I love that despite hellboy being a b list, or even c level character, he still gets movies around more than some other mainstream ones. I hope this new one captures more the mistery, somber, folklore atmosphere from the comics than the last 2 versions.
@quintonfloyd7862 meh lotta mystical shit with demons in marvel where dc has mostly other dimensional warlords or lords of order and chaos. Sure theres some demons like trigon or etragan but still no mephisto or dormamu or blackheart etc
Absolutely love Richard Corben's art! His work on Swamp Thing, Ghost Rider and Cage are some of my favorites in all of comics. He had an uncanny way to drawing people and horror. Absolute Legend.
@@biddrickbidmen4774Corben is a legend and he influenced alot of poeple and did some pretty innovative things for the medium. The same people that complain about him, complain about Frank Quietly. Hell, even Mignola got shit on about his style before making Hellboy.
None of these people who make the Hellboy movies seem to get the tone of the comics like the animated movies understood. Generally, it should be dark and eerie like a horror movie, but with a main character who's a bit too immortal to worry about it like a human would. He's not invincible, but he can take a lot more than the people around him can, and he can't brute force his way through it, which is where his second best aspect, his knowledge of the supernatural and wits come through. His failures weigh down on him heavily towards the end, and he finds himself pretty much alone in the last half of the volumes, knowing that he is the one thing holding back the apocalypse, every supernatural side story showing the evil he's sparing mankind from. There is occasional levity, but for the most part, it is one guy in the way of an evil end, both savior and cause.
I love the entire Hellboy universe. Got to meet Mike Mignola years ago at a comicon. I'm so happy that there will be another Hellboy movie, because rumor was that there wouldn't be anything else after the last disaster.
He's dressed similarly to a Catholic but he's more likely a Protestant. Perhaps he's better than us all, and he's found all the right answers between both.
Ludwig is more than likely based off of a possessed horse from manga Berserk, though the fandom have dubbed said possessed horse a much more dubious title lol.
I hope Crokked Man does well. Superhero movies these days need to be part of some grander storyline, but you often miss out on the one shots. If the movie succeeds and finds an audience, I expect it will influence quite a bit of superhero movies in the future.
I fear that it will be a huge flop. As a Hellboy fan and especially as a fan of the Crooked Man comic, I wasn't at all convinced by the trailer and the main actors. All in all, it looks like a neatly made, well-intentioned but cheap fan project.
@@knutjunker2019 well look on the bright side I guess. If it ends up being good by Hellboy fan standards. At least we get one last good movie in. I'd take a well made cheap fan project (or fan film) over a big budget mess like Hellboy 2019 was.

Great video to summarize the story. While watching it, it's possible to see many plots that could be the reason THIS was chosen for a movie, like, there's mystery, there's horror, there's a little bit of action, etc
It would be nice if this thing gets through. Something outside Marvel and DC is always refreshing. And maybe it will also open the door for other comics from the indy scene. But we have to keep our fingers crossed. Depending on the people that try to worm into the production it can be hit or miss. The Perlman Hellboys where nice. The Newer version a few years back was ok. Like all three it had its weakspots but also various strengths. At least Mignola will have his fingers in it. That is in my eyes a plus.
An interesting point is that Tom Ferrel is based on the American pulp fiction hero, Silver John. A video about him would be really cool, seeing as how he was the biggest inspiration for Hellboy to begin with.
This is nuts. I clicked on this vid just thinking it was going to be on "The Crooked Man" series. I had no clue they actually made it into movie. When I first read "The Crooked Man" and "The Return of Effie Kolb" I commented saying that this should have been the last movie.
I've read nearly all of the Hellboy stories outside of the BRPD, and this is probably the very best story anyone could have selected to reboot the franchise. It is stand-alone; it is long enough to make a full-length movie, and it is a damned good read. I'm honestly looking forward to it... Provided they bring back Ron Perlman. Seriously, there is NO ONE ELSE I want to see playing Hellboy!
No one can of course replace Ron, but this looks promising especially with Mignola writing. I’ll absolutely give it a chance because I definitely want more HellBoy and the B.P.R.D

I'll always remember the scene with the Crooked Man trying to tempt the priest. They offered him back his youth, his vision, and other temptations. "NO! I come fairly by my years, and all my afflictions! I don't want nothin' else!" Can't wait to see it in the movie!
It’s a good story but idk if it translates into a full movie. I love the idea of a new hellboy movie but maybe a series going through hellboys mini stories instead. From the trailer it looks like a horror movie but also like a fan film. I’ll see it just hope it works out.
This is a brilliant idea! A series of films focusing on story arcs from the comics. It would be awesome if they did this with Conan the Barbarian. The movies could focus on Conan's different careers (Barbarian, Thief, Mercenary, Pirate, Wanderer, Scout, Brigand, King).
Got to love they gotten the actor of Black Tom Cassidy from Deadpool 2 for this possible movie coming for us Hellboy fans, but as I am sadden that the reboot for the 2019 Hellboy had failed thanks to it tanking and that it kinda got screwed by the studio behind more than the cast and crew who were doing the best they could even as i am wanting to watch it myself, I am praying to our creator that it will work by both Mike Mignola watching over it and its development cycle. And the person who played Black Tom Cassidy as Hellboy himself, who I say is a perfect choice among the last two Hellboys themselves in my opinion and Mila Jovovich as Nimue/the Blood Queen
I swear man, Hollywood executives are just as evil as lawyers. They screw the film crews over, and they get all the money while the crew gets blamed. And there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it
Holy crap Ive only seen ornheard of crooked man from the conjuring movies but definitely loved his tiny appearance in the film and thought they were gonna give him is own movie but havent heard about but this story line is way better.
Damn. That must be sucks for the team that did hellboy reboot, that not only it tanked, but the studio also choose to instead continue with the original continuity instead of theirs
The 2019 didn’t do too well because I believe it released the same time as end game. Which was not a good idea, they should have waiting more towards Halloween for the release
All I'm seeing now that the trailer is out is how low budget the film looks, but I have to say they appear to have done an excellent job replicating the comic, even Richard Corbens very unique art style.
Whats kinda jarring in the crooked man comic is that hellboy doesn't really do much, it was focused more on tom. I just hope the movie isnt too much like the comic and gives hellboy time to shine
You do realize melungeons are an actual racial group in the South right it's a tri-racial mixture, like for my dad's side of the family Cherokee Welsh and black similar to being Creole in Louisiana.
Ron Pearlman nailed the attitude of Hellboy for me, however 2019 for me nailed the look of Hellboy. If they could've combined that, I feel it'd been an even bigger hit with people of the franchise, and outside it.
Yes! Rated R. I just hope they take advantage of this in a way that makes it crazier rather than whatever the 2019 version did. I tried rewatching the 2019 version recently and part of the reason it didn't do it for me was they used too much cgi and the story felt too confused and all over the place even though it had a clear through line.
Props to Richard Corbin. IMO his art made this comic miniseries. Wish he did more. Soooo creepy. Remains my favorite Hellboy comic because of Corbin’s art. Great to see it in a video frame by frame. Fantastic!!
Yes and no so many people who like those movies still want him back even though those movies flopped horribly in the box office. And a lot of the people that are comic fans never were a big fan of him because he was nothing like the comic book character of Hellboy and I mean nothing like him. Which is why a lot of the original comic book fans are excited about the new movie because that is more in tune with Hellboy.

The golden army was amazing,, I hate how sometimes actors get to expensive to recruit for a sequel I'm guessing that's y I'll never get to see rocnrolla 2 or 3
I remember when first reading this story, the one picture that I found really scary was the picture of the mutant witches with the glowing eyes down in the mines. They were terrifying.
extremely low budget after the major flop that was 2019, but it can still be good, low budget films can be great, Evil dead for example, on top of the hope, Mike Mignola is attached as writer so even more hope it could be great
So glad it’s going to be rated R I miss rated R movies, seems like everyone makes their movies pg 13 just to get more sales. Because they keep rehashing dumb old IP they need to cast the widest net. Make something good, you don’t have to pander to everyone
This honestly seems like a very easy comic to adapt into a movie. Its a short story with horror and action, you dont need to add a ton of stuff to fill it out. Hope its good
I wish that the upcoming film was animated but in the comic book’s style. It would be a very unique look for animation, kinda like Spiderverse in a way.
