Osteoporosis is an increasingly common condition with the ageing population. Post-menopausal women are particularly vulnerable to osteoporosis.
In this video I talk about the 7 factors involved in bone health and the role of the microbiome. A healthy microbiome can support bone health but an unhealthy one can aggravate osteoporosis.
I discuss the interplay of specialised Bone-building cells and Bone-removing cells and how the microbiome depending on its health can trigger Bone-building cells or Bone-removing cells.
I also discuss why blood calcium does not tell us anything about osteoporosis.
There is also discussion about the benefit of plant oestrogens on osteoporosis if there is a healthy microbiome.

I was diagnosed with very severe/advanced osteoporosis in January 2023 (spine t-score -4.6, probably already had fractures, we just hadn't found them yet,) at age 61. I have taken a multi-pronged approach to this thing, but improving gut health, which I had no idea was connected to osteoporosis, nor did I know mine was bad--I just guessed after doing some research that it probably was; later tests confirmed it, was top of my list. This year I had a repeat DEXA just to see. My hips improved modesty, about 4%, but my spine improved by 14.6%, and I FEEL like I am getting better. I'm positive absorbing the nutrients I took in had something to do with this. Of course, with all my scores now in the -3 range, I still have severe osteoporosis. I'll never get my lost height back and I will probably always have pain when I put stress on the fractured spots. I don't even know if I can continue to improve, but I'm going to try. Obviously, getting in front of this issue rather than trying to play catch-up is the better route. But I'm still greatly encouraged. I'm young to start drugs, and I bought myself some time. Still, frustrating that no doctor ever, even though I have Hashimotos, and see a doctor every year, told me I might have gut issues. No allopathic doctor to this day has acknowledged my efforts or suggested that poor absorption could have played a part in either accelerating or slowing my osteoporosis. One gets a sense sometimes that they'd just as soon you die than...make their work harder? Somehow, trying to take responsibility for your own health is a burden to them? Whatever.

Other videos suggest you eat prunes which are high in boron. Take vitamin C time released which are good for the bones too.

A functional medical doctor would have tested you for gut dysbiosis first. It is the cause of so many diseases. My DEXA numbers are in the -3 area and I have been doing strength training and a lot of research. I'm sorry you already have fractures.

Excellent. I've watched more videos on osteoporosis than I can count. This is one of the top 2 or 3. Short and to the point, too.

Having been ignored by my doctors (it’s just osteopenia/no HRT prescription, because of the risk of breast cancer, no advise to improve my bone health) I recently ended up with a fracture in my spine. I don’t drink alcohol nor do I smoke, I eat healthy food and exercise on a regular basis. Does constant stress have a negative impact on bone health (via gut health?)?

Are you saying flax phytoestrogen is converted to human estrogen? Asking because I take anastrazole…. Which is supposed to remove estrogen. Is it safe to eat flax? I have read yes… i have read no.

Where can we buy byutarate to take as a tablet.

We might add some psyllium husk to our oatmeal or yoghurt. It is pure fiber and may increase butyrate production in our gut.

If your head is brown you should not put a picture of the exact shade of brown behind your head. You should use blue or any other colour than the colour of your head. Otherwise your head blends into the background. And it is just an insane choice. White is also fine but not brown skin colour.
