DOOOOOOOON'T watch the sequels! You'll never get the time or brain cells back! Of course they make this movie look like an academy award masterpiece! ... that being said, I loved this movie because I had such high hopes for Brandon Lee I've seen the tralier for the new one and ain't gonna waste my time. For what it was at the time, and how anticipated it was for fans of the comic.... it was good movie. But it was a different time too. Nice job man. I'll come back for more..

Top Dollar (The main character) owned all of those properties being burned. He sent his hoods out to burn down the buildings because they were empty. He'd had people moved out and evicted. His hoods go out once a year and burn down any building he owns that's empty and any business that isn't paying up and then he files insurance claims and collects the insurance money. Eric and Shelly were fighting tenant eviction which stood in his way. He initially sent his goons to scare them off. It went way too far. In the comic, the goons happened by Eric and Shelly stranded on the side of the road due to car failure and the brutality of their death is much more brutal.

there are for sure major differences in the comic and it had in my opinion a different vibe to it. the movie focuses more on the vengeance side of the story where in the comic so you see eric struggle with grief and despression alot and even self blame. the crow is a split part of his mind and the voice of reason that keeps him on track. i have the feeling the new movie will show us more of this side and how his hate slowly transforms him into a monster himself instead of giving us this badass antihero after a few minutes in. the original movie wasnt bad but to me it was the lead actor elevating the whole thing. everything else in it was "ok"

I despise the modern "they didn't explain everything therefore bad" mentality. No, they don't dive into detail about exactly how Eric was resurrected and they don't tell you why it was that specific crow or how he drained Darla of the morphine and rid her of her addiction and all that. We do have to assume Eric got his fighting skills from the crow and whatever force resurrected him and we do have to assume his powers are part of the deal as well. Gremlins, Beetlejuice, Highlander, and Alien Nation all leave a lot of major questions unanswered but they're also classics. That's because we didn't need to learn all the details. Nowadays we want to know everything and if we don't we call it "lazy writing." The internet has poisoned our minds because we mistake our love of fictional worlds and discussing the ins and outs of same on the internet with the necessity for ubiquitous exposition Let me ask you something. Did you like Star Wars more when you learned about the Midichlorians or however you spell that? Or how about when you learned that the immortals in Highlander were from the planet Zeist? Do you think The Wolf Man would have been better with a 20-minute prologue explaining the origins of the curse and why they shift to wolflike creatures and who the first werewolf was, etc.? Do you think the Inspector Gadget movie was better than the cartoon because it showed the origin story? Yes, sometimes you should answer questions. RoboCop would not have been nearly as good had they not shown Murphy's death and resurrection. That's partially because Jesus allegory but still. The Krypton scenes in Superman: The Movie were awesome. But was Batman better because The Joker killed the Waynes? Did we need to know exactly who and why with that plot point or should it have been backstory? Do we need to know what happened to the Parkers or can we just accept that Peter just lives with Aunt May and Uncle Ben? The point is we don't need to explain every little detail. If you pay attention and you're invested in the characters you pick up enough to get by. Because the backstory isn't the point. We're not watching "Eric Draven: The Movie." Just like we weren't here for the exact nature of the Gremlins and we don't need to know every detail of Beetlejuice's backstory or exactly what the Force is and exactly how it functions, we don't need to know the details of why everything is happening. That's not the point. You're missing the point. You're just completely missing the point The rule used to be "Show, don't tell." While there are plenty of exceptions, it mostly does hold true. I hate how everybody now demands that every movie tell them everything rather than trusting them to see it when they're shown
