’t always do anything to help you, especially if you are able to have children they just make you continue to suffer. I’ve had horrible periods that have only gotten worse over the years. I have endoedemiosos (not endometriosis) and I have several cysts that burst and come back and every time I ask for ablation or a hysterectomy they refuse. It’s even painful during ovulation. Aside from making more money keeping me sick, they say “you may want kids some day”. I don’t I never have and I’m also way too old at this point. Glad you got help tho. Wish we all could.

i knew i had a good reason to be concerned over me my intensely long and painful period, but unfortunately the doctors said that they dont refer women who are in their 20s to a gyno 😢
