I think another advantage with unconsolidated is the amount of wanted list notification you can send out. The other great advantage of consolidating is the speed in which you can UPLOAD parts when parting out sets. You can have an armload of containers of lots and wander around the room with your phone in your other hand directing when to consolidate them. For unconsolidated, you have to add remarks to every new lot - which seems to be a lot more time consuming.

I am in the minority of opinions here (obviously) but I think it needs to be considered that regardless of hassle on a buyers end, I was able to upload 100k parts in a month and sales have doubled and soon to triple since I stopped consolidating. It caters to fast growth and uploading. I would argue it saves time - you only spend more time picking lets say 2 of the same lot AFTER they sold, you are guaranteed to monetize the extra time because it is only spent after the sale. At the end of the day - every seller does what works for them, and what works for me is getting as many parts for sale as possible. Great video (even if I have not finished it yet) :)

One method I use when a drawer fills up is that I put the remainder in a bulk bin inside a bag. Then occasionally I refill the drawer from the bulk bin. If the a buyer buys more than is in the drawer I go to the bulk bin to complete the count. Saves on space and having lots of multiple sized drawers.
@BuildaBrick
@BuildaBrick 2 года назад
Did not even think of doing this, I generally go to the next sized drawer up, if it's bigger than that I give it a second location in the store. Nothing has outgrown 2 locations yet, I only have maybe 2 or 3 products that have multiple locations too.

@@BuildaBrick I've been doing this for years and works very well for me. I have bulk that would use up 20 drawers (or more) so its just not practical for me to do. I guess it depends on your space and the drawers/containers your using. Another indication that we are all different and run our stores very differently from each other.

@@BrickArena Completly agree, it's all about scale, I definately wouldn't want 20 odd products with multiple locations, so this will be definately an idea I keep in mind as I grow - thank you.

Very interesting. I've come across these types of lots before and I always wondered what the point was. It definitely ends up being more of a hassle on the buyer end. I'm so glad I've never encountered anything quite as bad as 100 individual lots for a single element though!

I kept thinking about what your thoughts on the customer experience would be on this topic. Thanks for letting us know.

I think Derek nailed it. Put the work in the beginning to save time in the end. Pulling orders has to be faster when dealing with one lot. Would be interesting to know the lot pulling time with an unsorted store. My store is a low to medium size and my lot pull time is 3 to 4 per minute. Great show enjoy watching you both. Thanks

Im good with consolidating my lots. I have sales all the time but I have some lots I need to just put on huge discounts because they just don't sale. Yeah when you see the same item in that drawer since you opened your store its time to discount .👍great video as always!

I know Chris is a one drawer one lot type of person. What I never learned from him though is how he puts parts away. He always skipped over that part in his videos. I'm sure he had an efficient way of doing it. But who knows.

Ralph, we opened 1st week in May 2021 and have nearly 2000 orders done. We think we have done well but friends of ours opened the year before us, about May as well and then have over 5000 sales so far. We are in Britain - BRIGGSBRICKS UK & BRICKTASTIC UK. Keep up the video, keeps me sane whilst uploading!

As Quigon said in The Phantom Menace.... There's always a bigger fish. Seriously though 2000 orders in a year and a half ... you're doing something right. You working fulltime on this?
@TheTeamBriggs
@TheTeamBriggs 2 года назад
@@RalphsBricks no we only opened in May so we are at 1981 orders in 9 months, we are hoping to hit 2500 by the time we hit the 1 year mark. Only doing it part time at the moment but one day maybe it could be a full time gig. Our friends at BRICKTASTIC UK are on 5364 orders and have been open selling since late May 2020, so again they will be 2 years open in May this year, they will hit 6000 orders easily I think by the time they hit 2 years open. All our lots are consolidated and I agree with you that from a buyers experience,non consolidation is a right pain. I have often found stuff unconsolidated and then left the store when buying in stores. We haven't really started with minifigures yet and have 10's of thousands to list so they will massively increase out lot count when we get on to them. Thanks for your interest Ralph, give us a shout out for people watching in the UK if you can. BRIGGSBRICKS UK - still in 1st year of selling on Bricklink.

I can’t believe people choose to not consolidate lots. For me it was only because I didn’t know how to do it back in the day. Definitely is a bad shopping experience. That leg example wasn’t about one of the worst I have seen. Maybe if they ran the store more efficiently by consolidating lots they would need to hire a contractor lol
@BuildaBrick
@BuildaBrick 2 года назад
Can agree with this, hiring more help is always one way to get more done, but put the right processes in place before you get to that stage. I feel like it would eat away at what profits you could make aswell, it's not like bricklink stores make heaps of $$.

Great talk guys, I remember talking with Ralph after our podcast episode and we touched on this. I can see speed benefits to not consolidating, but that's about it, it wouldn't be a good customer experience seeing heaps of the same piece, it would take longer picking them all, and as a customer you would question why the diff prices. Loved how you touched on all the points but will always consolidate for me.

I really enjoyed watching this video. There would be no way that I could do not consolidate. My mind just doesn't work that way. To me I think it looks very unorganized and would drive me crazy. I don't know why but I always get confused with lots and pieces. Still learning. Right now I have in my drawers the same pieces but different colors. Would the different colors be a lot? Love watching your videos. I keep learning more each day. Thank you 🙂

Brick-Slayer look what you started by not consolidating your USED! Damn you Brick-Slayer!

As a buyer, the multiple prices on the same part/condition without any comments as to why the price is different is so confusing. I actually feel ‘scared’ to even risk buying from them to avoid getting bad parts. Even on the rare occasion when the used condition lot is more expensive than the new condition lot, I question is it as a miss or as a sale or even like I’m a burglar who is stealing from them. So do I let the seller know that they do this?
@RalphsBricks

Let them know that their used is higher priced than new? I'm sure they know.

Great episode! I myself as the sole employee of a mostly used shop. I am currently using unconciliated lots, but pulling orders is very slow. Plus I really don't like how my lots are presented to the customer. Also, if you need a beta tester I would love to volunteer. I would love to see more instructional video's on Brickstore if possible. Thanks Mike

Unconsolidated lots don't make sense for my store. But I can see why someone with a lot of room and heavy turnover and volume would opt for it. Maybe when I have 1M+ pieces, I will have multiple lots per part, but even then there would be some sort of reasoning behind it.
@chunkhunk47
@chunkhunk47 2 года назад
For me..unconsoladated lots means falsified lots in a store.10000 lots but more like 5000...seems lazy to me
@RalphsBricks
@RalphsBricks 2 года назад
I don't think it's lazy, I think it's just a different strategy. With contractors and unconsolidated some of these stores are experiencing rapid growth. Fix the customer experience issue and I think you'll see many more stores adopt this approach potentially.

You guys are missing the point and complaining to much! COME ON MAN...who is going to buy 100 blue legs (ok maybe Derek) but thats discounted bulk. If your store is not consolidated your not about selling bulk you are about selling a lot of orders at a increased price. Consolidated stores you can sell bulk at a cheaper price,
