I was in the audience as this was being recorded. In the summer of 1987, I was living and working in Providence, Rhode Island. The local radio station gave away tickets to the Newport Jazz Festival, if you could identify title and artist of a song they played. The put on the piano classic Carmel by the late Joe Sample (on keyboards here). Well, Joe Sample was one of my late father's favorite performers. Dad used to play Carmel regularly. The winning caller was number 10. I was caller 2, 3, 6 and 10. There are moments in one's life that are simply perfect. This was a perfect moment for me.
‘SWEETER’ version than the Studio. Another FINE Interpretation & Performance. CAN’T get any more SOULFUL than this from a Master ‘Soulfulist.’ THANK YOU MS. Wilson
It was like the guitar was singing a duet with Nancy. It took a while for me to realize why the live song on stage is more pleasant to the ear than the one in the record. First I was focusing on her voice, but after many replay, I started to realize it was Walker's lick. R.I.P. Nancy
