Meanwhile , a local barber in my area just got arrested for selling drugs. Blew my mind. I've been his customer for years. I had no idea he was a barber.🤔
@@Odiology half or Fresno is hispanic/Latino but I see a lot of mix not mainly Hispanic but it doesn’t matter which race has more users it’s bad overall mainly in the central part
You know if he wasn't in this line of work he would sell you your toyota or your insurance plan. Dude isnt fried. Just in a bad situation. Hope he makes it out he has a good amount of logical thinking in this.
In central cali, there aint a lot of job opportunities like in SF or LA. That dude is most likely a junkie himself otherwise he'd be working the fields making an honest living like everyone else in central cali that is working class. Or working retail or at a car shop. Its the same with alcohol, its just as bad as meth in my honest opinion but white people love it so much they put a label on it and say "drink with responsibility or moderation". A bar tender aint no different than the first dude who showed up in this video. They all profit or get a cut from selling drugs that make people hella worst off than they were before and those same vulnerable people keep coming back.
This is what happens when assuming the obvious is politically incorrect. *Dude with massive Adam's apple, stubble and built like a rugby player:* " _It's Ma'am!_ "
The dealer is so articulate and smart with his explanations and analogies. He obviously recognizes the downsides of his job, but as he said he needed the money.
been to jail before and meth users when theyve cleaned up bc theyre locked up are some of the SMARTEST people i've ever met. Sucks they lose all that articulation when they start going on massive benders.
If everyone had the same mentality as him the world would be a better place. We all have to do our part in helping our communities. Even if it's something small like going around picking up trash. Someone else will see that and also feel they should do their part
Yes my baby is gonna be a latina and her baby's gonna be a latina hopefully if the latina gods bless us and keep our latina community full of latinas and locas who are latinad the he'll out lmfao
Liberals are obsessed with race now more than ever before, and wow, is it obnoxious. I would at least drop the fake accent when she says 'Latino' if I were her.
My sister was in meth, we live about an hour away from Fresno. We took her to a rehab in Ensenada and she has been clean for almost 4 years. Help your love ones there is always hope with God. It was not easy but she said she was ready for the rehab and we took her the same day she was release from jail.
Imagine taking something that makes you feel energized, and euphoric day after day, and then suddenly you stop. Real life feels unbearable because your brain is so accustomed to functioning on speed. It does everything it can to compel you to go back to using, including scaring the hell out of you (acute anxiety). That’s what keeps you trapped.
i work with this doctor at the methadone clinic here in fresno, he is amazing everything he does on saturday’s is out of his own pocket and because he has a heart for this. i love dr lasher . i love this video as well , i am so glad i get to work with Dr lasher.
He is amazing but methadone is more worse that heroin. Another excuse to stay on it. Most get their dose n still go get high. I was on heroin crack and methadone since 16. Left ny and cleaned up. 30yrs clean in 2wks
There's nothing "incredible" about helping someone sink deeper into their habit & getting closer to death. He's only giving those people a justification for their habit. That's incredibly stupid. No one gives a person trying to commit suicide a clean gun.
@@krypton7676 I use to be a dopefiend 20yrs ago & needle exchange program helped me when I needed it. Demonizing people with illnesses greater than themselves is wrong. Education & Guidance!
@@krypton7676 Taking the doctor aside, just look at how many needles are exchanged. If that facility wasn't there, those needles would be shared. Imagine the diseases that would spread. I'm not a drug user, hate hard drugs in fact. However, these people are clearly addicts, addicts who'll do whatever it takes to get their fix. The fact that these people acknowledge that they're going to do that regardless, yet render compassionate care to them is something I admire. That's before you even look at the other side of the argument, being the costs of treating the small infections there before they require hospitalization at a much bigger cost. You might not agree with me, and you don't have to, that's totally fine. But I think this Dr. is an amazing man and sees the bigger picture.
"The man", not only stops to talk to her, but takes out the bigass 2 ounce bag on his bicycle...that only has 50$ worth left in the middle of the street!!.. In the daytime!!!.. Dont look nervous....dont look over his shoulder for "po..po.."... Hell, he even have tat on his face for easy facial recognition!!!!..."That Alone"... SPEAKS VOLUMES!!!!
She definitely should have, since the Latino population is affected by it a lot. And, the Latino population is 50% of Fresno. By the way, are you Latino by any chance?
Stop speeding Well in my area its always Whites, my boss hired 2 White boys who were struggling with money. It was going well and then they could not last a minute without liquor or pain killer, one of them start sleeping on the job and one went to steal and losing the job’s equipments.
Stop speeding I’m technically 25% White So I get a pass for bringing this issue within the White culture. No hard feelings just want them to be better people.
I think you guys are looking at this whole fuckin thing wrong. This isn't a "look how bad we have it" video, it's an exploration of how meth affects one minority population.
Is it really race baiting when the population is 50% Hispanic? Or is it possible it’s just an accurate representation of that particular community? Being it’s mostly Hispanic, they’re going to come across mostly Hispanic people. Right? Several small towns in OH are dealing with meth and heroin pandemics too, and there’s barely a non white in sight. There’s enough problems with racism in this country. Let’s not create more where it’s not a factor.
yup, did you hear when he was talking about the laws in fresno. he will only get a fine for that instead of jail. a lot of people smoke and drive because its only a fine.
I'm currently standing in the middle of this story. Lived in Fresno my whole life. It's crazy here. There are vast swaths of this city where it's basically lawless. Unless its a big sting or something, you won't see cops ever. Believe me man... people around here give no fucks
I must say how very impressed and thankful I am to see the doctor and volunteers there helping every Saturday. God bless that doctor,he is what our world needs right now. How remarkable, he was so kind and Un-judge mental of every person no matter what cross they bear. Trying to make sense of our country and there laws and our health care is just impossible.....
My little brother is so far gone on meth that all I can do is pray for him and my little sister is not far behind him. It kills me to see the pain it puts my mother through. Pray for them if you can, Mike and Hallie. thanks
I'm from Fresno and some kid at my school passed out last year because somebody gave him wax laced with meth. He was throwing up then just was out. Whole school was on lock down for three hours while the paramedics came and picked him up.
So sad. I went to college there right when this started to explode. My husband was a causality. We both have the same degree at the same time-ish. I graduated sooner and escaped it. My husband took longer and got caught up in it while still in college.
The point of this is to show how the Latinx community is disproportionately affected in that specific area. They are not saying that it is a problem exclusive to that community, but they are just talking to individuals and experts and using their knowledge and experience to demonstrate how the issue impacts that demographic, in that city specifically. There are plenty of other places where people of other races, including white people, are more disproportionately affected by addiction and there are documentaries to cover the issue from those perspectives. No need to fret, it’s all about bringing more perspectives of an issue to the table so we can all better understand it.
Of course it isn’t solely a Latino problem, but there are issues that compound it for this community specifically. The police officer at the end talked about all the other issues plaguing the Latinx community in Fresno like lack of access to quality education, low self esteem, lack of job opportunities that aren’t seasonal migration field work, immigration insecurity, and the other reasons mentioned like loneliness and isolation bc their family members are in other countries. These are compounding factors that are related to, if not directly tied to, broader issues the Latinx community is facing.
Well I mean if its made in mexico chances are its also used or sold in mexico and anywhere else cheap drugs are popular or welcomed/encouraged. So basically EVERYWHERE
Excuse my George, are you a sad waste of air who should go watch other videos on RU-vid if you are just going to disrespect her efforts to bring much needed awareness to a reality that you will never have to worry about in your life because you are privilaged? Go watch a cat dance or something. Don't disrespect this because it actually has relevance and means a lot to a lot of people.
@@amim2312 if you want to be considered Privileged comment in a way THAT it gives someone the opportunity to assume you are privileged. Like they know you ... And I would really like to know what you consider Privileged. ????
I was shocked when she didn't ask a single one of them, but the "so you used meth" part when she confronted the farmer got me lol you could tell she wanted to ask if he was latino
That Doctor is a hero. Listen carefully to what he says at the end. He volunteers his rest day to go & help addicts for free, and he's been doing it 20 years.
Uh yea they have safe houses where u can shoot up. Dr's are there and they'll test yer drugs to make sure they're not bunk, then u can shoot up and they'll keep an eye on you to make sure you dont die. Awesome. These places do exist, and people like this Dr work there. And yes you can trade old needles for new ones all day long at lots of places. And if you dont KNOW this than you are uniformed. This helps fuel the drug problem in America. If it ain't opioids and pharmaceutical companies, its cartels sending the shit here over our border. This is facts my dude.
He would be more of a hero if he did a few mercy killings, rid these people of their problems. They have 2 options when they're this far gone, jail or death, so why keep stringing them along. They obviously hate themselves and their situation, end it for them. Now that's what a hero would do, give em what they want. I am a recovering addict, I can talk like this lol. If I relapse, I'll be no better than these fools, I'd want someone to put me down. Difference is, I woke up, picked myself up, and I'm here, clean and on my own, I wanted and still want that for myself. So please, if I relapse, be my hero and put me down, because that's all I'll be doing anyway, just slowly.
I'm only replying to you to make one or two points. One: the addicts shown in this documentary are working people. These are the people who pick our food in the fields, and other jobs for U.S. I agree that Meth and related drugs are a huge problem. I know that the streets of West Coast cities are littered with addicts and their problems. These are working people, and they came by their habit through need to work. That's what I saw. Secondly, euthanasia is not legal except in 2 U.S. states. I agree that euthanasia should be an option in medicine. However, no medically-ethical entity worldwide would give consent to help an able-bodied person who is simply an addict die. Yes, you got up & out of addiction, and for that, I give my admiration. You still have an anger issue, though.
It's hard to watch this without getting emotional. Everyone benefits from goods produced by low-cost labor, yet few realize the suffering in these communities. It's a volatile mix. Meth is a catalyst for disaster. God bless these people - they deserve a happy life.
The bus doctor is incredible. Recognizing that it shouldn’t cost thousands of dollars to treat issues that are a result of a poor administrated health crisis is relieving to hear.
Being a Fresno area resident I seen it here and there, was very prominent in 2000s to 2019, seen alot less during covid timeframe of 2020 to 2021 even when having been out and about. I myself never touch that shite, seen it ruin alot of people. Shout out to Dallas! He has helped so many people in Fresno for the better.
You know something's wrong when even the dealer is not happy about selling it! He was respectful in his remarks and quite open to discussion. Props to him, hopefully soon he'll no longer need to do what he's doing. 🙏
I am a recovery opiate user for going on 6 years now and that doctor with the light blue dude rag is Dr. Lasher and let me tell you that was my doctor and that man works up andd down all the valley and he is the Dr. that helped me and would dose me to sobriety with methadone until finally tapering off ever two weeks down to 0 miligrams. I will never forget him and his stories he used to tell me about his crazy biker neighbors he stood up too with a big pole. .and how i used to blab to him about my amazon delivery work days. ah good times. He truly is 1 of a kind. I am super happy that he got this opportunity with VICE network, if anything he is the one and only for this documentary and like i said, hes the main dr. for harm reduction /pain management in this valley CA. THank you Dr. Lasher for what you do everyday and what you did for us all. ❤ When someone really wants to change and get sober it all depends on how bad they really want it.
Not only will they use, a needle exchange makes that safer and exposes them to healthy/positive people and, ofc, a safer way to use. Prohibition has never worked.
Mexico's not sending their best... Drugs, that is. That's why we need to build a wall. Because the good shit comes by air. Plus, think of all the add space. "¡No mames guey!" could be posted on the side of the wall, and "¡Pasenles! on the top of it!
I actually stayed at one of the "halfway house's/rehab's" at Pastor Juan's back in 2016. The places are a lot worse then was shown in the video. From my experiences there the Pastor and his selected crew that he chose's really do prey on the recovering addicts that they come across. I was hoping this place would get shut down by now, but by seeing this video I'm sure you gave Juan exactly what he wanted.
Moved to Fresno four years ago, I'm always in the Northwest part of town and rarely go past Shaw. Would have absolutely no clue this was going on here if this didn't pop up in my recommended. There are some really nice areas of the city and apparently some not so nice ones.
